You're absolutely right. IMO we hit the sweet spot sometime in the 90's wrt comms technology, where we could call and send SMS. The introduction of social media allowed for the hate and craziness to be spread by people who suddenly had a large audience, people you never heard from before because they were mostly weirdos just muttering to themselves. Personally, I have a FB account just because I use Messenger to keep in touch with family and friends. I don't have Tik-Tok, Instagram or any of the other major platforms except for Twitter, and that account was opened to follow one particular topic only. And if you think this forum is full of c**p then I advise you to stay well clear of Twitter - it's a sewer. So yes, social media has done/does a lot of damage to society, and it will only get worse.
