Boo, first of all congrats on your pending Wedding!  Hey all members of this forum, lets tip our hats to the soon to be Bride!

Going to Penang Thai Embassy in person should be OK for you, just avoid runners or anybody who wants to assist you with your passport

could scaremongers please save their unhelpful posts for some other website or other thread. I am sick of wasting time reading through bullsh*t posted by people.

Also, if you are only guessing about information, please state that when you post it. There are a lot of VERY scared (and rightfully so) foreigners around thailand at the moment reading this website who dont need to read speculations or dubious information from people with too much time on their hands.

Thank you for this post, Best one yet. Great...............

  2. Hi All,

Found this on the Phuket Gazette Web Page:-

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Advantages of residence

I am married to a Thai and we have a five-year-old daughter. I have held a work permit for seven years and have been living in Thailand for eight. What documents do I need to apply for a residence permit? What are the advantages of having one? Where and when can I apply?

Friday, August 29, 2003 Maureen Ezendam, Phuket.

    ------------------------------------------------------

“You may apply for a residence permit if you have a one-year visa that you have extended at an Immigration office [inside Thailand] for a minimum period of three years. If you have been leaving the country every three months for visa renewals, you are not eligible to apply.

The documents required vary depending on the grounds for application.

The residence permit allows you to stay in the country indefinitely. You may not own land or vote, and if you are employed you will still need a work permit.

If you have a residence permit you may come and go from Thailand as often as you please and for as long as you please, so long as you return at least once a year.

The application period begins in late November. Please note that new fees went into effect on August 26. The new application fee is 7,600 baht. If your application is approved, you will be charged 95,700 for the residence book.

Note: Additional information on this topic is available at: http://www.phuketgazette.net/issuesanswers/details.asp?id=24

Friday, August 29, 2003 Pol Capt Krissarat Nusen, Phuket Provincial Immigration Office.

    --------------------------------------------------------

    This is from Kan Win:-

Word of Caution about the above statement.

    --------------------------------------------------------

    Quote from the above:

    --------------------------------------------------------

If you have a residence permit you may come and go from Thailand as often as you please and for as long as you please, so long as you return at least once a year.

    --------------------------------------------------------

    Kan Win:

This is true as long as you have the following:-

    --------------------------------------------------------

This is written on the front of the Certificate of Residence  (in Thai and in English):-

    See page 21

    --------------------------------------------------------

    On page  21

    1. “A Residence Certificate is a permanent  validity but it automatically expires when the holder leaves  Thailand, unless an endorsement has been made and sealed on the document by a competent Immigration Officer at an Immigration Office before departure. If the holder of an endorsed Residence Certificate returns to Thailand within one year from the date of endorsement such Residence Certificate shall still be considered valid.

    -------------------------------------------------------

    end of quote.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Kan Win: It was the “endorsement “ that was not mentioned in this article in the Phuket Gazette. That was my Caution.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Hope it helps someone not to loose theirs R.C.

    Kan Win

    Dear Technical Support,

18 months ago, I upgraded to Girlfriend 1.0 from Drinking Mates 4.2, which I had used for years without any trouble.

However, there are apparently conflicts between these two products and the only solution was to try and run

Girlfriend 1.0 with the sound turned off.

To make matters worse, Girlfriend 1.0 is incompatible with several other applications, such as Lads Night Out 3.1, Football 3pm, and Playboy 6.9. Successive versions of Girlfriend proved no better.

A shareware program, Party Girl 2.1, which I tried, had many bugs and left a virus in my system, forcing me to shut down completely for several weeks.

Eventually, I tried to run Girlfriend 1.2 and Girlfriend 1.0 at the same time, only to discover that when these two systems detected each other, they caused severe damage to my hardware. I then upgraded to Fiance 1.0, only to discover that this product soon had to be upgraded further to Wife 1.0.

While Wife 1.0 tends to use up all my available resources, it does come bundled with FreeSex Plus and Cleanhouse 2002. Shortly after this upgrade, however, I found that Wife 1.0 can be very unstable

    and costly to run.

Any mistakes I made were automatically stored in Wife 1.0's memory and could not be deleted. They then resurfaced months later when I had forgotten about them. Wife 1.0 also has an automatic Diary Explorer and E-mail Filter, and can, without warning, launch TurboStrop and Whinge.

These latter products have no Help files, and I have to try to guess what the problem is. Additional problems are that Wife 1.0 needs updating regularly, requiring Shoe Shop Browser for new attachments and Hairstyle Express which needs to be reinstalled every other week. Wife 1.0 also spawns unwelcome child processes that drain my resources.

These conflict with some of the new games I wanted to try out, warning me that they are an illegal operation. Also, when Wife 1.0 attaches itself to my Audi TT hard drive, it often crashes. Wife 1.0 also comes with a rather annoying pop-up called Mother-In-Law, which can't be turned off.

Recently I've been tempted to install Mistress 2003, but there could be problems. A friend of mine has alerted me to the fact that if Wife 1.0 Detects Mistress 2003, it tends to delete all of your Money files before uninstalling itself.

    Please Help !

    Regards Mr. Desperate.

  4. Hi Thai Sabai,

    but she hardly speaks nglish
Would like to wait until she speaks nglish and I speak Thai better.
Anyone any experience with this sort of problem?

Yes, Her nglish ? What language is this? Better learn more Thai (this will help you a great deal) and do the right thing by her (Tam Boon with all the timmings in a Wat)
