investing in better services and in flight entertainment, etc. some time back would have been a better option for THAI, but that would have been long term thinking with a vision...
let them go bust, they deserve it. Other regional players will replace them and make up for the loss of jobs.
same story as for the car makers in the US, decades of arrogance and incompetence.

Angelini at the Shangri-La have zeppole on their dessert menu. They serve them with ice cream and a kind of fruit salad.

Moving again to be posted in another country, India this time.
Considered opening an offshore current account to avoid the opening and closing of accounts at every move.
Any experiences to share or advise for me ?
please define "offshore current account".
an offshore account meant for handling daily expenses worldwide, with credit and debit card

I'm putting an inventory together of all the albums. All the asterix seem to be very first editions (starting in 1961). Checked on a Belgian auction website, some of these pieces went for an amazing 2000 Euro. But I have no idea where to go with these books in Bangkok. If they're really worth that price, I might as well pay some overweight and birng them along the next time I travel to Europe....
As for the stamps, it's a bit more delicate. Like you say, it's quite difficult to control what the expert's been doing, unless you stay with him during the whole process, which could be time consuming.

Got a collection of old, international stamps in perfect state and would like the lot to be valuated by an expert.
Any contacts or addresses in Bangkok ?
Also, some orginal edition, hard cover, original language (French) Tintin and Asterix albums ?
Thanks

Just got my tourist visa approved.
Our company agent took my passport, an updated picture, hotel booking and return ticket to the Chinese embassy.
I didn't even have to show my face.
Got the visa 3 days later.
Fee : 1,100 Baht
(I'm actually going on a business trip, working at the Beijing branch of our company for 10 days, but was told a tourist visa is much easier to obtain right now...)

Just came back from the EENT clinic at BNH.
After 6 weeks of antibiotic medication for treating chronic infection of my sinuses and an additional CT Scan, doctor tells me he'll need to proceed with surgery to get rid of some polyps and remaining mucus.
He explained that it will take a 3 hour operation and that I'll have to stay 2 nights/3 days in the hospital under observation.
I thought sinus cleaning was minor surgery that didn't even involve staying overnight....
Any thoughts, experiences ??
Thanks

Because they all use the same, cheapest (and most un-healthy) ingredients on the market.
Best pastries, cakes, breads are found only in places catering to wealthy foreigners (4-5 star hotels, luxury food franchises,...) but still far below quality in Europe.
And yes, superficiality seems to be a standard ....

Since HD is low quality but well marketed, it has always been a rip off, nothing new here.
Far too sweet and too buttery.
Their vanilla ice cream doesn't even contain vanilla seeds, only flavoring, but is far more expensive than let's say Movenpick, who's using at least one vanilla pod per liter of milk.
On the other hand, prices for all dairy products worldwide are out of control. That might justify their decision to increase prices.

Try Cyan at the Metropolitan hotel on Sathorn.
Not an attractive restaurant, but definitely the best fine dining food I've had in Bangkok in a long time.
Enjoy

I bought a PURE water filter from Home Pro a few years ago for our well water, it has 3 filters plus an ionizer and UV light to kill bacteria. We now live in the city and still use it replacing the filters once/year. Water tastes fine and no illnesses that i can contribute to the water. I was thinking of upgrading to a reverse osmosis machine but not sure how much better they are or if it removes too many beneficial minerals.
Bagwain,
If iron is the problem, what's the solution ? Also, is this common for all Thailand or only for certain regions ?

I'm a Belgian national, married to an Indonesian national (with no Belgian passport), we have 2 small children who both have Belgian and Indonesian nationality.
Haven't been in my home country for a long time and can't really check on the law, but accordng to my parents I do not need to write a will because if anything happened to me, all my possessions would automatically be transfered to my wife.
Anyone out there familiar with Belgian inheritance laws who could give me a word of advice on this and confirm if this is correct, even if my wife does not have Belgian nationality ? Appreciate.
