  1. What is the true?

The school ( they take care of the extension) of my son goes always to Nong Khai.

It turns out that the immigration officer told the staff of the school, that next time

everybody has to go to his own region,

this means for us living in Mahasarakham that we have to go to Mukdahan.

Is this a change for everybody or only ED visa?

    What about NON O ?

( the best way ( to drive) for us is Korat or Nong Khai

    Greetings

I was in Nong Khai Immigration this week and they gave me a hand out advising where to go for extension of stay in conjunction with the province you live in in the North East region , i will try to attach to this reply

  2. I have a minimum income of 40,000B from my UK pension going into a UK bank account , i am confused about having to proove this income to immigration, do es my income have to be transferred into a Thai bank account or can i get a letter from UK embassy prooving my income in a UK bank account equivalant to the 40,000b , i do have a THai bank account but i use an ATM card from my UK bank to draw money for living expenses, the balance of any money remaining i leave i a UK savings account, i do not have enough savings for the 400, 000 b requied as an alternative way to obtain an O marriage visa, Will be gratefull for anyone to give advice on nnthis

  3. There was a recent topic on sleep clinics - you should search for it and read. I have been in the sleep clinic at Bumrungrad (which is on the 9th floor unless they have moved it) and was not impressed. I suffered from sleep apnea and snoring and sleep paralysis.

I don't think I could have tolerated CPAP.

Then I heard about the Pillar procedure and had it done at Bumrungrad by (sorry, can't give you his name at the moment because that part of B'grad site not working but he is a prof) and have had no problems since. You should read about it on the internet and decide if it is for you. Only problem I had was a dreadful throat infection after it that the prof doctor refused to treat! I got antibiotics from another doctor and it cleared within a few days.

    Cost was 44,000 baht.

Was his name Dr Chairat Neruntarat?

  4. I'm a Registered Polysomnographic (Sleep) Technologist in the United States. I have been practicing Sleep Medicine for nearly 15 years. I am curious as to how effectively sleep apnea and other related disorders are being treated in Thailand. Are there few sleep clinics in your country?

    RPSGT

    Hi

As far as i know there are only 2 sleep clinics , and they are in Bangkok private hospitals , Bumrungrad and the Bangkok hospital , i live in a province in the North East, our province does not have a sleep clinic as such but there are doctors who will treat Apnea , there is a Teaching Doctor from Khon Kaen University who visits the private hospital once a week , but most people dont know they have Apnea , the only ones who are diagnosed seems to be the people who have been on sleeping pills and have problems , then thay seek further investigation , that is my experience as one who has the problem , i only came across the sleep clinic by browsing the Bumrungrad hospital web site , then i investigated it further.

  7. Hi

I said i would go to Nong Khai in person 25/12/07 as i was given a paper stapled in my passport to do that by NK Imm when i did my extension as i do every September when i get my new yearly contract from the Uni, there where about 15 of us went on block from the Uni , some where given these instructions to report to NK in person but some were not given or told anything and it was the senior Lady that saw all of us, one of my freinds i work with didnt get the instructions or paper so last week he went to Mukdahan in person to do his 90 day report and he had no problem or questions from immigration.

I also had a peice of tm47 to report to Bangkok by post as i have always done so Saturday i sent my 90 day report along with a copy of what Nong Khai gave me and the original Bangkok tm47 to Bangkok room 206, it will be interesting to see what happens !.

The lady who is seniou at NK was nitpicking some of our contracts as the contract said we where specialised teachers but the labour office put in our work permits that we where Teachers , and she got realy upset about this and phoned the Uni! will keep you posted when i get a reply from BK

  8. My former girlfriend has become an alcoholic of the worst degree.

She has left her 12 year old daughter alone and because I raised her for 8 years I take care of her right now. But the daughter needs to talk to someone and I have tried to search for some call center for children of alcoholics without success.

The child is desperate and has become more or less suicidal and is in bad need of professional help. Her father is not that interested of the kid and the rest of the family doesn't really understand how serious this is. They have just renounced my former GF and advised the kid to check into a Buddha temple and everything will sort itself out.

Are there any good webpages which explains alcoholism in thai and do anyone know of some call center number?

  9. Id say that there are a lot more Phillipinos working with fake degrees than farangs.

Let her go, it ain't that serious.

If the school value her as a good teacher they should find a way to support her and back her up with the authorities, after all a Degree is only a peice of paper to say you have completed your University course , I have worked with Teachers who had no degree in bilingual schools in Bangkok and they were excellent teachers and good roll models for their students , this was before the clampdown last year.

  10. I was reading, in the Pattaya forum, about the UK government's decision to freeze pensions for expats from the day they leave the UK. I'd been aware of this for some time, and I understand it goes to the ECHR in a month or so. Hopefully, they'll rule in favour of the complainants. It IS, IMO, grossly unfair to freeze payments at the old rate just because someone has chosen to live their dotage out abroad. But ... and here's what I want to get some feedback on ... does anyone have experience of the situation for UK expats who marry Thai women? Does the UK pension go up any to take account of the marriage, even though it has taken place outside the UK? Does the spouse of a UK expat continue to get any kind of pension after the expat has 'popped their cloggs'? I'm not of pensionable age ... yet. 10 years to go.

    Any feedback will be welcome.

