  1. im sure its not my thing, have never been ,but i know a couple of old guys who go every time.its more of a morning out thing for them. its where they choose to get their information from ,after all they cant speak thai, they cant ask the organ grinder, so they have to ask the monkey.they are just a couple of happy old retired guys who like to live in the sun where they can have a cheap shag now and again.they would think sitting in front of a computer for information(also often from the monkey) was pretty strange (no human interaction). they are no more or less boring than most farang i have met in pattaya.

  2. Yesterday we found a very small kitten in the Foodland carpark we saw it when we went in to shop and it was still there in the same place when we came out, we thought it was dead but it wasn't. It is absolutely tiny (fits in to the palm of my hand) and still has its eyes closed. We looked for its mother or any other kittens but there were none around and I asked the carpark attendant but he could not help.

I could not leave it in the carpark on its own in the rain so I picked it up and took it to the vet. The vet said it is less than 2 weeks old because it still has its eyes closed. We have some fomula milk from the vet and it is feeding from a small bottle and it is quite healthy and active.

The problem is we already have two dogs and another cat and two children and I can not really look after it the way it needs (it should still be with its mother obviously) it needs feeding every 2 to 3 hours.

Is there anyone out there prepared to take it? (very pretty little thing)

I do not need any comments that I should have left it to die in the carpark or any other comments about letting it die I am not the kind of person but anyone that can help me out it would be much appreciated, the dogs are driving me crazy, I think they want to eat it.

Of course it should be with its mother.not much chance of that now that youve taken it home!!!

Perhaps the mother would have found it herself,no chance of that now youve taken it.

Im not saying your intentions werent good ,but i think you should have left it and let nature take its course.

  3. Yea but think about this!

You might be that unlucky sucker coming home from visiting your family & friends & find out when you come home you're ole lady

sold your house & hit the bricks.

I made a poor mistake in judgment in the States & got talked into being partners on foreclosures.

I made a killing on the 5th one a man & a lady pulled up as I was showing the house to another couple.

The lady wrapped herself & begged me to let her buy back the house with payments as it was all they ever had in the world & would give me 15 % on top of what I was getting.

How would you feel if this happened to you?

it turned out my partner & I separated ways & he sold the house anyway.

Good for him He made a ton. Later his Karma will catch up with him & if he gets cancer a person like that I highly doubt would have anyone to visit him on the way out.

Hmmm lets see a rich prick or someone who is liked!

You can always make money but Blood money, I would rather see you selling illicit things & not living off others misfortunes.

    think about that!

If the man comes home & wants to sell Buy Buy Buy. But to screw over someone for a buck.Come on we didn't move to Thailand to knowingly Shyster people?

    Get a conscience!

Money not the most important things. friends are way more important, at least you will have someone to console you if things get rough or they can bury you in your Ferrari & lack of self respect! It's not only about how you perceive yourself but how others perceive you as well. I would rather be viewed as a stand up kind off man than as a Prick! An act of kindness begets kindness & vise versa.

    Beardog

wake up to yourself and the town you live in!!! its not about stiffing other people. is he being stiffed ?? because its not HIS to sell ,IT IS HERS!!!! she is likely just another pattaya wh##e who has sucked in a fool to buy her a house. somebody will get a cheap house ,if one person doesnt buy it ,somebody else will. karma has f### all to do with it.

  4. And after the hurricane in the Oman - this is what should happen to all Ronald's places

    McD.doc

Don't tell that to the hundreds of millions of Ronald's supporters worldwide. note: I'm not one.

There are obviously sound reasons for their success.

I can’t believe how naïve some people still are about McD’s success and indeed the success of many other “copycat” fast food outlets.

To suggest that they are clean or wholesome is just not correct.

They are styled and designed to set the customer at ease and the food is produced as quickly and cheaply as possible; it is the absolute bottom line of what they can get away with….essentially they are purveyors of salt, sugar and fat laced with flavour enhancers.

Their success doesn’t come from their product it comes from sophisticated marketing strategies and huge amounts of capital (and slush funds?) that are used to buy up real-estate and put any competitors out of business using loss leaders and mass advertising aimed largely at children. We’re talking psychologists, designers, sociologists and of course high finance….but not food.

