  1. CRS reports on aggregated transactions. My statements in the other thread aren't assumption or opinion. Predatory 'expat' tax agencies are spreading falsehoods by stating that due to Thailand joining the CRS in 2020, individual foreign ATM transactions and foreign credit card transactions are now reportable - this is false. Read the CRS regulations, it's clear.
  2. Many overseas banks can accept, "have not yet been provided a TIN" as a reason, in lieu of a TIN. I can see in your cases this may not have been possible. Failing that, they will accept any 13 digit number as a TIN. It's a tick box exercise for the banks, don't overthink or think there is some kind of cross referencing or checking going on in these cases , there isn't. Before anyone mentions the CRS, this doesn't apply at the granular transaction level and is irrelevant to these scenarios, where the banks are simply fulfilling their requirement to determine your residency.
  3. i.e. the status quo that has existed for many many years, and nothing has changed.
  4. Just give NAB a 13 digit number, they will never ask again, nothing will happen.
  5. Isn't this guy one foot in the grave already? Weekend at Bernie's?
  6. Yes. It is possible to get a 5 year multiple entry visa based on a single dental appointment. Times have changed.
  7. Key point 1- yes. Tax in TH is a complete honor system. Key point 2- there is no link or info sharing between TRD and Immigration. Exception is, if you work in Thailand on a Non B Visa. Key point 3 - if you didn't file a return last year, don't this year. Nothing has changed, unless the authorities directly let you know it has.
  8. No actually. Nothing more to it than that. People's experience of visa rules in Thailand is valid, but doesn't mean that experience is reality today. Things have changed a lot and it's open season right now.
  9. Yes it is right and it is happening. 5 year validity DTVs are being issued daily for 3 "purposes" 1- Workcation with the purpose proof required being remote work evidence or a "freelance" portfolio. 2- Soft Power, which is a term used for thai tourism specialities, which include but not limited to Muay Thai, Thai cooking classes, medical appointments, music festivals. Purpose proof required evidence of booking. 3- Dependants of the above This is the real deal and the biggest change in visas in decades. The current regime is opening things up, and yes it could change, but anyone who wants one of these can get one now and enjoy 5 years of low cost and hassle free visits or long term stay in Thailand.
  10. Have seen on other forums a single doctors appointment has been accepted as proof, multiple DTV's issued for this purpose already There are no specific requirements, bearing in mind each embassy may vary.
  11. Ah, I think you'll find the changes will actually make it easier, along the same line of the DTV being launched. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised. No harm in waiting until the changes are released though, before comparing them to the DTV. Not a bad plan at all.
  12. No. Leaving and re entering gives you 180 day stamp and MFA official specifically stated DTV "purpose" will not be checked by immigration on entry. The visa is valid, why would they check. An extension is only required if you want to stay more than 180 days consecutively. In the case of an extension you need to go to local immigration pay 1900 THB and provide documents as yet undefined, that may or may not include proof of "purpose" which can be one of 3 categories - workcation, soft power or dependent.
  13. Yes, well stated. But remember once you have the visa, IOs will not check on entry, only on extensions, which aren't required if you leave / re enter every 6 months.
  14. It wouldn't even need to be that. You could sign up for a 2 day cooking course. There's no requirement for it to be for a certain duration or ongoing over the visa period. Some embassies are making up rules on this, but just think of "soft power" as "certain thai 'tourist' activities with a document".
  15. Not that it looks hard to get, for just about anyone, on their own, but consider: Once the agents familiarise themselves with the process, I expect we'll see "guaranteed approval or your money back" DTVs issued, en masse. Additional fee sure, but convenient.
  16. Apart from the statements by MFA confirming there'll be nothing visa related for the DTV checked on entry , I guess we'll all have to wait and see. The purpose of these current visa launches and the relaxations coming later in the year and next year, are to make it easier to stay longer in Thailand , for more people. Not to make it harder.
  17. It will make absolutely no difference once the visa is granted. When you have it, it'll be a 180 day stamp on entry no questions asked, regardless of the purpose being workcation, soft power or dependent. The only time the purpose will be evaluated is on application, and possibly extension. Not on entry.
  18. Good advice. Do whatever you did last year- which for 99.9% of readers is nothing, regarding tax in Thailand.
  19. I respect where you are coming from with your views but disagree. Based on the intent, rules and MFA director statements, DTV is specifically designed to be easy, attract term visitors, even those settling here "semi permanently". IMO anyone with an approved DTV will generally have no problems with IOs. They'll simply be stamped in for 180 days each time they enter, they're on a valid visa to do that, as many times as they like during the 5 year validity period. Re the interval required, it's 1 day and the MFA official addresses that. So if you exit Thailand on day 180 you can re enter on day 181. On that re entry you get another 180 day stay stamp. You can't do a same day bounce.
  20. The DTV has been approved to people already on the basis of a single hospital appointment. Based on what the MFA official stated, proof ( either workcation or soft power, or dependent ) will not be required by immigration on entry to Thailand because the visa has already been granted. It is clear. Proof may be required at extension time, but if this is an issue for anyone, extensions can be avoided via a bounce.
  21. Fair comment. Assuming in country immigration will require the proof, either book a new appointment / class every 6 months prior to extension, or simply don't extend- instead leave and re - enter every 6 months. Either way - for many ( not saying all) this looks an easier alternative to what they currently do.
  22. + the opportunity cost of the 800k invested at 5% = 40K per year + the time / stress of yearly extension process even via an agent + having to do it every year with no guarantees Vs 5 years nothing required.... Not really a fair fight for anyone who plans to leave the country once a year, is it.
  23. No age limit. This same official clarified in a different podcast. You can simply show the financial proof, a doctors appointment or cooking class, get the DTV approved, exit the country, re enter, and then proceed to forget about your yearly marriage / retirement paperwork for 5 years.
  24. Wasn't in doubt for many who read the requirements as written. Also, the official clarifies an extension will cost the normal 1900 THB NOT the 10000 THB misinformed figure that many are spouting. This visa will be the most popular Thailand has issued in a long time. While unintended, it also tempt many who already reside here on other visas to switch, due to the ease vs their yearly mountain of paperwork.
