  1. Picture from responders. A modified box truck recklessly overtaking on a solid yellow line caused a chain reaction collision that forced a car off the road into a roadside canal, leaving the driver lucky to escape with her life. The incident occurred on December 1 along Highway 36 outbound from Rayong city. Police Lieutenant Phornphat Sakhonsathian, an investigator from the Mueang Rayong Police Station, responded to the scene alongside Sawang Porokkusol Rayong rescue services. At the site, a red Suzuki Swift car was found in the canal, with the driver, Ms. Thewika 42, suffering only minor injuries and was rescued by emergency responders. Nearby, a white modified box truck with damage to its left fuel tank and a gray car with scrapes on both sides were also found. All vehicles were taken in for further investigation. According to Ms. Thewika, she had been driving steadily in the middle lane when she suddenly felt her car being hit and found herself plunging into the canal. “It was terrifying,” she said. The driver of the gray car, stated that he had been driving ahead of the red car when the box truck abruptly overtook on the right. This reckless maneuver led to the collisions. The driver of the modified truck, Mr. Kritsana 34, admitted that he had been frustrated by the frequent braking of the gray car ahead of him. “I couldn’t overtake on the left, and when the car in front braked again, I lost control and had to swerve to the right to avoid going off the road,” he explained. His sudden movement caused him to collide with the other vehicles. CCTV footage from a nearby area confirmed that the modified truck illegally overtook on a solid yellow line, leading to the collision. Authorities have taken Mr. Kritsana into custody for questioning at Mueang Rayong Police Station and are proceeding with legal action. Further updates on this case will be provided as investigations continue. -- 2024-12-02

  5. Picture from responders. A crash occurred on the evening of November 30, when a 19-year-old motorcyclist, named as Sunny Ambleton, reported as having dual nationality but no other details were disclosed, was killed instantly after colliding head-on with a fuel tanker on Highway 356, the Ayutthaya-Suphanburi bypass. The collision, which took place near kilometre marker 3 in Koh Rian Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, resulted in the motorcycle catching fire. The victim’s body was burned, and his bike was heavily damaged. Authorities were alerted to the incident at 19:00 and Lt. Panya Amatsena of the Ayutthaya Police Station led the investigation. Firefighters from Koh Rian Subdistrict and rescue teams from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found a 22-wheel fuel tanker with registration plates from Bangkok parked by the roadside. The truck’s front-right headlight was shattered, and the vehicle had sustained some front end damage. About 300 metres away, the motorcyclist’s Honda PCX, bearing Ayutthaya plates, was overturned and burned. The tanker driver had managed to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher before emergency responders arrived. The truck driver, identified as 33-year-old Apisak, recounted that he was returning from delivering fuel in Suphanburi and heading to Chonburi. He heard a loud crash at the front of his truck, initially believing it to be a tyre blow out. Upon stopping, he saw the motorcycle had sled down the road and caught fire. He quickly extinguished the blaze with his truck’s dry powder extinguisher and discovered the victim, who had succumbed to his injuries. The motorcyclist, a 19-year-old from Bang Ban District, Ayutthaya, remained pinned under the motorcycle, with severe injuries and burns. Preliminary investigations indicate that the motorcyclist, reportedly traveling against traffic on the wrong side of the road, to overtake another car, collided with the fuel tanker. Police are examining skid marks, collision damage, and footage from the truck’s dashboard camera to confirm the sequence of events, but initial findings support the truck driver’s account of the collision. The incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and emphasises the need for road safety awareness. Further investigations are ongoing. -- 2024-12-01

  19. Picture captured from CCTV. The incident occurred at Wat Kaeng Khan Sung, a temple in Moo 3, Ban Khan Sung, Chanuman District, Amnat Charoen Province, when an unfinished Buddha statue in the walking posture collapsed. The incident, which occurred around midday on November 29, resulted in the death of one monk and injuries to six others. Police Lieutenant Sombat Inlert of Chanuman Police Station received the report from local residents and immediately dispatched authorities to the scene. The collapsed statue, which stood 9 metres tall and was still under construction, left debris of concrete, steel, and moulds scattered across the area. The deceased was identified as Phra Patipha Udomlipha, the monk leading the construction. The injured included two monks and four novice monks, who were rushed to Chanuman Hospital for treatment. According to Phra Khru Wirachet Chinnawongso, the abbot of Wat Kaeng Khan Sung, the statue was being built to serve as a place of worship for locals and tourists visiting the temple, which is located along the banks of the Mekong River. The area is a popular destination, home to a well-known riverside restaurant owned by singer Aem Chonnicha. Preliminary investigations suggest that the collapse occurred because the concrete had not fully set. It was reported that workers hurried to remove the mould to reuse it for another project, despite the risk of structural instability. Compounding the situation, strong winter winds may have added to the pressure, causing the statue to give way. The abbot expressed regret over the tragedy, attributing the collapse to the urgency of the construction team to expedite the process. Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future. -- 2024-12-01

The victim was found lying face down with severe injuries, including a crushed skull, broken arms and legs, and significant blood loss. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Nearby, a black Honda City sedan with a damaged front bumper, dented hood, and shattered windshield was parked on the roadside. The driver, Mr. Ilu Wei, a 44-year-old Chinese national, appeared distraught and was crying uncontrollably. Rescue personnel helped him out of the vehicle and escorted him to the road median, where he remained unable to provide a statement to police. 22. Picture from responders The Pattani Ranger Unit has intensified efforts to evacuate bedridden patients from their homes as floodwaters continue to rise in the province. On November 30, local news outlets reported that water levels in Pattani remain critically high. Although the heavy rainfall has eased, water from Yala province continues to flow into the area, worsening the situation. Nong Chik District is among the hardest-hit areas, with severe flooding submerging roads, allowing only high-clearance vehicles to pass. Homes, shops, and government offices have been inundated, and strong currents pose further challenges to residents. In what is being described as the worst flooding in Nong Chik’s history, residents have been scrambling to relocate their belongings amidst torrential rain. The district is a key waterway leading to the sea, compounding the flood’s severity. Nong Chik Hospital has also been affected, forcing the evacuation of patients and staff to safer locations yesterday. Rangers from Unit 43, alongside their Quick Response Team and volunteer groups, were deployed to assist residents in Don Rak Subdistrict, specifically in Moo 7, Ban Don Rak Jarang. They focused on evacuating disabled individuals and bedridden elderly residents to safe zones as water levels continued to rise due to the prolonged heavy rainfall and inflow from Yala province. Floodwaters in the community reached chest level, making evacuation efforts possible only by boat. Soldiers dragged boats through the area, navigating strong currents in some sections. So far, bedridden patients have been successfully relocated to temporary evacuation centers in safe zones. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, providing aid to affected residents and ensuring that vulnerable groups are given priority. -- 2024-12-01
