  1. Not sure if can be done now but used to be quite common and also done by mistake. Remember the TM.6 arrival cards? The immigration officer didnt look through the passport and you didnt have to say anything to them. It all worked on the details that were entered on the TM6 arrival card, the immigration officer worked from that . If there was no visa number entered in the TM6 the IO would issue a 30 day visa exempt. If theres a visa number on the TM6, then and only then, the officer would search through the passport to find it and process the length of stay as required by the visa. If you wanted to save the visa for later you left the visa number off the TM6. The mistakes happened when people had a tourist visa but didnt enter the visa number on the TM6 and found out they were stamped in for 30 days instead of the expected 60 days.
  2. Good to know the OP got through with no problems. Interesting to know that even the UK visa site only ADVISES to print a copy. Its not a requirement, not mandatory, not a rule, not an instruction, its advice. Also I have found a printed paper copy of the visa is required when applying for a 30 day extension to the 60 day tourist visa. Thats when the immigration offices in Thailand work more with actual paper.
  3. No not essential to have it printed. Flew into Thailand last month without a TV from London, it had been applied for but it hadnt arrived before the flight. Told the airline (SIA) the visa would hopefully be there when I landed but if not I would enter 30 days visa exempt. As I landed the approved visa was in the inbox and I only had to show the email on the ipad to the IO. I believe the visa when agreed is on a central database and all the IO needed was a number from the email to bring up the details.
