Sirachart Noothet, Deputy Superintendent of Operations, set up a task force of over 30 officers and community police volunteers to cordon off a wooded area in Soi Land Department, Pattaya, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. Their mission: to track down a suspect involved in a daring gold ring theft. The incident was reported to the police at approximately 18:30. According to the report, the perpetrator, a Thai male of medium build, with a tan complexion, wearing a black and red long-sleeved jacket and black trousers, entered the “Golden 99 Yaowarat Gold” shop on the first floor of Tukcom Pattaya Mall. Pretending to inquire about purchasing a gold ring, the suspect requested to see a gold ring weighing one baht, valued at about 45,000 baht. As soon as the shop staff handed him the ring, the suspect fled the scene without warning, prompting immediate police action. The driver of the pickup, who was found to be heavily intoxicated, has been arrested and faces serious charges. At approximately 12:30 on December 1, Pol. Lt. Pracherng Ounkaew, deputy investigator at Khun Han Police Station, received a report of a collision involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle on the Ban Huai Chan–Ban Nam Mut Road near Sam Pika intersection in Huai Chan Subdistrict. Rescue teams and law enforcement were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found a damaged Toyota Vigo pickup truck that had crashed into a rubber tree after veering off the road. Vehicle debris was scattered across the area, but the driver had fled the scene. He was later identified as Mr. Lamphueng 50, a resident of Bak Dong Subdistrict, Khun Han District. Nearby, authorities discovered a red and white Honda Wave 125 motorcycle that had been completely wrecked. Two individuals, Ms. Pattararat 22 and Woraphon, 6, were pronounced dead at the scene. A third victim, Natthaphat 7, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. According to eyewitnesses, both vehicles were traveling in the same direction. The motorcycle had stopped at the intersection, preparing to turn right, when the pickup truck suddenly plowed into it at high speed. The impact sent all three victims flying, with one child, Woraphon, becoming trapped under the pickup truck. Amid the chaos, the driver of the pickup fled but was apprehended by police at his residence shortly after. Mr. Saengrawee the father of Woraphon explained that Ms. Pattararat, his younger sister, was a vocational student at Khun Han Vocational College. Both children were primary school students, Woraphon in kindergarten and Natthaphat in first grade. The three victims had been riding the motorcycle to buy snacks before returning to help with farm work. “I spoke with Mr. Lamphueng, the driver, and he admitted he was drunk. I hope the authorities enforce the law to its fullest extent,” he said. When questioned, Mr. Lamphueng, visibly intoxicated and incoherent, admitted to drinking large amounts of white liquor with friends prior to the incident. He claimed he was unaware of how the accident unfolded due to his impaired state. He also suffered a broken right shoulder during the crash. Police confirmed that Mr. Lamphueng’s blood alcohol level was far exceeding the legal limit. He was detained and charged with reckless driving causing death and fleeing the scene of an accident. -- 2024-12-02

  6. Picture captured from video. A video of a foreign man diving into the murky waters of Bangkok’s infamous Khlong Saen Saep has gone viral, leaving Thai netizens in shock and sparking heated debates online about water safety and health risks. The clip, shared on November 30, by the account @RedSkullxxx on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), shows the man fearlessly jumping into the canal and swimming with apparent ease. The video has since amassed widespread attention, with many viewers expressing disbelief and concern over his actions. Thai social media users quickly flooded the post with comments questioning how someone could dare to swim in the notoriously polluted canal, which has long been known for its poor water quality and dangerous boat traffic. The primary concerns voiced by commenters revolved around the canal’s extreme pollution and the potential health hazards. One user wrote: “If he inhales even a little water, bacteria will eat away at his brain for sure.” Another warned of physical dangers, adding: “The water is dirty, but more than that, aren’t you afraid of the express boats? If one hits you, you’re gone. Worst case, you get sliced by a boat propeller.” The canal, a vital yet heavily polluted waterway, serves as a transit route for commuter boats in Bangkok. Locals pointed out the risk of sudden boat collisions, especially as the man appeared to be swimming without paying attention to oncoming traffic. For years, Khlong Saen Saep has been a subject of public health warnings due to its toxic mix of industrial waste, household garbage, and untreated sewage. Descriptions of its water include oil slicks, floating debris, and a strong stench. Despite cleanup efforts by authorities, the canal remains one of the city’s most polluted waterways. A commenter shared their past observations, stating: “Back when I was a student near Asok, kids would jump into the canal for fun, but the surface of the water was covered in oil and trash. It was disgusting!” Another added: “During the Loy Krathong festival, people still get into the water, even though it’s not safe. I shudder just thinking about it.” While many criticized the man’s actions as reckless and hazardous, a smaller portion of commenters defended his choice, arguing that personal freedom should be respected as long as it doesn’t harm others. One user remarked: “Where someone chooses to swim is their business. Just don’t inconvenience others.” The viral video has reignited discussions about the state of Bangkok’s waterways and the persistent environmental challenges they face. Many netizens are calling for stronger public awareness campaigns and stricter measures to address water pollution and safety. As the debate rages on, one thing remains clear: the video has highlighted not only the shocking daring of the foreign man but also the dire state of Khlong Saen Saep, which many Thais hope will one day see significant improvement. -- 2024-12-02