In developing countries parents with a growing income find it incredibly difficult to deny their children food as they or their parents frequently have experienced going short of food or even famine at first hand. Furthermore being able to be seen affording McD’s and their ilk is another factor in selling this worthless product. – Bear in mind that in Thailand McD’s and KFC etc are nowhere near the cheapest food you can buy.

If you want examples of food poisoning at McD’s just Google it…. You’ll get plenty of hits. Remember Taco Bell a few weeks back with the video of hundreds of rats running around?

i could not agree more. anybody who thinks 199 baht to some global corporation is "good value " obviously doesnt live here ,or if they do they are in their own little bubble. some people should get out more in the country they supposedly call home.

  5. this will get everybody going ,it will probably be deleted by mods ,BUT IT IS A FACT !!!!!!!!!

Pattaya is full of sex tourists and ladies of the evening (dont want to upset bronco) lots o guys are sucked in, but the FACT is ,if its in her name it is HERS. if you dont buy it somebody will, all your good intentions and conscience will not stop this guy from being fleeced, she is what she is ,DO I NEED TO SPELL IT OUT?? there will be another plane full of idiots arriving tommorow ,shes laughing all the way to the bank.if you dont buy it somebody will.

  6. today i bought a few games(cd-rom) for a friend overseas.he had given me the names of a few to find for him.on getting home i decided id try one of them and loaded into my pc. well it appears to run perfectly except it runs upside down!! ive never seen any program do that before! is there a simple reason/solution for this,or should i just throw it in the rubbish bin?

  7. i just cant understand why people use these companies. what is wrong with just going yourself??? i understand that some newbies probably need there hands holding ,but once you understand the border routine ,its hardly rocket science. benefits include going at a time of your choosing, much cheaper and no waiting at the border for a van full of people to sort their shit out.

    :o Do you drive yourself?

Yes it is cheaper but rarely less time to do it on your own if you are using public transportation. Not however THAT much cheaper when you balance out NOT having to deal with the Cambodian side of the border. Clear exit immigration at the Thai side of the border ... hand the Jack Golf employee your passport ... go sit and have a meal and a drink ... maybe play the slots for 20 minutes ... then walk back over .. clear the Thai side again .. sit on a better bus than the public ones ... and ride back to town.

Add to that if I NEVER see Poipet again that will be a very good thing!

i didnt say quicker JD. quicker at the border , yes,but not for the whole day,i used to use the bus if i just wanted a 30 day.have used the train ,very cheap ,but a long day. i just find it much nicer than being told go here go there,i dont like having my hand held. have to agree about poipet ,though thankfully havnt had to resort to that for a few years.

  8. i just cant understand why people use these companies. what is wrong with just going yourself??? i understand that some newbies probably need there hands holding ,but once you understand the border routine ,its hardly rocket science. benefits include going at a time of your choosing, much cheaper and no waiting at the border for a van full of people to sort their shit out.

  9. Just got back from Poipet Cambodia (Aran in Thailand side) for

    Total Cost:

Bus from my house to Lumpini 8 Baht

Bus 200 (Round Trip, used the same bus company)

    Cambodia visa: 1000

    Cambodia Tea Money 200

Bus from Lumpini back home 8 baht

    Total of 1,416 Baht

    Nicely done!

Why don't you try carrying a US$20 bill with you next time to pay for your Cambodian Visa. That'll save you 320 baht.

if you need to do it on the cheap and can afford the time, get the cambodian visa at the embassy and then no hasle at the border. i tried a couple of times a few years ago to pay cash 20 usd at at poipet and koh kong ,but no luck. having the visa beforehand works.

  10. Goal posts change - and that is a soveriegn right of any country to do that...whether we like it or not. Nations do so to protect their national interests, and their national interests don't necessarily align with what what is ones personal interests.

I think, to be pefectly fair to people here, from what I see the 90/180 day rule has been applied haphazardly, with little consistency...at least in the intial phase. When goal posts change, the RTG isn't exactly the best manager of disemination of information, nor of consisent application.

