Why do retirees marry in Thailand ?

They've probably grown up watching the Hangover II think Thailand is idyllic and Bangkok is a short speed boat ride away from Phuket. -

The missus keeps dropping hints when we get married one day about a bridal prices. She calls it sin sod which apparently means "lucky sod" fee a husband pays the in law family. Is this really a thing? I have asked google but the answers are even more confusing. Also, is there some kind of warranty or money back guarantee with bride prices if she says she can cook but really can't or can I get insurance for it? Would appreciate any advice, and preferably not from the tourists in Thailand who only come for sex but from blokes in proper relationships with experience. Thanks

Fantastic Thread, well done OP. Other than muay Thai and occasionally golf, the Thai's have failed to reach their sporting potential. They should focus more on swimming given their proximity to the sea. It's also difficult when the infrastructure is on par with Adelaide -

I'm 3 weeks here and beginning to get sick of it tbh. I spent this afternoon training my Thai girlfriend how to make a chicken parmingana with chips and tomato sauce. All foods seem to rely on the same few spices I have noticed and lack salt. So once you've had a Tom yum, you've basically had green curry, bahm mi, pad Thai and all other local cuisines. The vegetables and herbs are all pretty much the same across dishes too. Don't get me wrong, Thai food is delicious but I think it gets a bit overrated after 3 straight weeks. Does anyone else feel the same?
