  1. "theseveredhead" is right: I never saw these rats at the beachroad before. (yes, near soi 10) But on my last visit in june, I saw dozen of rats at one place. And many people nearby (the rats didnt even try to hide themselves). That is not normal ! I think there are now many big rooms under the footpath. They built it for elecricity, waterpipes etc.. I guess, there are nearly thousands of them in these catacombs. What you see, is just the top of an iceberg....

And the thai people (sorry !) feeding them, throwing the rest of their meals just behind the benches...

wow, beach road is full of rats!! do you think they are dirty ???? what about the girls there??you think they are any cleaner lol??

come on ,wake up ,rats are everywhere.

the only time i was concerned was in carrefour when i saw a rat running from under one pallet to under another on the other side of the rice isle, but did anybodyelse who saw it care??

  2. I've always lived in central Pattaya but am weighing the options. I drive a motorcycle so transportation is not a problem. Some of these housing estates look very pretty and serene. How's security? I do read about the regular break-ins at some estates in between south Pattaya and Jomtien which make me worry. For anyone in the know, what's the pros and cons of the Dark Side? What do you live in and what's your monthly expenses? Thank you.

for me pattaya is a love hate relationship.

i hate some things about pattaya ,walking street ,beach road after dark, farang speaking baby talk , bar girls everywhere

i love the easiness of the place to live in, proximity to bangkok for travel around s.e. asia, ease of finding farang food when i have a desperate need for it (every 3 or 4 weeks ),acess to the beach, less traffic than bkk (where i used to live), and i dont need to waste money on a car or mororbike.so to me living over there negates many positives about the place.

a good friend lives on the darkside, he wastes money on a car for himself and motorbike for his bg(he trades in regularly). wastes money getting home after a night out, his street is full of bargirls ,(i.e. its rarely quiet at night), and their farang boyfriends, its no quieter than central pattaya.

empty houses or places for rent/ sale are becoming more common.(i.e .people getting out)

burglary is much more common on the darkside as well .

his monthly expenses arent much more than mine,(he 2 bed t/h,single story, nice house furnished,) me apartment , fully furnished ,nice place but smaller.but i wouldnt live over there if it was half the price.life on this side of the street is so much easier.

  3. im surprised they caught him.

the western world doesnt get any more naieve and gullible than new zealand.

a Thai person in Blenheim (top of the Sth Island) would be easy to spot and would stand out like dogs b@lls.

NZ does have its fair share of overstayers thou- esp from the pacific islands, now to track them down would be difficult as many of them blend into the community in Sth Akl.

plenty of asians in the horticultural areas, including blenheim, im still surprised they caught him though ,theyre hardly the most worldly wise enforcement agency guys around.

I may have to turn to drugs just to avoid this tedious crap

i thought this was an expat forum?

that is for people who live here in thailand

i cant beleive anybody who lives here and has any grasp of what is going on in the kingdom could be so nonchalant about the social consequences of methamphetamine!!!!! just another tourist i guess

  7. DOH! Just realised that the Airline only flies to London. Just my luck :o

still worth looking into mike. if you can get a 100 quid fare from hong kong, check out virgin trains website.they have cheap train tickets if you book early. i have had 9 quid 1 way euston to man a few times last coupla years.

a cheap trip to hong kong and you are home cheap.

dont listen to the knockers who say its too much hassle.

  8. I had my daughter (c-section) at Bumrungrad in Bangkok and it by far exceeded my expectations about what it would like to have a baby in Thailand. I know that many of my family in Australia were shocked and worried (the ones that haven't visited still have preconceived ideas that this is a third world country) but even my mother was impressed with the how everything was dealt with when she arrived for the birth. My mother even went so far as to say that if I were to have another child, that I should definitely have it here in Thailand again (only at the Bumrungrad :o as the service and care was much higher than many of the top private hospitals back in Australia.

I can't say enough good things about the Bumrungrad, my doctor and nursing staff - and this was not only during and after my pregnancy, but the year before while we were trying to get pregnant in the first place. Our doctor (Fertility Specialist/Gynecologist/Obstetrician) was educated and trained both in Thailand and overseas, spoke fluent english to both my husband and myself - so there were never any issues with language there.