On the other side of the coin, I also think that people are unfairly thinking that the change of rules is somehow designed to deter farangs here. I think it is grossly unfair, uninformed and somewhat egotistical to think that the RTG is somehow targeting the poor little white man. It simply isn't.

I think the core reason for the reforms, was to clamp down on the ability of undesirables - read terrorists - to basically come and stay in Thailand indefinetly. Hambali was a huge wake up call to the lax system of immigration governance. Whatever you say about transperency and democracy here, the last thing the Thai goverment wants is their country to be a haven or easy hiding ground for terrorrists and other criminals. The geopolitical situation in SE Asia has changed...Indonesia and the relative instability there is a huge concern to all its neighbours.

I think the second reason was to formalise the system some more. Thailand had perpetual visa runners who while not breaking the law, were definetly undermining the spirit of the law. For the most part, any nation needs to know who is within its borders and for what reason - especially long termers. Visa running meant that a significant minority of people were basically out of sight of the Thai govenment. In a country where everyone has an ID card and a permanent house registration, and any legitimate long term stayer has to report every 90 days, under the radar visa runners were clearly unacceptable.

These restrictions forced people who wanted to be here into making a choice. They either had to leave, or make Thailand their permanent home under a number of categories, whether it be Work Permits, Business ownership, Spousal stay, retirement, or guardian of a Thai national. In otherwords, you were out if you didn't have a family link to thailand, or you weren't prepared to regularise yourself in the Thai economy (by not just spending money, but being proactively creating value to the Thai economy - and paying tax). As far as I can see, this is the standard that most governments hold, espeically governemnts in countries most of us hail from.

But hold on you say....the Thai government is splitting up families? Really? How?

As far as I can see, especially on the family front, laws were RELAXED to allow easier terms of stay, especially for foreign male spouses married to Thai's. How is that you ask? Well for starters, instead of the foreign male having to earn 40K per month, the burden has been spread so that it applies to husband/wife combined income.

How unfair you might protest! What right does Thailand have to tell me that I MUST be able to support my family??!!?? Well in fact it has every right. And if any of you find yoursleves in the position of shipping your family back home to your own countries, you can be very sure that your home government is going to require that YOU (not your wife) provide evidence that you are able to support your family - usually without recourse to public funds/welfare.

But you doth protest more! 40,000 baht? Why 40,000 baht ($1300, 900 Euros, 600 pounds). A MONTH? Just a personal opinion, but if you going to have a life here, save for a retirement, send your kids to a half way decent school so they get a good start in life, pay for medical insurance etc etc...then 40,000 baht is a ridiclously low amount per month to support a family. But that is a personal opinion.

But dammit you say, I'm not married...how can I stay? Well, get a job in a capcity where you can contribute to the economy to help in grow. I know plenty of people who come here and do well for themselves, but they get out there and hunt around and do wind up with jobs. Unlike other countries, Thailand doesn't restrict the overall numbers of work permits issued. But, please, have a skill which is useful.

But I work for myself! Well that is fine too, start a business, provide some employment to Thai's...and off you go. It is possible, and there are thousands of farangs here successfully doing the same thing.

Thailand isn't in the business (anymore) of letting people just come and set up shop...especially the ones who aren't wanting to formalise their stay. But, if you are likely to be economically productive, or show that you have the basic capcity to support your family, then I don't think the rules are too unfair at all.

an excellent post which hits the nail on the head.

  11. What about the BOI investor category? I'm not sure if this still exists. But the website here:

    http://www.thaiembdc.org/consular/con_info...it/rest_pm.html

seems to indicate that PR is possible for those who invest in Thailand, AND where actual employment/personal tax returns are not required.

So . . if I invest in a business and provide all relevant documents to indicate company tax payments etc etc bla bla bla . . . I would be able to apply for PR via the BOI?

    Right or wrong?

    Simon

why not simply go to immigration and TALK TO THEM !!! probably quicker than the amount of time spent on tv.

