Do you have to pay for the book downloads or are you getting them for free? For now, I'm just using my netbook and reading downloads off a variety of sources. I've considered a Kindle, but don't want to pay to read the books....cheap charlie!
If you set up an account with Amazon you can get plenty of books for nothing or for a dollar or two. Other sites, as noted above, offer loads of free stuff.
I know that means actually paying for books but for me I have gotten some real classics which I would pay big bucks for in a bookshop for next to nothing.
Plus, as you have pointed out, you can download to your computer without having to buy a Kindle if you don't mind looking at a bright screen for hours at a time.

Well done gennisis.
I've got the older model but am still pretty happy with it. I've already got about 150 volumes on it, many of which cost nothing or next-to-nothing.
I agree that the leather case is a bit pricey but the one I've got is very well made and will last for years.
I hope you enjoy your kindle as much as I have enjoyed mine.

Deejah if you pm me I can give you the details of a British mate who really knows his stuff and has helped me and friends, for a pretty reasonable fee, on numerous occasions.

^The bran may not be great for you but rice bran oil is really good for you by all accounts.

You could try: www.aussiesmallgoods.com

If nothing else, this man has certainly stirred up plenty of debate and speculation. Maybe this is his intent.
Perhaps the farang community needs more eccentric types like Glitterman to make life more interesting.

I had a couple the other week.
Got stuck in my throat and I had a stiff neck for a few days!

An encouraging step for sure.
However, with corruption so entrenched in Thailand, particularly in Phuket and particularly throughout the entire police force structure, I am a little sceptical.
I certainly hope it leads to some improvement though.

You just have to laugh don't you, seeing as this thread is on the same forum:

I used to buy Bertolli 'extra virgin' olive in Australia but now only buy certified Australian extra virgin. I have seen some limited brands on sale in some Thai supermarkets.
There are several brands but there is a certification label (triangular) on the bottle which will tell you if it has been independently tested.
Lovely, fruity, clean tasting oil. I even have a nip from the bottle occasionally before having a few beers.
I'll never go back to the phony European bilge.

Apples for cider wont grow in Thailand, you would have to import them in, with the duties an expensive exerciseI often wondered whether it could be a gold mine to buy a few fields plant some cider apple trees and make the stuff in Thailand.
Is it not possible to use Thai apples to make a decent cider or are there only certain ones you can use?

Thai food is "ok". Nutritional value has to be watched carefully. Typical Thai diet does not have an adequate carbohydrate level ...
What about the carbs from vegetables and fruit?

Wait a few years more. The tech is relatively new and this country is seen (excsue the pun) as having a large volume of airborne irritants (ask yourself - can you smell stuff in the air? and I don't mean flowers!). An expert (the guy that invented the tech) stopped me from doing this about 10 years ago, so now maybe its ok now, but its a conveyor belt service selling health care services, and once you have shaved the cornea there is a lack of surface volume integrity in the event of a future eye infecetion. Red eye infecetions were very common here 10+ years ago.
Live with it, wear glasses, that's what I did.
Maybe, but I haven't worn glasses for reading for about four years and am loving it.
I went to a place in Bangkok and had Lasik surgery for 44 thousand baht.
I agree with a poster above (elation) who said it was one of the best things he'd ever done for himself.

I have visited Kinokuniya Bookshop at the Emporium in Bangkok. To me, by far, the best bookshop in Thailand.
I have not ordered books from them but I hear they do this.
You may want to check this site: http://bookweb.kinokuniya.co.jp/indexohb.cgi?AREA=07.
Be nice to know how you get on.

Are you on Optus mate? If so, I have had the same problem ringing from a mobile from Melbourne.

Since moving to Thailand I have:
--Discovered the bum gun
--Become totally debt free
--Discovered Internet forums
--Purchased a diesel powered pick-up truck (always had gasoline before)
--Learned to enjoy riding my little motorbike
--Become a millionaire (In terms of the Baht)
--Become a friend of Bill W. without having to attend all those meetings
--Get lost nearly every time I drive more than 25 kilometers from my home
--Always think I am getting a good deal when I see the sign “3 for 100”. (I am learning)
--Cook at home more than before
--I turn off my phones for days at a time (peace and quiet)
--Levis and T-shirts are my friend (except for visits to Immigration)
--Been kissed by a ladyboy and liked it
--I eat Thai style foods about half the time
--The song by Harry Belafonte ??? “Yes, we have no bananas today” actually makes sense to me
Great post mate.
Not sure about the ladyboy thing but at least you're being honest.
Wasn't it Banana Boat Song?

The evils of "refined sugar" is one of the myths of the "holistic" health and "wellness" industries. The reality is that after you eat it, it is quickly broken down into glucose and fructose in exactly the same way as honey or palm sugar.
And then stored in the body as fat.

I hope all foreigners that invole themselves in this "REBELLION" get sent to a Thai prison for life or face execution!
What a kind, thoughtful and sensitive person you are Arjay.

^My thoughts entirely PhilB.
In addition, you can shave off the grey hairs.
Plus look at the money saved on haircuts, shampoo and other 'product.'
We're gonna say it proud, we're bald and we're proud.
If others have a problem with this it is their problem.

Yes, he does seem to be putting his face around a lot at the Red rallies.
And he appears to be promoting himself as a military 'expert' and ex-SAS member. How many bs artists trot that one out?
I think it has all gone to his head. He has a mass audience listening to him and cheering. It must be like a drug to him.
I'm sure the authorities will not forget him in the aftermath of this crisis.

dont mix with a ruskie! Berlin got done over big time in '45.
Napoleon got his arse kicked by them too!

The word that springs to mind here is: denial.
Many men have gone, are, or, will go bald. That's the way it goes.
Most will start off in denial. Comb-overs, fluffing up the remaining hair, etc.
Some will get wigs or some version of a wig (al la Graham Gooch and Shane Warne) which involves sticking plastic plates on the head with 'hair weaves.'
Some, I hope the majority, will eventually accept that they are bald and start clipping and/or shaving, and, most of all, accepting.
There is plenty of life after baldness.
And, let's face it, it looks neat and clean.
I'm gonna say it loud, I'm bald and I'm proud!

Read a book called Pra Farang by an Englishman who was a Buddhist monk in Thailand for 10 years.
I forget his name but you can get the book in Thailand.

I purchased a Kindle from Amazon.com about a month ago. Very happy with it.
I registered the Kindle in Australia.
For anyone in the know, can I download on my Amazon account while in Thailand?
I know I could google but I would like to hear more from people in Thailand now, if possible, please.
