  1. Thai bashing? Maybe you ought to scroll up where I'd just commended them on their solidarity as a people and nation. We'll send the short bus round for you. What was the address again? 4th floor, shophouse on Pattaya soi 5 wasn't it?
  2. Because standing is about the lowest bar imaginable. Any serious damage and the next quake, even settling will ruin the building. Potential collapse. Are you for real?
  3. My thoughts immediately after the quake. Gonna take years to inspect. 200 buildings given ok by dawn. That was an eye roller for me I sent thousands of kids on to best universities here and abroad. I could count the civil engineers on one hand. Architects perhaps a dozen as I can recall Wife tells me online reports: bayoke, elephant bldgs and Posideon all 👍 ok.
  4. I have a serious question for civil engineers and or construction managers. Looking at the building that fell. Given how far along in the construction process (or not) - is it possible that it still did not have some strength built into it and that aided in it's fall? The skeleton/ structure looks complete by my eye. Usually the sides are cheap brick, cement nothing structural.
  5. Not just present in a high building (any building?), but the absolutely random occurrence of while it experiences a quake - in Thailand 🤯 Mental
  6. Well, it claims to be media and is part of a conglomerate with Thaiger news under it as well. Jus sayin
  7. Life. If the only people you come in contact with in Thailand are struggling I probably wouldn't want to come here either. That's not been my experience. Not only that, but even in their struggle they are a good natured lot. I envy thainess and the bonds the nation keeps.
  8. In theory. Conscription here seems to be more about free domestic servants and dubious sexual encounters.
  9. As someone who's lived and traveled in quake zones all my life you simply have no idea when they will hit. Even aftershocks cannot be predicted. Thailand will experience more quakes in the decades ahead - yet, BKK may not see a similar quake in your lifetime. That's the nature of quakes. Nevertheless, one less grumpy old man in BKK can only be a win for expats and locals alike. When will you be leaving aseannnow forum?
  10. Guess we won't be having a beer together on soi 4 then 😂 My wife works on 36fl. Coming down the stairs she said many were totally overwhelmed, crying, frozen. Those people gonna die and or cause chaos. She kept some calmed, moving down. Many in this world simply lack any life skills, mindset to confront emergencies or even change. Funny because rural Thai maybe not so clever but tough.
  11. Ok gramps Whats not or at least has potential of being dangerous in Thailand lol. Everything. That's why we are here. To not just live life, but feel it.
  12. Should have searched it. Thanks. Down, but not out! Company been here since forever
  13. Does anyone know anything about the temples in Bagan, Myanmar? I can't find any recent photos other than some stupas. Maybe take some time. I bet they are finished. After the last big one and repair it was said one more big one and they're done.
  14. I thought ital Thai bankrupt ? Guess not. Thanks
  15. Anyone else have experience with quakes? I went thru four in California as a kid. Two big, two small. One in Sumatra another in Myanmar - both small. The whole thing was very serious event, but I wasn't panicked. I got out as fast as I could. I feel sorry for the Thais. They were utterly panicked - it was a huge quake. My wife, friends still chit chatting about it
  16. You obviously dont live on the line. Dome stations have hundreds of steps. Besides, if it works it works. Yeah, one person has accident so stop using modern, hi quality escalators lol. DMK is red line. Perhaps entirely different manufacturer as well. Your paranoia is misplaced
  17. I read in Post or Nation that miraculously nearly 200 buildings already cleared free of structural damage in BKK 😳😅 Wife's friends reporting to her serious issues with their office buildings. My wife skyscraper?? It's old, so I think ok. Wife's friend in praram9 area lux condo ripped asunder. May have structural damage. Interior and hallway damaged.
  18. Someone here on the forum also identified Ital Thai. I thought it bankrupt?
  19. I did mention they were open. Guess you missed that while jumping to berate me I asked about the stations and yes, they too are underground. There are long escalators in all. I don't fancy walking 200 steps just to go to Big C or whatever thanks
  20. Agreed. I had always said the right place, the right price. 25 years wife could live rent free after my death. Between taxes, transfer hassles, price, general build quality and now potential structural damage. No way.
  21. Anyone live on the blue line below at Pohan Yotin to Sukhumvit? Any damaged stations? I use many of these stations. I understand MRT and BTS running now, but yellow and pink maybe not. Thank you 🙏