  12. everybody seems to prefer the extremely frequent ,very convenient ,reasonably cheap, extremely unpredictable ,very rude, reasonably dangerous sawngthaews(baht buses to most here)why would they catch a bus :o

  13. :o

as a follow up, i callied the numbers that were given to me but no one spoke english at two numbers and no one answered the third, decide to follow-up on the tourist police and go to the police station on soi 9, they said they don't get involved in disputes concerning fares and that i should call the cooperative, i told that i did that but no one speaks english according to the lady who answered the phone at the cooperative.

the police man started to laugh realizing the problem i was facing he then said he would send two (yes two) policemen to help with the language issue, the cooperative is near soi 16 in nacklau if anyone needs to file a complaint, when i got there the police were already there, we went in and the police described my problem to three of the eight people working the office, as it turned out three of the people spoke decent english and i was able to communicate with them with no problems, i told the police they could leave as they had more pressing issues.

the driver in question was called in and it took him 40 minutes to get back to the cooperative, once there, he was sat down in a chair and for the next five minutes each of the cooperative people asked him question after question, the poor guy wasn't really a jerk he actually seemed to be an alright guy but it was his wife who ripped off my buddy and me for 20 baht and i wasn't going to let the big mouth get away from it.

afer the questioning they went to this board that showed the fines that drivers pay for thing like not having your their picture posted (200 baht) and over charging farangs (200-500), the cooperative told me that since he was new at the job and it was really his wife that created the stir he would only get the 200 baht fine, i said fine everyone at the cooperative shook my hand and the manager told me not to hesitate to notify him should a similar incident happen again.

when all was done and said i felt sorry for the driver he was a real qiute type guy who had the misfortune to be married to a greedy big mouth women, the complaint system is not good here most tourist would never give up three hour of there vacation to settle a 20 baht dispute but there was a princepal here and having time on my hand i decided to go for it, any way hope this information is helpful to some of you, thanks again jingthing

    jasper

did you see him pay a fine?? who is the fine paid to?? or is it just easier to bullshit the farang and he will go away happy? did you get the money back by the way ??im not trying to stir anything up ,just wondering who polices the co operative?

  14. ...Although, I did meet her in Pattaya and she isn't a bargirl.

If I had a satang for every time I head that line ... :D

Not that there's anything wrong with being a bar girl, I know an equaly number of girls happily married to farangs both here and abroad who are having a great marriage regardless of her background. it's just that so many people won't face reality.

Btw, Jai Dee means "good heart" in Thai. Having Jai Dee is is one of the most coveted qualities for most Thai girls so I'm not surprised you'll find a bar with this name.

:D me too phil id be a rich man.best one i heard was she was selling boiled eggs on the beach :D

were thos ferilized or over upside down :o

:D her eggs had been given a thorough fertilizing by all and sundry :bah: it was never a beleivable story, the long painted fingernails and toenails gave it away!!

  16. I did my run at Baan Laem and I just paid them US20. When stamping my entry stamp, the guy asked me for 100 Baht and I asked him "Why must I pay" and he replied that "you ask me why" and I simply responded by saying "Yes, why?" and he kept quiet after that.

It's just like when the visa run operations in Pattaya ask my Filipino GF for 100 - 200 baht for her stamp (she doesn't require a visa). One visa run operation (if you need the name I'll gladly PM you the details) claims that Cambodian visas cost 1,200 baht ($35).

I suppose this is to justify their 2,400 asking price including a breakfast (70% local baked beans).

the price will always be over the odds for those requiring their hands to be held through the process, and as pattaya has plenty of those people, the visa run companies will continue to charge more than the service is worth.as for paying in dollars/baht,i have had serious arguments before at aran and had lek about paying in dollars.cambodian officials demanding payment in baht to get there share. the fail safe way is get your visa in advance at the embassy . this is by no means suitable for all though.

  17. No extra pages for us Brits :D

Dont' forget to order the larger (48page?) passport, particularly if you make a habit of visiting Cambodia on your visa runs.

I believe 48 page passports have been stopped. Can anyone confirm this? I got one last year. :o

There'll also be a lot fewer visa runs to Cambodia but that's another story! :D

i also use uk 48 page.i havnt heard anything about them being stopped but wouldnt surprise me,ssems to be a huge money making exercise for the govt.isnt that long ago the larger passport was 90 page .the excuse for doing away with them was they were to big to be computer readable, which sounds like <deleted> to me.cant imagine what the reason could be to do away with the 48 page version.

