When I consider the Philippines as a retirement destination it has three things going for it :
1) Language. ( English widely spoken )
2) Visa ( Three years hassle free and then leave for a day and come back and start again.)
3) Recipricol pension agreement meaning UK citizens can receive an annual pension increase. ( Rumoured to be in the region of 10% next year.)
As a bonus it is within easy reach of Thailand.
It's at least worth a visit although I have a feeling I would still prefer Thailand.
Ok have it their way
Hey everyone I just came back from my Thailand holiday !
How did it go ?
It was very expensive
Oh good
Yes and it stank of deleted
great
I was almost killed by faulty electrical wiring
Nice
I had to walk in the road and was almost killed by a drunk driver
Sounds fantastic
And I had a course of rabies injections after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs
But I don't mind because it's a high quality destination for premium tourists.
Indonesia.
That's where they tie you to a post, put a target over your heart and shoot you to death after keeping you in a prison cell for ten years while you beg for mercy.
Probably because the years after the Asian financial crisis and devaluation of the Baht created a powerful narrative that still exists today...Thailand is cheap
And then they realise that was 15 years ago.
I see Korea just announced it's first case of Monkeypox.
It wouldn't surprise me if Thailand eventually finds a case too and freaks out over it .
The media in the UK are currently pushing a Polio fear narrative because they found the live virus in a sewer.
Sorry to hear about your wife,
However, being told about the effects and consequences of Covid infection night and day by every news media on the planet for over two years was more than enough for most of us.
And scrap the Thailand pass, the Covid insurance the early closing times for bars and any other nonsense they are still obsessing about like getting your sixth booster shot.
