The MG Extender is a rebadged SAIC-Maxus.

Like almost all export-market Chinese vehicles it is built with licenced Western technology.

Almost all SAIC-MG-Maxus-Roewe products are based on General Motors designs.

The 2.0 petrol are the GM/Opel MGE engine. 2.4s are Mitsubishi units.

2.0 Diesel is a slightly modified GM Family B engine (much the same as in Chev Cruze 2.0TDi). The 2.8 Diesel is an Italian VM Motori that was designed for GM and built under licence.

The six speed auto is a rebadeged GM 6L50 - GM licenced this to Punch Powerglide (a Belgian company who operate the old GM Strasbourg transmission plant) and Punch then sub-licensed to Shaighai Auto Gearworks (SAGW) who build the boxes from kits supplied via BorgWarner (China) in Dalian.  The manual transmissions are Aisin (Toyota) units made under licence.

I think these MG vehicles are OK as a product. However my knowledge and experience of MG on the UK market is one of poor spares availability, poor technical back-up and failure to take ownership of known problems (i.e. timing chain problems on the SGE engine).  Of course the Thai market might be handled quite differently, I really don't know.  But keep in mind that the cost of a vehicle is its depreciation (purchase price - disposal value).  My advice to family and friends is that if Toyota makes something that would do the job then buy that. Toyota are not perfect but they get it right most of the time.

    Great info, thanks!

Haven't been to this one but I usually buy cars from the motor shows.

-- you get a bigger discount if you have credit - they don't like cash, so make that clear up front

-- you have to push really hard - their first offer is probably half of what they can do

-- all the sales gals in (for example) the Toyota stand will be from different dealerships - don't be afraid to play them off against each other - chat with one, then go back later and chat with another asking for triple what the first offer was

    Thanks, All good advice!

My missus did go there but she was looking for bags. Was a huge fail. She sat on a bus there and back 12 hours lol and came back empty handed. Sellers were very aggressive and unhelpful. Everyone told her markets there not what they used to be now same retail prices. She has since been told she went to the wrong area. I think its all about finding the right person / contacts. She didn't unfortunately

Thanks! will eventuallly go someday, and can report back my experince here.

There is such a variety with the different code numbers and origin countries it's impossible to give you an answer. Also, what you got once might not be repeated as you are dealing in 2nd hand clothes that might have been sourced from a major city or next time from a provincial town. Good bundles and bad bundles.

    Thanks for info!

Second-hand clothes, normally stored in 100kg bundles. I've purchased wholesale from there. The Rong Klua Market shop stalls are small and the rent higher on the other side of the road so many suppliers keep their stock in the 'Indochina' side of the road. Blazes happen every year there; my guess is a discarded cigarette butt.

Do you mind sharing the price for the 100 kg bundle, second hand clothes at rong kluea?

Shes looking at used bags and I agree with all the work involved, but happy to see she has an interest and Im not investing in the venture so have at it.

Was there any particular day best to go, non weekend. I was thinking maybe a lot of sellers might shut Mondays...or maybe tuesdays no good after selling out on the weekend etc. Appreciate any advice u have

Any update on this? Did you go there and how was the prices on 2 hand clothes by buying bulk? I have seen the clothes in bkk markets before from rong klua selling at 20-60b a piece, very popular and (some) of the clothes looks very ok.

I had a 7 Mx7 M carport built, using 4x4" steel posts with footing, only 2 posts as otherside attached to house. Labor was 25,000thb and they primed all steel and total cost was 47,000thb. I bought all materials. No cement.

I just recently got a labor estimate for a 3x7M shade, 350 thb/sq M. No cement, again I'm using 4x4" steel posts with a footing.

Mine has a 7 M span both ways, the less posts you have the easier parking you'll have, 15 M span you can get by with 3 on each side. The good roofing with the inside insulation cost 150thb/M 3 yrs ago.