  18. ok punters,

im going to open myself up to a good slagging off here but thats perfectly ok by me as im ready for it.

i was reading a thread on the forum where some posters were giving farangs that were the yellow shirt on mondays a good kicking.

i'll tell you all why i wear the yellow shirt on mondays and i would like to hear some feed back from the thais on this forum or from farang's that have thai wives and what there wives think about this issue.

as you all know, ive been comming to los for 20 years and respect thai people, thai culture and the royalty in particular.

i love to see the thais wearing there yellow shirts on monday, as the respect it shows for the royal family impresses me no end and no western royal family seems to come near this level of respect.

i have always been under the impression that for myself to wear the yellow shirt is showing that i also respect the royalty and traditions of los.

i feel good wearing the colours on mondays and many thai people have complemented me on my appearance and i have always felt i was doing the right thing.

im a decent looking guy and make sure im dressed ok on a monday so i cant be accused of being a farang looser taking the piss.

ive never thought that i could be viewed as a farang looser until i read some of the posts on this forum.

in conclusion i would like to know what the general consensus is on this issue.

but i got to tell you punters, if you give me a good kicking im still going to wear my yellow shirt on mondays. :bah:

    bring it on people. :D

without a doubt the king is a greatly respected man and the thais love him. i am wondering how you feel about your own queen terry?? elizabeth is also a great woman and has done many worthwhile things in her life. how do you show respect to her ? do you wear a union jack t-shirt once a week??

cricky's mate, im a bloody dinky dye aussie bleeder and dont wear no ###### union jack. :D

but i do like the queen as i think she's a cracking sort and i do have top respect for her.

old charlie is a bit of a worry though. :D

like it or not she is your queen .why do you feel the need to wear a yellow shirt for the king of thailand ?whats wrong with a union jack once a week for liz?? havnt you got a ****** union jack on your flag ? :D

mate, i love the old queen lizzy but in not to keen on the union jack.

its not yellow and the lager louts that wear it dont look as good as the cracking thai girls that wear the yellow shirts. :bah:

hows that for a brilliant point of fact that cant be denied. :o

im not asking thai girls why they feel the need to wear it terry,im asking you !

  21. Hippo- what do you think Thais do in a small town in the US when they see each other? Do they most typically avoid each other? Of course not, they look, evaluate whether Thai or some other East Asian, and then ask the person, generally in Thai, if they're Thai. If so, they typically chat and get together to eat, even if one is a former bar girl from Isaan and the other teaches Thai at the university.

You're just too cool. Sorry if the fellow farangs taint your experience.

The other kind that make my blood boil is the type that is ashamed to admit he's an American or who feels the need to apologize for America and Americans to help him fit in with other expats. Sad.

who cares what thais do in small town america? the question is cultural cringe.if hippo is embarrased by some farang here thats his business.most who live here will feel the same at certain times ( i certainly am),just that we all cringe at different things.as for americans apologising for america(i presume you mean your govt foreign policy)well that just shows youre not all stupid :D

Of course it his business, but he actually said he is he doesn't mix with ANY westerners.

I am from WNW of BKK. I do not mix with any Westerners, I cross the street to avoid them. When i was teaching, I was often invited to go out for drinks after work - Sorry, but I have been here with you for the past 8 hours and that's enough for me. Anti-social? No, very, very particular!

Just wonder why he is a member of ThaiVisa if he is so ashamed of us :D

Of course being from Bolton, and therefore extremely cultured, I never do anything cringeworthy :o

i am also extremely cutured ,being kearsley born, but do accept hippos comments. maybe he just uses the forum for information and a little venting of frustration(as many of us do) and i do agree with him ,it is not about being antisocial, its about being carefulwith who you trust. there are many dodgy farang here, i for one was blackmailed by a swiss guy a few years ago,and it was nothing dodgy ,just belongings which he had away, documents etc. but he made my life very difficult as i couldnt prove anything or find out where he was staying. i trust nobody.
