  1. I understand that in Bangkok you need a mask when riding bike. I recall many years ago, I had an appointment at a company in Bangkok, and I decided to travel by big bike from Pattaya. I wore a Buff, which I had brought with me from Europe, and I was lucky that just before entering Bangkok I filled up the tank and went into the toilet. My face above the Buff looked like black Pete
  2. Your loss. No, my dignity, which you seem to have lost
  3. I would never consider second hand clothes, even if they were free
  4. My dad turns 96 next week, and has never been vegetarian or exercised. He takes 2 medications, 1 for his cholesterol and I think one for blood pressure. I have a good friend who is a doctor, and last time he visited him he said he couldn't believe his eyes, as most people of my dad's age have a cabinet full of medications. My dad is in an elderly home now, because my mom died last year at the age of 92, and at his age he shouldn't be alone at home. I can tell you now, however my dad is obviously very healthy, I never want to end up like him.
  5. Noted that you asked that question to someone else, so see no point in answering it, and in fact I couldn't care less what my bmi is. I feel good in my body, haven't seen a doctor for decades, other than for a dirty one
  6. Your comments about the fruit shows that you're taking it to the extreme. Higher up in this thread was mentioned that fruit is good for your health, now you even have to watch out which fruits. I eat and drink what I like. Haven't exercised for years, and had my blood sugar checked a few months ago, with the result shown it was fine. My point is that as long as you consume everything in moderation, you will be fine. If you have to start with this fruit I can eat, but not that one, then you're making yourself a slave of your own life.
  7. You mean the sportsmen, who obviously led the most healthy life, who dropped dead long before they reached 60?
  8. Life is too short to have rules what you can like and what not. I don't believe that one can prevent to get sick by choosing the right foods. People I know, who had a healthy lifestyle, have died from cancer, others get hit by a car
  9. I have never seen a checkpoint in any Big C or Lotus. Also every Makro I have visited, and that is quite a few, in the past 5 years or even more, has done away with the parking fee. I have to say, I never visited any of those shops in Bangkok, so maybe they have a reason for it in that area. If the reason is that they want to check on their cashiers, they simply could install a cctv above each check out, as they do in my home country. But no, they just want to humiliate the customer by treating him as a suspect
  10. The difference here is that you worked in a high end grocery store (read premium prices), while Makro is a low end cash and carry
  11. I am not married, neither do I have a Thai insurance. The allowances you mention are for a select few people. I don't pay any other tax than withholding tax on my interests in Thailand, and from nothing you can't reduce nothing.
  12. I guess you are joking. Why would I want to lose tens of Thousands of baht to send back to Europe, and get 0.3%?
  13. I'm all ears. Please note, I'm on retirement visa, so no work income
  14. If the court decides his tenure ends on August 24, I will eat my shoe. By the way, if he is forced to resign, who will follow him up for the rest of the term? I think it will be watchman, and I very much doubt that is an improvement.
  15. I didn't close the account yet, as I don't know where to place the money. What they did is backdate the withholding tax from the first 5 months when they didn't deduct, and deduct it all in one go from the July interest. I have Kasikorn, SCB and UOB accounts , and they also deduct the tax, so that is no alternative. Had Bangkok bank before, and they also said they couldn't do, although that was a term deposit, so I may check them out again in a different branch Don't think there is much I can do other than learn to live with it, after all, legally the maximum refund you can get in 1 year is 3000 baht. Every account I have will earn more than 20K interest. I have such a feeling that the revenue department has discovered that I have too many accounts, and informed the banks that they have to deduct, to prevent the farang gets a windfall when every bank doesn't tax the first 20K interest.
  16. Just found this listing on Lazada. In fact it is actually available from at least 8 different sellers at the same price, and it raises no flags in the Lazada system. Or maybe they endorse it???????? https://www.lazada.co.th/products/wowww-dahua-8-2-dh-xvr4108hs-i1-dahua-hdcvi-hac-b2a218-hdd2tb1-wifi-i4002062082-s15534405545.html?
  17. I've always been told that the exemption of the 15% withholding tax, is limited to the first 20.000 baht of received interest, cumulated over all accounts held with all banks. Though I guess there must be a flaw in the system. Surprise?? I have a personal tax ID, but only Krungsri bank seems to be able to play by the book, and does not deduct the tax on the first 20.000 baht of interest. So for 2021 I reached that limit in November, and so Krungsri did not deduct tax for the first 10 months, but did deduct once the limit was reached. In the meantime I had moved some money to an SCB account, which not seem to be able to apply that automatic exemption, and have all kind of excuses for it. So by the end of the year 2021, SCB had charged me a total of 2100 baht withholding tax, for which they provided the documents needed for the revenue office. The revenue office just sent me the cheque for the 2100 baht withholding tax deducted by SCB. To me, it seems that the revenue office is either not aware of the withholding tax, which was not deducted by Krungsri, or the 20.000 baht of interest applies per bank. Any comments?
