After the covid in many tourist restos (also others) prices went to the ceiling... Typical Thai... what they lost in a few years they want to earn back in a few weeks...

I did the same 25 years ago in Nong Nooch Garden in Pattaya. We were young(er) and stupid !!! When I now see people doing the same I shake my head and tell myself "There was a time you also were such a fool" 🙃 😉

I did this once about 15 years ago in Nakhon Si Thammarat. I said to my (ex) GF and her family, "OK guys, you enter the park and have a nice time, I will stay outside and wait for you." Which I did! Of course, the family could not understand, as they all thought I was a Rockefeller member. I could easily afford the entrance fee, but for me, it's all about the principle!

The one that impacted me was "The damage done". I read it twice in 2 weeks about 20 years ago. It was about 3 Aussies also smuggling drugs. Another one I read was in Dutch about an Amsterdam taxi driver who fell for a client's promise in his cab: " Bring 1 small package to Bangkok, and you are rich." He got caught at the airport in BKK and also spent many years in prison. After several years, he was released due to a royal pardon. After he returned to Holland, he changed his life in a better way. He started touring Holland to schools and other places, telling and teaching the youth to NOT do stupid things like he did in the past...

And what about Thailand ?? Everywhere on construction sites, you see signs with SAFETY FIRST..... What a JOKE ! Children are running around there barefoot on soil full of sand, glass shards, rusted nails, etc 🙃

But that's exactly the problem! In case you give money to the (poor) family, you do NOT know if they spend it carefully or not, whatever your wife or g/f tells you! In my 30 years in LOS, I've seen enough... In most places where you come in "poor Isaan", they know only ONE thing : ALCOHOL ! That's where the money is going! So for me, not being a "rich" farang, I will not "help" them with spending the money on beer, whiskey, Lao kao, etc... I help my g/f and her 12-year-old daughter who stays with us. My g/f has a job, and with that money she "takes care" of Mom and Dad. 😉
