  1. I know this is an old topic, but I just bought an "old" one of these!!!! Not a bad deal for ฿8,900 imo ????
I was also wondering if a basket could be fitted to the front.......it's a shame that they can't, because the lights would be below the basket and thus filling it wouldn't block out being seen by oncoming traffic!!!!! 1.thumb.jpg.669475287850ab2eac8f767d5461166f.jpg

You also might want to try Yeow Ngern - the bottle has an eagle's head on the label. It is a fairly good Bicardi copy. 125 Baht in Big C or Tesco Lotus. 110 Baht in a Thai off-license.

12 years later 145 baht tesco/Makro......not a bad price increase for 12 years......I find this smoother than name brand white spirits

  3. G'day folks,

I am curious to know if those of us who are on visa extensions are included when population statistics are released.
I have been visiting this wondrous land for just shy of 40 years and have lived here non stop now for the last 14 years on non imm O visa extension.

I imagine there is many similar across the kingdom, maybe in excess of a million, but yet not classified as permanent residents even though we are probably the very definition of permanent.

  4. in the mid 80's I was absolutely smashed in Soi Cowboy at 4 AM....I was so smashed that I didn't even know I had been there.........I spent a couple of days visiting the places I remembered I had been and asking about my wallet.........anyhow 2 days later when I wandered into into a bar in soi cowboy, I was greeted with "Sir, Sir, you left your wallet on the bar".......everything including the cash was still there....the cash was somewhat down but I had been partying so I figure it was all good so I emptied both my old and new wallets in that bar that night! I was in bangkok for another week or so and that bar was where I spent most my drinking time (although I did quite ever do a bender like the first one), felt they deserved it.
To cut a long story short, I was a young 22 year old who had already had a great affection for Thailand.....this absolutely nailed it. I knew I loved Thailand. "Long live the King" I said, and I was, and am, so grateful that he did.

  5. Just to clarify Medical certificate for renewals ( as across different post's some say required and others say not required.
Did my 5 year renewal today. Not required 100%.

So a big thumbs up for me for not going and getting one like I did the last two 5 yr renewals ????
There's even a big requirements board (top of stairs, immediate left) that states, YES you need it for initial ONE year licence and NOT on list of requirements for FIVE year licence and subsequent renewals.
Residence Cert Original (or work permit or Yellow book & copies)
    Passport
    Drivers and/or Riders Licences
    Copy of passport Facepage
Copy of Visa or visa extension page
    Copy of last entry stamp
    Copy of TM6 Departure Card
Extra copies id both drivers & riders licences and residence cert
    Procedure:
Have all the above ready to roll or do the copies there (far end of 2nd floor)
Go to info desk, they'll check you have evertything and give  you form/s (only have to sign and add tel no)
Go to Desk 27 to submit paperwork and they will give you queue no ( I went in the morning and was given a number but told to come back at 1.
Next step they call out a group ( by queue no eg.1 to 75) to go behind  Desk 27 and do a colour vision test and a brake response test.
You will then collect your paperwork and head to a nominated room.
Most likely it will be to room 3 for Road safety/rules/etiquette videos in English ( the last 3 times I did them in room 2 in Thai, just as boring but a few road rules I never picked up when watching the thai version)
After the video you head back to desk 27 and have a new number which is the cashiers number....after your number has been called and you pay head back to the opening beside desk 27 and use the same number for the new queue which is the photo and the licence printing. And then your set!!!!
Fees ( I think car the same and motorbike went up, but not sure):
Application Form 5 Baht per licence
    Private Drivers 500 Baht
    Private Riders 250 Baht
Total for both licences 760 Baht

    Notes.
My licence expired last week and I got the next 5 birthdays method, so effectively a 6 year expiring in 2568 (2025)
For whatever reason this was the first time I never had to do the regular eye test (ABC, gor gai kor kai, numbers etc).....not that I was worried, my long vision is perfect but arms aren't long enough to read without glasses nowadays ????
Hope this is of use to someone.
Don't go the day after a public holiday....it was still quite breezy but took a tad longer than my other times

