Hi Binjalin,
Since you have done this recently (in CM I assume), can you explain the latest procedure you went through (docs required etc). Also what Amphur did you deal with as I heard that some district offices differ on requirements.
A response appreciated....been here on and off for over 35 years and full time past 11 but never got off my butt to get this book.....can see that it would of saved some grief over the years!cheers

I'm in no real rush but I do intend to check both of the above suggestions.
And yes, I'll report back my findings - I can never understand why others find it so hard to do so, having asked for and been given help surely it's the least you can do in return.

okay guys, checked my emails this morning and found out I received approval (email actually received yesterday, so same day as submitting)
Printed off the form to put in passport
Easy as.
.
Pungdo, maybe you didn't enter your flight number?.
cheers people and hopefully the problems that some are experiencing will be sorted over the next few months
quick edit: I said yesterday that I used google chrome no worries, which I did. Today it didn't work so I used IE. Wasn't a problem as I have IE, but just FYI.......and I have no idea why it worked with chrome yesterday and not today!!!!

"Not having the need of a bar for a life style"
I guess statements like this amuse many patrons of bars(myself included) who didn't even realise that they were there because they needed a lifestyle...............
of course though, " Not having posted close to ten thousand times for a lifestyle", I could be excused
not slinging....just smiling

I think I read here on TV that the residence certificate is now FREE at immigration, maybe that is why they don't want to issue them anymore?
Did the consulate charge you for it?
I had read that same post, and the notice was still actually up on the outside of immigration (where the old main entrance used to be) and stated the required documents for residence permit and that there is no fee.
My consulate didn't charge a fee, but I donated a tip to his staff (my idea not his)

i renewed my 5 yr license today and have effectively got a 6 year licence...here's why
- when you get or renew a 5 year licence the 5 years will start from your next birthday
- my birthday was last week and thus my license had expired by a few days
- my new one is now valid until April 2019
I would of actually renewed it prior to it expiring but couldn't get a resident certificate from CM immigration. See my earlier post http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/632161-residence-certificate-cm-immigration-will-not-issue/
Here's the documents i had for my license renewal
- Passport
- Old drivers license
- Copies of passport Data page, TM6, Re-entry stamp(not applicable for everyone), last entry stamp, visa valid until date
- residence certificate (mine from consulate in English, no translation required)
- medical certificate (mine from loi Kroh clinic 100 baht)
If you are applying for both car and riders license you will need a second copy of everything
Sign all the copies
There is a copying service right at the license section for 1 baht a copy.
Here is my procedure today
- Walked staight up to 2nd floor at approx 13;15
- Went to information counter with my paperwork and passport/licenses
- Was directed to the other counters and filled in some parts of the application (at this stage chatting with a lady working at one of the counters it was apparent that many others were also having/had problems with their resident certificates also)
- Was directed to another counter where I took a brake reaction test and a colour blindness test (5 years ago there was a depth perception test as well, but not today)
- I then went and watched about an hour of road safety movies and a couple of guys re-inforcing the dangers of drink driving, driving tires, hazards of speeding, motor cycle awareness. This was all in Thai and i was the only farang in the room. I was asked if I wanted to see the movies in English, but I went with the Thai.
- Then went in the queue again and waited for about 40 minutes. I was the last one in the movie room, so they were all ahead of me for the proccessing.
- Paid 960 baht for both licenses
- Was finished in a little under 2 hours all up
Hope this is helpful to anyone interested.
As a side note, was talking to a guy whilst at immigration yesterday (prior to NOT getting a resident certificate) and he reckons that, using the new style drivers license which has your passport or ID number on it, that when he flys down to Bangkok and leaves his passport at home (just takes a copy with him)
-
I needed a resident certificate for my 5 year drivers and riders license renewal.
- Went to CM immigration on Tues 02 April in the afternoon and was told to come back tomorrow.
- So I came back on Wed 03 April in the morning and was told to come back on the 9th April
- I arrived there yesterday, 09 April, at 0715 and ended up being number 87 in the queue !!!! When I got to the front of the queue I was told by the immigration officer (the guy who explains the procedure if you're there at 8 o'clock) that they can no longer issue resident certificates and please see your embassy or consulate
I'm not going to be surprised if this policy changes again shortly. Judging by some previous posts there has been numerous changes on the way this has been issued at CM. Needless to say it is frustrating.
I suppose I should be mad or peeved off with CM imm. But I am not. For wahtever frustrations we have with the place, I think it would be an absolute nightmare to work there and be faced with endless hordes everytime you come to work. They are definately understaffed and need a much larger facility.
On a side note I got a resident certificate from my consulate no problems. He told me that a few years ago he was advised by Immigration NOT to write resident certificates!!!
On another side note, I got my 5 year license's renewed today. and because the old one had already expired by a few days, the 5 years sart from next April. Effictively I have a 6 year licence expiring in 2019! There was a little ray of sunshine after all.

how times have changed!!!
You are describing an O visa and it's still like that. Under discussion here is the O-A visa, which is substantially different.
Mahjonguguy....LOL...now I know where my confusion is......I was thinking of "O" visa...not O-A.
Almost 30 years of Thailand experience and I didn't offer anything to this thread.....my apologies......I will once again partly blame beer chang....lol.......sorry to have had no real input into your question
-
yeah, it must of changed since I had my first I year Multi visa.
Back then (93) it was only valid for one year from the date of arrival and then you would have to leave the country every 90 days.
You could get almost 15 months though if you did a border run the day before it expired and then recieved another 90 days.
So much easier nowadays if you can get almost 2 years out of a one year visa.....how times have changed!!!