All I can say is, there is no need to worried about birthing in Thailand if you have a doctor and hospital that you are happy and comfortable with :D

nice hospital,we would all go there if we could . how much for the lot ??

  9. It's been an issue long before the military took over, and it's been well documented here and everywhere that the Thai Police (under any government) blocks gambling sites. Do I agree with it? No. Am I really all that worried about it? No, there's much higher things on the priority list.

and as i mentioned in the opening post ,i have never been blocked before today.they have not blocked it before today .today before not blocked .understand???

and the topic is. ...is anybody else having these problems recently.

we can leave out the light hearted bit about the boys in brown being the gestapo if you like.

but i would really like to know if anybody has the same problem recently!!!

i take it thats a no from you then !

  10. So you have hard core pornography on the BBC now?

Censorship is everywhere. The only difference is that different places apply different standards.

you are talking shit. ok perhaps i should have said internet censorship, happy now??

my point was that i am unused to being subject to internet censorship, and if you had any nouse ,you would have understood that.

so you are ok with internet censorship by the military government then ???

  11. anybody else having interference from the gestapo????

Comparing well known internet censorship to the guys who dragged people off to death camps?

You take the whole betting thing a bit too seriously I think. :o

a light hearted comment is obviously lost on some.

internet censorship is ok with you then ????

personally i am not used to being subject to censorship in any form, being from the uk we are free to do what we like with our money unlike our american friends (haha) and some other backward nations.

  12. yesterday i had no access to websites outside thailand , but no problems for thai sites.

today i went to check my ladbrokes account (uk sports betting)and have a nice explanation from the BIB about the site being contrary to the national interest. no problems up until yesterday.

they may be correct lol but this is an account funded by money from overseas to a company overseas!!

anybody else having interference from the gestapo????

Ladbrokes has been blocked by most ISPs for well over 3 years..

i have had no problems until today. i placed a bet only 3-4 days ago. only today was i blocked by the boys in brown.

  14. Aaahh! At last - a REAL reply! Thanks - I'll try jimmy pinkys (weird name!?) very soon :o

Not so fast :D That's where I bought the chair that did the same as yours. One of the back legs snapped in half and in an instant the back of my head had bounced off the tiled floor.:D

Please report back if you find a good chair. I've still haven't bought a replacement, but there were some possibilities at HomeWorks and I intend to go back and have a second look.

    -redwood

im not making any comment on quality.it wont make any difference where its bought,as they dont make them ,merely sell them.

i think most people who live here have probably had the same experience with office chairs(i have ,twice!!)

a chair with a metal base is much stronger, but more expensive also, but that wasnt the op,s question.

  15. Anyone know where I can buy a new base for my completely ordinary office chair? (Made

in Cheepo China, methinks - brand name is "Alta"). :o

The base is cast plastic and has 5 legs & wheels and a hole in the middle to insert the seat

    support.

The blasted thing shattered when I went to sit in the chair, sending

me sprawling across the floor - much to the amusement of the gf. Yes, I SAW her

tittering away in the corner! :D Anyway - I rather like the chair and it's only the base part

that's gone - the rest is quite okay and it seems rather a

shame to throw the whole thing out if I can get a replacement base some place.

Ask at a furniture shop, you may say - and quite rightly, too! And what words of wisdom

did I hear from the totally disinterested staff at the 2 places I went to? "Buy a new chair!"

I'm aware that it's the throw-away mentality these days, but I still get bugged about throwing

stuff out which is only "slightly injured", but definitely not completely "dead". :D

    Thanks for any good advice.

try jimmy pinkys. large furniture place ,north side of pattaya klang , between carrefour and foodland.have seen there before down the back.

  16. Absolute rat hole in the middle of nowhere.

Fine if you wish to live 'Thai Style' and have no other choice.

Built to Thai standards as in nothing works.

Home to many Thai families living up to 20 to a 28sm unit.

If local 'color' is your bag then by all means go ahead but make sure you have plenty of antibiotics handy.

middle of nowhere !! city side of sukhumvhit,10 mins walk to carrefour pattaya klang.30-40 baht on a motobike taxi to the beach i would guess.

nothing works!! are you sure ?? or just slagging the place off??

home to many thai families!! how strange ,this is thailand after all :o wouldnt it be terrible if you have to live near them!!

20 people living in a 28 m2 room ?? somehow i think youre just talking shit.