  6. year extension (family) today. Arrived at 06:40AM, plenty of parking, went in grabbed a number NOTE: Had to show my wife to get number, a couple of folks in the line before were there early to get their number but weren't given it because no wife.
At 7AM immigration started processing applications. Some Retirement Ext guys in particular were in and out in a flash. I estimate the first Marriage/Family Ext couple was on their way by half eight.
Full Staff came in at 08:30AM and things quickened up. We were out of there at 10:00AM which was the quickest by far for a few years.
MAIN THING: BOTH HUSBAND AND WIFE TO BE PRESENT OR NO QUEUE NUMBER.
OTHER Things: Have a couple of copies of 90 day notification, and if you have children (yours) and they are old enough for ID Cards, make sure you have copies of that as well. (I had all that, it was a new one for me last year)
Parking: Went across road to the 7 about 7:45, still a couple of spots available.....full at 8:00.
Imm Staff all seemed very friendly and I'd rate it as a good experience after doing it for the 13th year.
    That's all, peace out

  7. Are procedures for yearly visa ext still much the same at the new CM imm as they were at Promenada and old CM imm prior to that? ie. get in early to get a ticket to get a queue number. Previously the initial ticket numbers would be handed out around 7:30 AM...still the same?

  8. I love that store, best 20 baht shop I've yet to see, sad to hear it's gone. I hope the rest of it's chain aren't gone, but I'm thinking if busy KSK has gone then they've probably come afoul of the law/tax/under counter payments!
They had 7 outlests although I only knew location of original store & KSK.

The original store is/was located on Chotana Soi 22 which is north of the super HWY, not quite to the inner ring road, about half way between the 107 rd and Ping river, alongside a 7eleven

  9. I bought a 60 baht one Dyso Central Festival (they're at a few locations). I found it sturdy enough although could be a bit longer. Plenty good ones available online (Shopee, Lazada, Ali Express etc) and a 60 Baht one may well cover until the better one arrives.

  10. Greetings Northerners, Funsters and Coal Miners,

Myself and a group of friends are planning a gathering which normally involves several towers of beer in addition to the jovial conversation that we enjoy (especially after the first few towers have been depleted).
Anyhow my question is: Would the 5th of December be a good day to plan for this being that it's a public holiday or is it still a no alcohol day. and I should plan for another date?

    Peace and out,

    The Blooded Tiger

  11. Big thumbs up to Sangchai Panich, and to the guys who recommended them.
Was after a particular battery for the wife's old Yamaha MIO (different battery to the new MIO), so after reading this thread yesterday after noon I found their facebook page
    https://www.facebook.com/SANGCHAIPANICH/
sent them a message for a price, they responded with in about only a minute!! 370 Baht which is quite a bit cheaper than any I could fine online (lazada, shoppee etc). Was first customer this morning when they opened, they even have basement parking if you go by car, 370 baht paid, got home and replaced it in like 2 minutes. The missus is now a happy camper, as am I.
You can find directions via the facebook page or by putting Sangchai Panich Chiangmai into google maps (or even just google)

  12. that quote seems a bit too high.
Maybe go to a local store that sells bricks, gravel, sand, bagged cement and get a quote from them. There's plenty of these sorts of places around most neighbourhoods.
Another option would be to have a go yourself, it's not really that hard to do and the result can be quite rewarding.....or get a few mates around, put on a barbie and some beer and make a day of it.

  13. Greetings ChiangMaiPudlians,

A few years back AIS upgraded my 2G phone to a LAVA IRIS 360 for next to nothing. I discovered last week that it is SIM LOCKED and can't use another carriers Sim card, here or abroad.
The solution ended up being simple, but prior to that I spent a heap of time on the internet trying to solve it with no luck unless you are willing to fork out $$$$, downloaded heaps of different MTK apps from google playstore that could supposedly unlock it.....but none of them could.
Anyhow, after pulling out most of my little remaining hair, I took a drive to the LAVA service centre on the off chance they could unlock it...and they did....had to leave the phone with them for a couple of hours and they basically installed a new unlocked version of the same phone......lose all data stored on phone but that wasn't a problem for me as most of mine was stored in the memory card......oh yeah, and it was FREE. Yeah baby. Thank you LAVA.

So anyone else with this same problem, try contacting your phone manufacturers service centre.

The Lava Service Centre in CM is at the Star Avenue Superhighway  in a shop house next to McDonalds.

How to check if your Phone is Sim Locked (for Android), go to settings > about phone > Build number. My previous version had the words "simme_lock" as part of the build number, now it doesn't.

I hope this can help some people out. Make a back up of your data prior if required.

    Cheers,