The incident occurred at 04:30, along the Theparak Road (Bang Na–Trat), near the entrance to Bang Pakong Power Plant in Moo 5, Tha Kham Subdistrict, Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao. Police Lieutenant Veerawat Khunsuk, Deputy Inspector of Bang Pakong Police Station, together with Chachoengsao rescue teams, arrived at the scene to find a black and green Honda Scoopy motorcycle with Chonburi registration. The vehicle had crashed into the rear of a white, 22-wheel Hino trailer truck, also registered in Chonburi, which was parked on the roadside. The motorcyclist, identified as Ms. Kanjana, was found deceased at the scene with severe head injuries, including a fractured skull. Her body was transported to Bang Pakong Hospital for a preliminary autopsy. A passing motorist reported seeing the aftermath of the crash and turned back to investigate. Initial investigations suggest that the motorcyclist was traveling at high speed and failed to notice the stationary trailer truck parked on the side of the road, resulting in the fatal collision. 10. Picture and video from responders. A fire broke out early this morning in Wang Tapab village, Nong Prong Subdistrict, Sri Maha Phot District, Prachinburi Province, claiming the life of a 14-year-old boy who was alone at home, along with several pet dogs. At around 08:00, Police Lieutenant Kittipong Sihabut, an investigator at Rabo Phai Police Station, received a report of a house fire. Firefighters from the Nong Prong Subdistrict Administrative Organisation and rescue volunteers were dispatched to the scene, a single-story house located 3–4 kilometres off the main road. Upon arrival, authorities found the house engulfed in flames. Efforts to extinguish the fire were hindered by the house’s wooden structure, which fueled the flames despite the house’s concrete base. Firefighters battled the blaze for an hour before it was brought under control. However, the house was completely gutted, with only the charred frame remaining. Inside the first bedroom, responders discovered the body of a 14-year-old boy on the bed, burned beyond recognition. The fire also destroyed all possessions, including three motorcycles, and killed 6 pet dogs, whose remains were found in the house. The boy’s parents, who were out buying groceries at a nearby market, rushed back upon learning of the fire. The mother collapsed repeatedly upon seeing the aftermath and required first aid from rescuers. The boy’s father explained that the family of four lived in the house, and on this Sunday morning, he and his wife had left their son sleeping while they went to the market. The boy, known for being a deep sleeper, typically woke up early for school but was allowed to rest as it was the weekend. “This child is a deep sleeper. If it’s not a school day, he tends to sleep in. We didn’t want to disturb him and left quietly for the market. I believe this fire started from a phone charger and I want to warn others to be cautious about charging devices like phones or tablets, ensure they’re fully unplugged when not in use,” the father said. Forensic investigators will conduct a thorough examination to determine the cause of the fire. -- 2024-12-02 ScreenRecording_12-01-2024 14-53-53_1.mp4

