  1. I know this is an old topic, but I just bought an "old" one of these!!!! Not a bad deal for ฿8,900 imo ????
I was also wondering if a basket could be fitted to the front.......it's a shame that they can't, because the lights would be below the basket and thus filling it wouldn't block out being seen by oncoming traffic!!!!! 1.thumb.jpg.669475287850ab2eac8f767d5461166f.jpg

You also might want to try Yeow Ngern - the bottle has an eagle's head on the label. It is a fairly good Bicardi copy. 125 Baht in Big C or Tesco Lotus. 110 Baht in a Thai off-license.

12 years later 145 baht tesco/Makro......not a bad price increase for 12 years......I find this smoother than name brand white spirits

  3. G'day folks,

I am curious to know if those of us who are on visa extensions are included when population statistics are released.
I have been visiting this wondrous land for just shy of 40 years and have lived here non stop now for the last 14 years on non imm O visa extension.

I imagine there is many similar across the kingdom, maybe in excess of a million, but yet not classified as permanent residents even though we are probably the very definition of permanent.

  4. in the mid 80's I was absolutely smashed in Soi Cowboy at 4 AM....I was so smashed that I didn't even know I had been there.........I spent a couple of days visiting the places I remembered I had been and asking about my wallet.........anyhow 2 days later when I wandered into into a bar in soi cowboy, I was greeted with "Sir, Sir, you left your wallet on the bar".......everything including the cash was still there....the cash was somewhat down but I had been partying so I figure it was all good so I emptied both my old and new wallets in that bar that night! I was in bangkok for another week or so and that bar was where I spent most my drinking time (although I did quite ever do a bender like the first one), felt they deserved it.
To cut a long story short, I was a young 22 year old who had already had a great affection for Thailand.....this absolutely nailed it. I knew I loved Thailand. "Long live the King" I said, and I was, and am, so grateful that he did.

  5. Just to clarify Medical certificate for renewals ( as across different post's some say required and others say not required.
Did my 5 year renewal today. Not required 100%.

So a big thumbs up for me for not going and getting one like I did the last two 5 yr renewals ????
There's even a big requirements board (top of stairs, immediate left) that states, YES you need it for initial ONE year licence and NOT on list of requirements for FIVE year licence and subsequent renewals.
Residence Cert Original (or work permit or Yellow book & copies)
    Passport
    Drivers and/or Riders Licences
    Copy of passport Facepage
Copy of Visa or visa extension page
    Copy of last entry stamp
    Copy of TM6 Departure Card
Extra copies id both drivers & riders licences and residence cert
    Procedure:
Have all the above ready to roll or do the copies there (far end of 2nd floor)
Go to info desk, they'll check you have evertything and give  you form/s (only have to sign and add tel no)
Go to Desk 27 to submit paperwork and they will give you queue no ( I went in the morning and was given a number but told to come back at 1.
Next step they call out a group ( by queue no eg.1 to 75) to go behind  Desk 27 and do a colour vision test and a brake response test.
You will then collect your paperwork and head to a nominated room.
Most likely it will be to room 3 for Road safety/rules/etiquette videos in English ( the last 3 times I did them in room 2 in Thai, just as boring but a few road rules I never picked up when watching the thai version)
After the video you head back to desk 27 and have a new number which is the cashiers number....after your number has been called and you pay head back to the opening beside desk 27 and use the same number for the new queue which is the photo and the licence printing. And then your set!!!!
Fees ( I think car the same and motorbike went up, but not sure):
Application Form 5 Baht per licence
    Private Drivers 500 Baht
    Private Riders 250 Baht
Total for both licences 760 Baht

    Notes.
My licence expired last week and I got the next 5 birthdays method, so effectively a 6 year expiring in 2568 (2025)
For whatever reason this was the first time I never had to do the regular eye test (ABC, gor gai kor kai, numbers etc).....not that I was worried, my long vision is perfect but arms aren't long enough to read without glasses nowadays ????
Hope this is of use to someone.
Don't go the day after a public holiday....it was still quite breezy but took a tad longer than my other times

  6. "Not having the need of a bar for a life style"

I guess statements like this amuse many patrons of bars(myself included) who didn't even realise that they were there because they needed a lifestyle...............

of course though, " Not having posted close to ten thousand times for a lifestyle", I could be excused

    not slinging....just smilingsmile.png

I think I read here on TV that the residence certificate is now FREE at immigration, maybe that is why they don't want to issue them anymore?

Did the consulate charge you for it?

I had read that same post, and the notice was still actually up on the outside of immigration (where the old main entrance used to be) and stated the required documents for residence permit and that there is no fee.

