  1. It's only really a problem for those who can't afford it tbh so it doesn't faze me
  2. Is it true they're the same beer? I was told the same beer, it just ferments differently in the bottle shape
  3. The blue Daytona and DayDate are elite mate!
  4. Don't worry mate, I get a lot of jealousy over my rolex all the time. People just don't want to be happy for others' successes
  5. This so much I see heaps of them at the bar; they look like they've been sitting in the same chairs with the same sex pest farangs for years
  6. I think I went in November so couldn't really comment friend
  7. Disagree and I don't hang out with any expats. You can feel like a local without being born here
  8. Embarrassing post from you. Over 3k posts suggests you haven't left your Khao San Rd hostel the entire time
  9. There is so much judgement!! When I told my friends back home I'm packing up and moving over to Thailand they assumed I was just a sex tourist / pest. They don't realise I'm here for the culture and food and bars and beaches People here are just generally nicer and happier
  10. Yeah a fair point on Coopers. They were probably the first craft beer company who made it mainstream. I classify it as craft beer as its family owned and taste hasn't changed but its regular in both Southern and Eastern Australia now
  11. There is something a lot more familiar and homely about Thailand compared to Western countries. This forum a classic example; the majority of Westerns are not friendly or welcoming whereas I go out into the hotel grounds and everyone smiles and says hi
  12. Agreed, it's hard to ask a proper question without being labelled a troll or someone else's account or get called names
  13. Wow, you must be unsettled mate. I don't know how it could take anyone 30 years here but each to their own. Try taking a language or cooking class or book a tour to fit in more
  14. Um excuse me?? I am exploring, I'm going to Bangkok tomorrow for an appointment. I've been to heaps of bars and night markets and the beach at Pranburi. I'm asking about others' experiences
  15. I've been pleasantly surprised how quickly its taken me tbh. I've been here nearly 3 weeks and already feel at home. I've previously done the usual tourist trips to Pattaya, Patong and Kuta but never been a local in Thailand. Even though I'm well travelled and cultured, it's a different feeling actually feeling like a local in a foreign land. Between wives 2 and 3 I spent a month in the Philippines to try and meet someone but never felt totally comfortable and like it was home. There were too many Western sex tourists. Here, I've already met someone, starting to learn the language, joined this online forum which is a useful resource and even eat mostly local food. The locals are always smiling and welcoming. I have even stopped adding tomato sauce to my pad Thai (in Australia tomato sauce accompanies every meal). Case in point below; my breakfast this morning was a Thai bahm mi and two little boys. How has everyone else's experiences been fitting in? Was there a defining moment where Thailand felt like home and you were a local? MICK
  16. Thanks friend, a great post and much appreciated
  17. At 1000bt it is getting close to your price range friend, although you'd need to sacrifice a few dinners to afford
  18. Incorrect; my Thai girlfriend clearly cares so I'll take the word of a local over some nuffy farang. And per your second sentence, this is the point, the movie grossly misrepresents Thailand
  19. Yep, I'm starting to realise this with my missus. Everytime I ask her to go to the shop to grab a 6 pack she asks for extra money to get her nails done or feet manicured. Still, happy wife happy life I guess and it keeps the old girl smiling
  20. Yes this what really set the missus off; she was getting all agro "don't they know phuket is hundreds of kilometres away? It would takes days to get it plus there are hundreds of islands you would get lost in and couldn't find it without gps". I replied "righto Darl, a bit of hush so we can watch" and she spent the evening pouting while we watched the movie.
  21. The missus wanted a movie night last night so I suggested we watch the Hangover II due to it being set in Thailand (my girlfriend is a local). Well, didn't this suggestion go down like a lead balloon. She went on to say how Thai people are ashamed at how their country is portrayed and it makes them look to be an impoverished sex-riddled land of no laws and corruption. It doesn't portray the joyful sensitive side of Thailand and the land of a million smiles. She also said it was disrespectful how they caught a speed boat from Bangkok to Phuket at the end without even a gps to navigate. Similar to this, Borat brought great national shame to Kazakhstan and its a crime to even watch the movie there, I think you can get 10 years imprisonment. It didn't showcase the true country and people and made the locals look like hillbilly plonkers. As an Aussie, self depreciating humour is part of our culture so I totally missed the insensitivities when watching the Hangover II. But on reflection, I do see where the missus is coming from. What do others think and is the Hangover II the Thai equivalent of Borat for local Thais?
  22. Look if you're going to sook at me I want contribute further to this eyesore of a thread. And I don't need to read books, I'm already extremely successful
  23. Bit of a melty thread and I didn't bother reading beyond the first few lines. But I have encountered prejudice and bias when I was mistaken for a western sex tourist at bars. I recieved many dirty looks and felt slightly awkward
  24. Don't tag me alias minnow flog. I don't know who you are and Hua Hin isn't crime riddled
