Would you prefer they checked everyone then?

It's more like they do their job when someone / something has been flagged from earlier pre-checks (that you don't see).  Much like in virtually any other country. Myanmar was the only place I've been to where they insisted on checking everyone and it was a nightmare.

I guess What i'm trying to say is that it depends on their mood. Sometimes they WILL check everyone for 30 minutes and then stop for 5 hours. So I'm not saying they should or should not check everyone but instead letting you know how the system works in Thailand. By the way, every country is indeed different. Australia for instance will check your bag for all food products just about all the time. And then of course, while checking for food, if there's something else, then....

  2. Try the med's and if it doesnt work, then you could explore other options.

Acupuncture, Physiotherapy, maybe even a thai massage that knows a bit about stretching and injuries?

Hopefully by this time you've already done the RICE protocol and you feel alot better. If you don't, i frequent a place for therapy and will be happy to share the name if needed.

True, but make sure they are from a physical agency. The link will be in their profile. Seems like just anyone can call themselves an agent and get a commission from the landlord. They will want an agency with a real office so they can be around to negotiate about deposit returns and also make sure the owner who is getting your two months deposit is legit and not just someone subletting who is going to disappear with your money.

True - but that can easily be verified once they say they are from some agency, give that agency lanline a call to cross check their names.

  4. Then this is the place that should be able to solve the issues for you - Bangkok Physiotherapy Center. I've had great success with my back pain working with Bangkok Physiotherapy Center on Sukhumvit 39. I went to them for 6-7 sessions, and I've been happy with the results.  Pain gone down, learnt different ways to manage the pain post the treatments. Not sure if it makes any difference but I worked with Ploi and New.

  5. Yes, doctors suggest this when they realize that the patient cannot afford the surgery at the larger hospitals. They do not 'expect' any gifts, but will happily take the gifts. At the end of the day, the doctor is doing his/her ethical part of wanting to treat the patient, even if it means they get paid less to do it. Becoming a doctor at the end of the day means that you want your patients to recover and while it is a job and you want to be paid well, you do realize that recovery is a huge part of your success. And that is why I think doctors do this.

to be fair... If I’m so knackered that I’m capable of taking a nap in the car (in a lay-by or car park), I should not be driving at all or anywhere near the open road !!!...

But... on a long journey... a coffee can add a little ‘pep-me-up’... as does a stopping off for 15 mins etc..

Agreed that taking a nap is the best, but there are certain days/times that there wasnt time for one, hence the coffee...

Yes I doubt any insurance would pay for this anyway.

As terrible as this may sound, there are ways around insurance depending on what insurance you have. You'd have to speak to a good agent to be able to assist you with this. On another note, as I mentioned above, look into Chula options, it may be within your budget for surgery. And/or, non surgical methods, e.g. physiotherapy or the likes.

Use Facebook Groups. The agents list on there. The units have to be manually updated so you know the recent ones are available. You don’t search, it just gets bumped up as it’s listed.

Bangkok Expats would be a good start. Usually there are plenty of agents trolling that group that will activate themselves and PM you!

Sadly no...   I brew my own coffee.

    - At home with my own espresso machine.

    - When travelling with a Picopresso (hand pump espresso machine)

    - Or at work (Picopresso / French Press / Turkish coffee pot) - depends on how much time I have and what I want.

I have a few different coffee’s but nothing that would offer worldly choice.

I usually order from CoffeeCultureAsia - they have a decent selection, decent pricing and also offer taster sets (I usually go through about a KG per month).

I don’t really recall being in a cafe in Bangkok thinking wow, that was an amazing coffee.

Neither do I recall thinking, urgh... that was terrible.

When out on the road, a long drive etc and I want a hit - I’d get a double espresso from Amazon coffee etc.. its usually pretty poor so I’ll add sugar and milk to ‘de-taste’ it and take out the bitterness.

There - health benefits of coffee - staying alert on the road !!!

Great health benefit - staying alert on the road! Avoiding accidents and saving lives! ????

    Thank you for your reply.

Not in Thailand at the moment, but I live full time in Bangkok for the past 10 years,

True, getting a surgery will probably cost a fortune without insurance, but I'd look into options of physiotherapy as well. I've had great success with my back pain working with Bangkok Physiotherapy Center on Sukhumvit 39. I went to them for 7 sessions I think it was, and I was quite happy with the results.  Less pain, learnt different things I could do to manage the pain and also prevent the pain. Give them a shot before going through surgery. Also had a friend go in for knee pain with good results too, so they seem consistent. Surgery is truly opening up a can of worms and you don't know what you could get yourself into.

If you still insist on surgery, try looking at Chula Hospital. The prices would be 1/3 to 1/4 of those at Samitivej/BNH/Bumrungrad and most of the doctors that come to Chula also service those major 3 hospitals. Don't expect a 5 star hospital, but again, you aren't paying a 5 star price for it. What you will get is an honest answer of whether surgery is needed or not, and if so, expect to pay a lot less for it (you may have to wait longer for a surgery though).
