Strategicly, having Greenland as a State or territory is a must for the USA's safety as a nation. The Greenlanders, who are not native to the island have been exploited by the Danes for years. Imagine: Greenland becomes a US state, with a constitution and government like any US state. Greenlanders form a corporation,(like Arctic Slope or any of the ANLCA corporations) that owns all the mineral rights in the country. In addition, the US Government makes a payment to Greenland which is used to establish a sovereign wealth fund that pays dividends to all Greenlanders. We get Greenland, our companies get the resources, the Greenlanders become 59,000 Elon Musks and there are gonna be all sorts of jobs and developmement. Bet the Greenlanders wouldnt say no to a billion dollars plus each.