Any entry on a multi entry non immigrant O-A visa during period it is valid gets one year from date of entry permission to stay stamp. So you can return 11 months after visa was issued for an entry and new permitted to stay would be 23 months after issue date.
LOL, Lopburi, you are totally correct.....that was my bad for reading the post to quickly. I read it as he arrived in August and then recieved another 12 mnts permission of stay in October............I partly blame beer chang though for my silly error......my apologies

Every year when one does their one-year extension, there is a proccessing period that last until one moth after the current extension expired.
Next year I have to leave the country in the period after I apply for my extension, but before I recieve the stamp. (My extension is due 12JAN13, but I won't recieve the stamp until 12FEB13 and need to leave the country 26JAN13-08FEB13).
I would like to know if this presents any problems with regards to the re-entry stamp. If I applied for one now, then it would expire on 12JAN13. The extension isn't actually granted until 12FEB13, so if I apply for one one say 18th FEB, is it accepted.
Or do I need to bring this up at the extension interview?
I've been here a lot of years now, but never had to leave during this period before.
Any help appreciated

Did you actually see his passport stamps? ie, the one saying he had permission to stay for one year from October. Sounds like an one year extension, but if thats the case, the original one year multi is over-ridden and he must apply for re-entry stamp (single or multiple, multiple being valid until the expiry of the one year extension). Also, if it is a first one year extension, then it would only be valid until one year from the date of his last entry into Thailand (possibly the August arrival???).
hope i'm not confusing things here, just can't see under what other circumstances he would of got an extra 12 months permission to stay two months after the visa was activated. Maybe there's more to it????

Anyone know what the procedures regarding work permits/taxes for running ans Web based shop are?
Here's what I'm basically talikng about:-
- Source Thai products
- Sell them over the internet via a E-shop(s)/Website
- Once transactions are made, procure the item and ship it to the buyer
I suppose this would basically be an export business, but obviously this involves actually doing some work thus requiring a valid work permit.
A business like this would takes a long time to build up and would probably only produce a hobby income, so the basic work permit requirments of a minimum of 50000 baht/month income may never be met.
Also, a work permit should be sponsered by a company.
So, lots of people are doing this type of thing here in Thailand, but are they doing it legally? Is there a way to do it legally?
I'm basically on a extension based on family(like so many of us) and was thinking of doing something like this more as a hobby, but am unsure of the legality of it all????
Any knowlegable response would be much appreciated?
regards,

When a complaint regarding illegal work activity is lodged to the immigration police it is their duty to investigate, if they fail to follow through it becomes a dereliction of duty
there's always gonna be some disgruntled A-hole who'll file a complaint. Unfortunately, the immigration police have to check it out.

Personally I would like to see the whole area levelled and replaced with new decent Western style restaurants, giving more choice for tourists and those living here alike, no more open beer bars, all beer bars restored with frontages and doors.
good plan, revamp everything so its "western style". How stupid of some people to think that tourists or foriegners here would enjoy things being Thai!!!

i flew chiang mai to gold coast, australia return for about 14000 Baht, the best deal I could find at the time for any other airline was about 28000baht from bangkok...add on the CNX-BKK legs and over 30K. Although I did have to have an overnight in KL on the way back, but that wasn't a problem for me.
They are trying to get autority to fly to the states and they reckon it'll be about $600US return from KL and even cheaper with promotions.....hopefully they'll get that soon

You're not just talking about the road widening right? That whole road is turning into a proper 4 or 6 lane divided road. Finally.
And it's MIddle RIng!
The road widening is on the HWY 1317 which is the road that connects to the airport road.
and I'm pretty sure thats it is inner ring road.....WONGWIAN NAI and WONGWIAN NORK... inner and outer, but if you include the super highway then yes, it could be called the middle ring road!!!

invest a massive 2.8 million baht in Thailand's first resort mall in Chiang Mai province.
?? so little and their web site is crying out for investors......
typo I think .. go further down in the article .... Billion
I think you may find that the "Investors" they want are for all the retail spaces. Obviously they would like to have the majority of spaces filled by the time they open.

Does anyone know what the new development is on the sankumpaeng rd (HWY 1006) . The location is just after the inner ring road (HWY 3029)if heading from CM to Sankampaeng.......and I'm not taling about the new Promenada Mall wih is on the new Sankampaeng/Hot Springs rd (HWY 1317).
A Thai fella had told me that its gonna be a new Tesco's, but I could neither confirm or deny this by looking at the tesco website.
Just curious,

Hi chiang mai funsters,
last week I submitted my 90 day online and received "pending", but since then have not been able to check the site http://extranet.immigration.go.th/pibics/online/tm47/TM47Action.do as it comes up with "The Site Can't be Reached" everytime. I have used IE and IE ext in chrome but the same. It's been a week now and I simply can't access it.
Have been doing the 90 day online since it started and never incurred a problem. At first I thought it may be just a glitch and would be okay after a day or two.
Anyone else having this difficulty at this time or is it just me?