My consulate didn't charge a fee, but I donated a tip to his staff (my idea not his)

  9. i renewed my 5 yr license today and have effectively got a 6 year licence...here's why

    • when you get or renew a 5 year licence the 5 years will start from your next birthday
    • my birthday was last week and thus my license had expired by a few days
    • my new one is now valid until April 2019

I would of actually renewed it prior to it expiring but couldn't get a resident certificate from CM immigration. See my earlier post http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/632161-residence-certificate-cm-immigration-will-not-issue/

Here's the documents i had for my license renewal

    • Passport
    • Old drivers license
    • Copies of passport Data page, TM6, Re-entry stamp(not applicable for everyone), last entry stamp, visa valid until date
    • residence certificate (mine from consulate in English, no translation required)
    • medical certificate (mine from loi Kroh clinic 100 baht)

If you are applying for both car and riders license you will need a second copy of everything

    Sign all the copies

There is a copying service right at the license section for 1 baht a copy.

    Here is my procedure today

    • Walked staight up to 2nd floor at approx 13;15
    • Went to information counter with my paperwork and passport/licenses
    • Was directed to the other counters and filled in some parts of the application (at this stage chatting with a lady working at one of the counters it was apparent that many others were also having/had problems with their resident certificates also)
    • Was directed to another counter where I took a brake reaction test and a colour blindness test (5 years ago there was a depth perception test as well, but not today)
    • I then went and watched about an hour of road safety movies and a couple of guys re-inforcing the dangers of drink driving, driving tires, hazards of speeding, motor cycle awareness. This was all in Thai and i was the only farang in the room. I was asked if I wanted to see the movies in English, but I went with the Thai.
    • Then went in the queue again and waited for about 40 minutes. I was the last one in the movie room, so they were all ahead of me for the proccessing.
    • Paid 960 baht for both licenses
    • Was finished in a little under 2 hours all up

Hope this is helpful to anyone interested.

As a side note, was talking to a guy whilst at immigration yesterday (prior to NOT getting a resident certificate) and he reckons that, using the new style drivers license which has your passport or ID number on it, that when he flys down to Bangkok and leaves his passport at home (just takes a copy with him)

  10. I needed a resident certificate for my 5 year drivers and riders license renewal.

    • Went to CM immigration on Tues 02 April in the afternoon and was told to come back tomorrow.
    • So I came back on Wed 03 April in the morning and was told to come back on the 9th April
    • I arrived there yesterday, 09 April, at 0715 and ended up being number 87 in the queue !!!! When I got to the front of the queue I was told by the immigration officer (the guy who explains the procedure if you're there at 8 o'clock) that they can no longer issue resident certificates and please see your embassy or consulate

I'm not going to be surprised if this policy changes again shortly. Judging by some previous posts there has been numerous changes on the way this has been issued at CM. Needless to say it is frustrating.

I suppose I should be mad or peeved off with CM imm. But I am not. For wahtever frustrations we have with the place, I think it would be an absolute nightmare to work there and be faced with endless hordes everytime you come to work. They are definately understaffed and need a much larger facility.

On a side note I got a resident certificate from my consulate no problems. He told me that a few years ago he was advised by Immigration NOT to write resident certificates!!!

On another side note, I got my 5 year license's renewed today. and because the old one had already expired by a few days, the 5 years sart from next April. Effictively I have a 6 year licence expiring in 2019! There was a little ray of sunshine after all.

  11. how times have changed!!!

You are describing an O visa and it's still like that. Under discussion here is the O-A visa, which is substantially different.

    Mahjonguguy....LOL...now I know where my confusion is......I was thinking of "O" visa...not O-A.

Almost 30 years of Thailand experience and I didn't offer anything to this thread.....my apologies......I will once again partly blame beer chang....lol.......sorry to have had no real input into your question

  12. yeah, it must of changed since I had my first I year Multi visa.

Back then (93) it was only valid for one year from the date of arrival and then you would have to leave the country every 90 days.

You could get almost 15 months though if you did a border run the day before it expired and then recieved another 90 days.

So much easier nowadays if you can get almost 2 years out of a one year visa.....how times have changed!!!

  13. Any entry on a multi entry non immigrant O-A visa during period it is valid gets one year from date of entry permission to stay stamp. So you can return 11 months after visa was issued for an entry and new permitted to stay would be 23 months after issue date.

LOL, Lopburi, you are totally correct.....that was my bad for reading the post to quickly. I read it as he arrived in August and then recieved another 12 mnts permission of stay in October............I partly blame beer chang though for my silly error......my apologies

  14. Every year when one does their one-year extension, there is a proccessing period that last until one moth after the current extension expired.

Next year I have to leave the country in the period after I apply for my extension, but before I recieve the stamp. (My extension is due 12JAN13, but I won't recieve the stamp until 12FEB13 and need to leave the country 26JAN13-08FEB13).

I would like to know if this presents any problems with regards to the re-entry stamp. If I applied for one now, then it would expire on 12JAN13. The extension isn't actually granted until 12FEB13, so if I apply for one one say 18th FEB, is it accepted.

Or do I need to bring this up at the extension interview?

I've been here a lot of years now, but never had to leave during this period before.

    Any help appreciated