    DIG

I am of pensionable age in Feb 2008, yesterday i phoned Pensions UK who confirmed that i would only receive a single persons pension as my wife was not a resident of UK.

  11. How many members are recognised as resident in Thailand

    very few I suspect.

A year by year retirement visa is not a residence permit.

Although I am younger than Mobi and therefore a bit further away from UK state pension ( :o ) I have followed this thread with interest and I think one of the most interesting points is that quoted above re Resident Status. I think this could be a moot legal point because by Thai law we (most) of us are here on an annual basis that is a holiday that lasts twelve months and we are at the mercy of Thai authorities who can withdraw or change the conditions of our stay at any point (and have done!) Therefore by legal definiton we are NON RESIDENT. Now, as a UK citizen with passport and voting rights plus right of abode we also pay tax on any income sourced in the Uk (pensions, investments , business etc) therefore my argument is that by legal definition we must be resident in UK EVEN if we choose to spend our retirement in warmer climes for twelve months of the year.

If these facts were presented by counsel in the European Court I think they would be hard to dispute, it is nothing to do with reciprocal social security payments and more to do with Human Rights as a UK citizen! I would be interested in what othes think of my reasoning.

On a slightly different note any UK ex servicement reading this should be aware that after 1975 any service exceeding two years qualified for a preserved pension payable when you reach 60! however, it has to be claimed they do not contact you!

Funny you should mention uk servicemen serving after 1975 for 2 years or more receiving a preserved service pension, these rules came in to being in April 1975 anyone serving before April 1975 had to serve 22 years man service to get a pension, i am one of the unlucky thousands of serviceman who came out after serving 14 years in the RN who did not qualify for a pension as i came out March 1975 , See www.afpg.info

  12. Are there any Armed forces pension group members belonging to this forum or living in LOS?

If there are can you get in touch with me by PM

    Thanks

First off, tho, are you talking US?  UK?  OZ?  NZ?  FRG?  Where?

As far as the U.S. is concerned, there's quite a few, even VFWs in Pattaya, Bangkok, Korat (altho having problems I hear), Udorn, and one just about organized up in C. Mai.

For the AmLeg, no formal organization but a number of China Post 1 folks around.

Web sites for all via googling.

    Mac

Former U.S. Army, but not retired, at least from the Army

I should have stated UK , thanks for pointing that out to me .

  13. Tourists visited Nong Khai to see Naga fireballs

Many tourists traveled to the northeastern province of Nong Khai this morning (October 26th) to witness the Naga fireballs phenomena. As a result, the traffic around the municipal area of the province was unusually congested.

On the end of the Buddhist Lent Day today, the local Thais believe that a natural phenomenon known as the Naga fireballs would occur in Nong Khai. This legend has drawn in a massive number of tourists from all regions to witness this extraordinary incident. On this occasion, Nong Khai province is organizing the Naga Fireballs festival between October 22nd and 28th this year, and the tourism atmosphere in the province is currently very lively.

This morning, the routes connecting the provinces of Udon Thani and Nong Khai were very congested as tourists were traveling to Nong Khai to see the Naga fireballs. Many food vendors and restaurants along the routes were filled with people.

My wife and i travelled up to see this great event that happens every year, we went Sat 27th and waited from 6pm to 930 pm ,but were dissapointed along with other thousands of people as it didnt happen. The next morning we spoke to some Thais who waited all through the night and nothing happened , maybe he will come tonight!

  18. I Miss understood the 90 day reporting rules and it cost me 6000B. I had a postcard from Immigration to advise i was late in reporting my 90 days and i must pay a fine of 2000B. I had a new visa extension 30th June and thought that would start the date rolling for 90 days reporting , so i sent my 90 day report application to room 206 Bangkok as previous , ie., posted 10 days EMS before the expiry date of 31/8 as that is 90 days from my last new extension. I phoned Immigration in Bangkok and they told me i would have to go in person to pay the fine at Bankok Immigration (I live in Khon Kaen) i didnt want to be any later as they may have put the fine to the maximum of 5000B , so i got a round trip flight to Bangkok , I got to Immigration and they told me to go to room 206 to collect my docs i had sent by post, i noticed by the envelope that my app was received at Immigration 28/8 so i asked why i was being fined as i wasnt late , they showed me the receipt from my last 90 day reporting and the date on there for my next report was 24 June , i had wrongly miscalculated and didnt check the last date of reporting and was told that the 90 day reporting does not start from the date of the last extension visa , so i paid my 2000B fine , i didnt complain, argue or get angry as i was in the wrong i was over 2 months late and they were within there right to fine me 5000B so i got of lightly . If you do get a fine and you live outside Bangkok you have to go to Bangkok to pay the fine , you cant go to your local immigration office.

I made the same mistake a month ago and also had to pay the B2000 fine. Did they stamp your passport saying you were late and piad the fine? They did mine.

    rgds

Yes they stamped my passpot to say i was late reporting and had paid a fine of 2000B

  19. …90 day reporting rules…If you do get a fine and you live outside Bangkok you have to go to Bangkok to pay the fine , you cant go to your local immigration office.

I believe you were called to Bangkok to pay your fine because you had mailed you address report to Bangkok. Surely, if you had made your report at your local office you could have paid your fine there.

    Maestro

I was under the impression that the rule was , "You have to send 90day reporting to Bangkok" Am i wrong?
