  1. Thanks for the comment.???? The fridge / freezer is 7 days old and has an Inverter Compressor so hopefully that will help reduce the electric running costs . I was wondering about replacing all the lightning in side the house ( now using normal tungsten filament ) with LED . The powering the house with Solar Power , sounds very interesting. .
  2. Due to the rising cost of domestic electricity in Thailand I would now like to try and understand more and if possible reduce my home electricity usage. I know that my current electricity monthly costs may not seem very large . My home is fairly small and only inhabited by my self and wife , but any decrease in the electricity running costs would be some thing that I would appreciate. These below are electric items I currently have installed in and around my house. 1. LG smart TV 2. Electric shower unit 3. Combined fridge / Freezer ( Cooling digital inverter compressor ) 4. Top loading washing machine ( no electric heating elements ) 5. 5 floor standing electric fans ( intermittent use ) 6. 1 Air conditioner unit ( Inverter – 18,000 BTU ) 7. Microwave ( with internal electric grill ) 8. 1 Electric kettle 9. Assorted house internal lighting 10. Assorted exterior house flood lighting ( LED ) 11. Assorted small electric / electronic equipment ( computer / router / security cameras etc ). The one air conditioning unit is only used for a short time before going to sleep and does not run all night or during the day time. I have looked at the residential electric unit costs web sites. https://www.mea.or.th/en/profile/109/111 https://www.pea.co.th/Portals/1/demand_response/Electricity Tariffs Nov61.pdf?ver=2018-11-21-145427-433 This is a screen shot of my current electricity bill . I have also ordered one of these ( hoping that it may help me to understand my home electric consumption better ) Any advice , suggestions or comments that may help me better understand and possibly reduce the current house electricity usage costs , would be most appreciated. Thanks. .
  3. First a big thank you to every one for your comments and suggestions , they were just what I was looking for. The reason I never brought up my wife’s thoughts on this planned holiday trip is due to the fact that I want to surprise her , when Ive completed my research I will of course talk to her and get her opinion on the proposed destination. Just looking through some of the comments ……. Japan I'm sure your wife would like Japan Went to Japan it was just one big shopping trip Japan – Awesome Japan – bland Japan is a yawn Japan could be very tiring. I would hit Japan first. Easy to get around and plenty to see Japan is fantastic! Very bland Without doubt. The best from the proposed list Totally different to Thailand. everything was an adventure. Tokoyo is amazing. Vietnam I would take her to Vietnam You won't go wrong with Vietnam Hong Kong Hong Kong is expensive Hong Kong - okay for a few days Hong Kong hectic city state. like spending a week in a shopping mall Singapore Singapore - boring after 2 days Singapore is clean with great food and Thais love it. Singapore would be easiest and good for two weeks Hate Singapore, zero character, totally plastic Good for 4 days, wouldn't recommend longer as it's a tiny country. Malaysia Malaysia - my least favorite country on earth Penang is a good outing, but again only for a day or two. China China - fascinating but difficult and unfriendly Vietnam I would second Vietnam as an interesting place to visit Turkey she loved it. Again Thanks to every one , its appreciated , any further comments or suggestions most welcome. .
  4. I’m not sure if this is the correct place to ask my question . I have never so far taken my Thai wife of 19 years on holiday any where . I would now like to change that . I am a retired 73 year old British citizen permanently residing in Thailand with my Thai wife . In the past before I retired to Thailand I spent the majority of my life constantly working so I never got the chance to travel abroad that much . So I’m thinking of a holiday duration of around 10 / 14 days , preferably some where we have to fly , but not in Thailand ( the wife's never been on an airplane ) . Both myself and my Thai wife are not really interested in things like sports , trekking or night clubbing ,skiing or laying on a beach . I am still active and can walk reasonable distances . As this holiday idea is still in the early planning stage I have no real time scale and the holiday time frame ( month ) could be decided to suite the chosen destination . Of course the Tourist Visa situation to enter a holiday destination / country may play an important part. Personally I’m wondering about the following possible holiday destinations ..... Japan Singapore Malaysia China Hong Kong I know its a ‘’ how long is a piece of string’’ type of question , So have you taken your wife / girlfriend / partner on holiday other than some where in Thailand , and if so where did you go to and how would you rate that experience . Any thoughts, suggestions or advice on a possible holiday destination to take my Thai wife to , would be most welcome. Thanks in advance ,