  12. Picture and video from responders. A loud crashing sound startled Betong Municipality workers on the morning of December 1, as a massive landslide occurred behind the municipal office in Betong, Yala province. The incident caused the parking lot to collapse, severely damaging several vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, as it was at the weekend. At approximately 07:45, municipal staff working over the weekend reported hearing a loud noise. Upon investigating, they discovered that a landslide had struck the rear of the Betong municipal office building. The landslide displaced soil, causing parked government vehicles to tilt and lift. A total of seven vehicles were damaged in the incident. Mr. Sakul Lenglakun, the Mayor of Betong, arrived at the scene shortly after and conducted an initial assessment of the damage. He explained that the landslide had caused extensive damage to the parking area and raised concerns about potential structural impacts on the municipal building. Officials have been relocated to the old municipal office building as a precaution. The mayor stated that the Yala Provincial Public Works and Town Planning Office, along with other relevant agencies, have been notified to inspect the building and surrounding area to ensure safety and plan preventive measures. While the landslide itself caused no injuries, its aftermath has heightened concerns among local residents regarding shortages of essential goods. Landslides have disrupted portions of the Yala–Betong highway, a key supply route. However, local authorities have assured the public that deliveries of fresh produce and essential goods, including cooking gas, have resumed. Trucks from Hat Yai, Songkhla province, were able to deliver supplies earlier this morning, alleviating concerns about food shortages. Additionally, public transportation services between Yala and Betong have resumed despite the damaged highway. Although traffic is limited to a single lane in some areas, operators have continued services to meet the urgent needs of the community. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has reported a decrease in rain activity in southern Thailand. However, isolated showers are still expected in areas including Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat, urging residents to remain cautious as the region recovers from the landslide. -- 2024-12-02 ScreenRecording_12-01-2024 14-41-09_1.mp4

  20. Picture captured from CCTV A tragic incident in Hat Yai has claimed the life of Dr. Narun Nattharom, a university lecturer specialising in environmental management and sustainable development at the Institute of Environmental Management and Sustainable Development. He also taught community public health at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Hat Yai University. The incident occurred on November 28, around 16.00 during heavy flooding in the area. The fatal event took place at a townhouse in a residential area along Plak Thong Road in Koh Hong subdistrict. Surveillance footage revealed that Dr. Narun was closing the metal gate of his home, which was surrounded by floodwaters, when he was electrocuted. He lost consciousness and fell into the water. An inspection of the property revealed that one of the electrical wires had been exposed, with its core visible. Investigators suspect that the wire came into contact with the metal gate, causing an electric shock. Experts noted that proper installation requires double-insulated cables for outdoor use, or single-insulated wires to be encased in protective conduits. Concerns have been raised about the design and approval process of the housing project, as these safety standards may not have been adhered to. Tanit Pongpan, a close friend of Dr. Narun, expressed shock and frustration over the incident, questioning the safety standards of the project. He called for a thorough investigation into the design and inspection processes, particularly regarding the potential risks posed by exposed electrical wires near the metal gate. Neighbours described Dr. Narun as a kind and selfless individual who helped distribute medicine and supplies to flood-affected residents in the area just days before the tragedy. One neighbor recounted hearing screams during the incident but was hesitant to assist immediately due to fears of active electrical currents in the water. The housing project developer has promised full cooperation and support for the victim’s family. “We are deeply saddened by the incident and have reached out to the family to provide compensation,” a representative said. The developer added that they are working closely with the Provincial Electricity Authority to address the issue across the entire project. While electricity has been restored to unaffected homes, the house where the incident occurred remains under investigation. The developer stressed that the project adhered to safety standards and that the electricity authority had approved the wiring before connecting the homes. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. -- 2024-12-02

  24. Picture from responders. A modified box truck recklessly overtaking on a solid yellow line caused a chain reaction collision that forced a car off the road into a roadside canal, leaving the driver lucky to escape with her life. The incident occurred on December 1 along Highway 36 outbound from Rayong city. Police Lieutenant Phornphat Sakhonsathian, an investigator from the Mueang Rayong Police Station, responded to the scene alongside Sawang Porokkusol Rayong rescue services. At the site, a red Suzuki Swift car was found in the canal, with the driver, Ms. Thewika 42, suffering only minor injuries and was rescued by emergency responders. Nearby, a white modified box truck with damage to its left fuel tank and a gray car with scrapes on both sides were also found. All vehicles were taken in for further investigation. According to Ms. Thewika, she had been driving steadily in the middle lane when she suddenly felt her car being hit and found herself plunging into the canal. “It was terrifying,” she said. The driver of the gray car, stated that he had been driving ahead of the red car when the box truck abruptly overtook on the right. This reckless maneuver led to the collisions. The driver of the modified truck, Mr. Kritsana 34, admitted that he had been frustrated by the frequent braking of the gray car ahead of him. “I couldn’t overtake on the left, and when the car in front braked again, I lost control and had to swerve to the right to avoid going off the road,” he explained. His sudden movement caused him to collide with the other vehicles. CCTV footage from a nearby area confirmed that the modified truck illegally overtook on a solid yellow line, leading to the collision. Authorities have taken Mr. Kritsana into custody for questioning at Mueang Rayong Police Station and are proceeding with legal action. Further updates on this case will be provided as investigations continue. -- 2024-12-02
