  1. I guess it's possible she could have paid for it. Given 30,000+ USD cost, I would think she would have rather just continued treatment in Thailand rather than pay for it. Especially considering how much cheaper healthcare in Thailand is compared to the US.
  2. A lot of Russian draft dodgers don't want to fight in Putin's war. I'd be doing the same thing if I was Russian.
  3. It wouldn't matter. Almost no Thais want or can afford any of the cars made mostly in the US, so even if the import tax were zero, it wouldn't help the trade deficit.
  4. They made the tariff announcement after the stock market closed. Futures for tomorrow are way, way down.
  5. She's being treated in the US now. Health care in the US is very expensive. If she didn't have health insurance in the US, her expenses will be many times that amount.
  6. Must have. She was already flown back to the US. Given her condition it seems like it must have been a special medical flight.
  7. The IO will only ask if to see cash if you are from a third world country or they are looking for some reason to deny you entry. Still best to carry it just in case.
  8. Congress is supposed to be the one enacting tariffs also. Trump can only do it because he declared an emergency, and the Republic sheep in congress are doing nothing to stop him. He will do the same thing for social security. Declare an emergency, claim there is fraud from international social security payments, then stop them.
  9. I don't think any Americans want to work in sweatshop factories making the cheap junk that Thailand exports.
  10. Not legally as a foreigner. Tourist guide is a protected profession, so only Thais can do it.
  11. Ouch. Good night Thai economy. I doubt these will last long though. When US inflation skyrockets, the republicans in congress might grow a spine and override these.
  12. Definitely wrong about that. Thailand is on Trump's naughty list of countries with the highest trade deficits.
  13. Not cut to zero. Not even close. These are just token cuts for show on items Vietnam imports near zero of anyway. "Import taxes on automobiles, for instance, have dropped from 64% to 50%"
  14. Reverse osmosis filters are usually slow. I would be very skeptical of one where the water comes out fast. I would bet the filter was removed. Bottled water or boiled tap water is much safer.
  15. Personally, I hate travel packages. There is nothing worse than getting off a long flight and then having to wait an hour at the airport for everyone else on your package tour to clear customs before you can get on your bus transfer. Then when you arrive at the hotel, the whole bus gets off and it takes forever to checkin. No thanks.
  16. For sure. It was a Chinese plot. I just can't understand why Trump couldn't figure that out, or if he did, why he let them get away with it.
  17. Um, I guess you didn't know that Ray was a lefty Democrat.
  18. Similar systems are already implemented in many, many countries. Usually the airline will remind you--often before checkin via email, during checkin, and on the flight. If you still forget, there are usually giant signs to remind you before you get in the immigration line. If you didn't complete the form by then, just scan a QR code and it takes a minute or two to complete. It's really not any more complicated than filling out a paper form.
