According to joint polls published by CNN and the SSRS Institute: A majority of Americans support stricter gun control law; and 64% of Americans support stricter gun control laws, while 36% oppose it.

You are breaking the rules of this forum by quoting a pseudo-scientific, conspiracy theory source.

Shame about everyone who gets killed while the insurrectionists wait for the government to become totalitarian.

It is indeed a shame. But the proper comparison is not between those people who were killed while waiting for the government to become totalitarian and the few who might have been killed if guns were not available. The correct comparison is between the relatively few who have been killed while waiting for the government to become totalitarian, and the tens of millions who would be killed should the government become totalitarian. Just look at what happened to the unarmed Russians, and the Chinese, and the Cambodians, etc.

If you look at the top restaurants, and then taste their food - it doesn't add up.

    Anyone else experience this?

Are they now faking their scores there too?

Yes, I have noticed this too. I suspect that there are a lot of paid reviews there. I would even go so far as to say that there are probably companies (probably in India) that contact restaurants on TripAdvisor and offer to praise them in exchange for a fee.

One way to increase your odds of getting a fair review is to just ignore the review of any person who only has one or two reviews on TripAdvisor. TripAdivsor shows the total number of reviews that every reviewer has made (I myself have done something like 50 reviews, for example, thereby increasing my credibility, I think), and if it's only one - and that one is just for that one restaurant - then it is unlikely that it is genuine.

I also ignore the reviews of all Indians - as they appear to be the ones being paid to do the reviews, as mentioned above.

And finally, I also ignore the reviews of anyone who praises the staff of the restaurant (waiters, cooks, etc.) by name. How many of the cooks in the restaurants that you eat in are you on a first name basis with? Unless it's a pretty waitress, I don't bother asking their name.

  4. I just had a look at the Zenni website, and they have a way for you to measure your pupillary distance (PD) directly on their website. You hold a standard-sized credit card up to your forehead (showing the back side of the card, not the side with the data. It just needs the size of a standard object for comparison purposes) and the website's measuring tool compares the distance between your pupils to the known size of the credit card. It then makes the calculation for you. My PD is 64.5mm.

I also intend to order these glasses with the progressive lenses from Zenni. (I had gotten the expensive Essilor ones from a Thai optician about 10 years ago, and they didn't work for me. So this time I'll try with the cheap ones, and if they don't work, I won't be out so much money.)

But I have a question: Can I just go into any optician and ask them to test my eyes for a prescription for glasses that I will buy somewhere else? I expect to have to pay for the prescription, but will they do it for me if I intend to buy the glasses elsewhere?

Old is good. Greater wisdom, maturity and less testosterone fueled decisions. Noem Chomskey and RBG being classic examples.

How convenient (by which I mean ridiculous) that you consider the stated shortcoming of your preferred candidate (the senile, totally corrupt Joe Biden) to actually be a strength. And that you quote as an example of your point Noam Chomsky, friend of Jeffrey Epstein.

    Have you ever been there?

Yes I have, but not recently. Why? Do you think it is some kind of paradise?

If you ask the people in China if they approve of their government, they will of course say yes - because they have no choice. But there aren't many of them who would not leave on the next flight out if they could - and if they had somewhere to go.

  7. I buy the 18.9 liter bottles of plain drinking water from Sprinkle, then I add four bottles of Singha soda water to it, or sometimes one big bottle of San Pellegrino. I just find the water more palatable when there is some soda water in it. I hope that there are also some health benefits.

I recently saw a video saying that drinking carbonated water is unhealthy. I was skeptical about that, but I was glad to see the above-linked video that says it's healthy. Thanks for sharing it, Dario!

  8. I transferred money from abroad into my Thai bank account for the purpose of buying a condo. The person I intended to buy the condo from changed his mind about selling it, so I withdrew my money from the bank and used it to buy gold. If I find another condo that I would like to buy, can I sell the gold and deposit the proceeds into my bank account and use that money to buy the condo? And if that is doable, is there a time limit for buying a condo with that money? Or, does a condo need to be purchased with money that has never left the account?
