  1. Hi all,

It seems like many of people here are still trying to understand Thailand and its people. Here is a few things you can see how good Buddhist Thais' perspective in life is. I use "good Buddhist Thais" beacause not all Thais are Buddhist (which is fine) and many Thais who claim they are Buddhist aren't really good Buddhist (just want to make it clear).

The reason I bring this up is beacause most of Thais base their life on Buddhism teaching, although it's kinda fading away nowaday in big cities. So you might understand something like... why do I have to support my wife's family and such?

If you think you already understand Thais and if you want, you can try some of these yourself. It will definitely make your life better AT LEAST in Thailand.

Or if you don't really care what I mentioned above, you can just listen to the music. Come on, you can dance with me.

Just read along the subtitle (it's a Thai music video with English subtitle)

    here's the link:

    http://www.jabchai.com/main/view_joke.php?id=7767

Aftert you have watched it, please tell me which one you like the most and which one you don't like the most. I just want to how Farangs think.

ps. the reason I didn't put this thread in Buddhism section is because I don't want to see it as a religious but a way of life/cultural thing, although Buddhism itself is a way of life already. If one of the mods want to move this thread to Buddhism, please feel free to do so. :o

  2. I have the same dream. I am not there yet.

I dream like... when I come home from work, my kids would say something like "daddy's home, daddy's home!"

Life would be great to have somebody to live for, wouldn't it?

  3. I really have nothing to add on since it looks like your bf is standing up for you already. And that is what really counts in my opinion. Most of the time, Thai parents can be pretty controlling. Your bf has some balls (sorry for the language) to let them know the boundary he has set.

But in my Thai family, they don't have the value of thai-marry-thai or the-rich-marry-the rich thing. But again I am no chinese thai. The point is some are cool with it and some are too narrow minded to deal with it.

To sum up, don't give up trust in your man and see what he can do.

  4. Daidomon maybe?

I went there longgggg time ago with friends when I was in college. All you can eat BBQ: beef, chicken, pork, rice, nice sauce etc. I can't remember it but Thai students can afford it. So it must not be expensive. So check it out.

Daidomons are usually in major Malls.

PS. don't eat too much. Otherwise, suffering will pay you a visit. :o

  5. That's really sweet of you, boxingbeauty.

If you would like to hear a guy's opinion, I have one to contribute.

One time I dated one girl, she gave me a gift, a hand-made gift she made. It was a bunch of hand-made flowers in a small vase. She told me that I needed something to bright up my room and also to remember her whenever I came back from work. She was right. My room looked way better and every time I looked at the flowers I was thinking about her effort she had put into that gift.

Although later we broke up, I still keep it in my room at the same place she put it. Every time I look at it, it reminds me how sweet she was and what a gesture she made. :o

Maybe you might consider a self-made gift. It really touches the receiver.

  6. I hate these commercials. :o

haha well I am a total brown. When there's one of these commercials came up, I switched the channel. One time, all the channel were having them. I was running around in a circle. I ended up turn the TV off. (Most of the shows on Thai tv are stupid anyway)

These silly creams are huge money maker (sucker) here.

Hot chicks are still hot chicks not matter what color they are. :D

  7. I am not the only farang in the family, my wife's mother is married to a Swedish man and 2 of her cousins (aunties) are married to farangs. 1 is married to a man from the UK as i am from the UK myself, and the other is married to a man from Switzerland, who is really a big joke.

When i first came to live in the village with my wife and daughter it was ok, the guy from the UK told me that i would have problems as the auntie that is married to the Switz guy thinks that she is the big money lady in the village because she has good money as she is married to the guy from Switzerland.

I have a good job and i make good money as i work offshore, it is as if she is loosing face now as the villagers know i have big money more than her and her husband( as far as the villagers are concerned i do have big money) but i do not through my money around, yes i will help people if i can.

Now they are trying to brake me and my wife's marraige up, he is as bad as her, i think his problem is is that she is making him spend more money than he can afford to try and make it look to the villagers like they have as much money as us. It is pathetic really, and my wife knows what is happening , so we just sit and laugh about it. I am a bit worried though as i can see it coming to a head, and i am going to lose my rag with them.

Until then i will only laugh at them.

Well guesthouse you did say to be brutal and honest.

I would rather not have farang in the family as i have noticed nothing but jealousy, from the Thai and farang.

    Cheers Geordie

I think the problem here is not farangs, but that big face auntie. Cut her out of the equation, I guess the story will be happier.

  8. It is said that a car with that kind of thing with it under the rear means it has killed someone in an accident. People put those stuffed animals/dolls to lure the soul they killed. (That's what I have read)

i find that difficult to believe, just from the sheer number of these i see. Can anyone corroborate?

I didn't know it either until about month ago. I think this is new for Thai, too since some thai friends of mine told me that it's from Japan.

  9. Hi Bambi,

Hmmmm. getting frustrated about being single?

Yes you can take care yourself very well, cooking and cleaning your house, changing tubes/bulbs

But there is a thing missing am I right?

    Sharing moments of love.

It could be sitting on the beach watching the sunset.

    Or doing the laundry together.

Bambi you are a nice person but also a bit dangerous.

That is why men not want to be with you.

AlexLah, are you on mind altering substances or something? From what I've read on this forum, at least 90% of the guys on here would give their right arms to be with BambinA, dangerous (?) or not. OK, poll results just in - it's 98.1%! Maybe you've got her mixed up with me...? :o

So why is she still alone, why do those guys not wanna be with her na?

She is a beautyfull girl and a clever one, but dangerous as she is always looking for something better.

Well, I think both men and women have right to look for something better.

But after all, you have no right to judge her like that.

  10. I cook Thai food a lot for myself, almost everyday. I am really careful about content of food I consume each meal. So, here are my tips.

People who have heart attack or artery problems should avoid coconut milk (once in a big while is not gonna kill you), fat from land animals such as pigs, cows, chickens (fish oil is very good for you in term of heart problem), PALM OIL, high sodium stuff like salt (NaCl). Avoid sweet treat coz it will bring you Diabete (well I shouldnt say this coz people know all about the sugary thing)

As for (deep) fried food, if they fry it with fat from animals like pigs, that's is a big no no. Be careful when somebody say they use vegetable oil. Ask them what kind of vegetable. 95% will turn out to be palm oil which is really bad for you.

Thai food is good but not all Thai food is good for you. Many Thais are facing heart attack also.

Know your food and know what people put in your food. It will make you enjoy food longer. :o

ps. I just started my blog. It's also about food.
