Others claiming it can be done and in the past as I noticed perhaps, but since 2019/2020 Immigration have been insisting you need to have a Non Immigrant status from a Non O type visa.
There is no written procedure to change from a Non B to Non O at Immigration, the options being to leave and obtain a Non Imm O, or re-enter VE then apply for the change to Non O at Immigration.

Police orders though are ambiguous simply stating Non Imm visa, with no specific type mentioned, so it may have been at their discretion previously, but the goalposts appear to have moved again.

For the record, I changed my Extension of Stay (which originally many years before was a Non-B visa) from employment with a work permit to marriage in late 2021 at CW...Needed an employment termination letter & work permit cancellation document to sort the first part out, then just applied for the marriage extension straight after that before the end of my stay date...From memory the bank funds did have to be in the account for the 2 months prior, which wasn't a problem in my case.

The banks want their customers to be online, they seems to think that bad physical service is the way.
In the future there will be one Samui-branch – probably in Nathon – for each bank and an office in a central mall for limited service. Bangkok Bank has already changed name of the Nathon Branch to Samui Branch – I had to change my paper slip the other day, because I wrote "Nathon" as branch, it should be "Samui"...:whistling:

You may be on to something...Krungsri & Kasikorn bank Nathon branches appear to have changed their name to 'Ko Samui' as well.

I've got my second marriage extension coming up at Samui immigration next month. I went overseas earlier in the year & forgot about doing a TM.30 because I was returning to my same registered address on a re-entry permit. Can anyone confirm whether I will more than likely still be told to submit a new TM.30 when doing the extension?

Just to follow up what I asked here...I went for my extension on Thursday & the officer insisted that I needed to do a new a TM.30 because I left the country...I queried why & got it confirmed by another senior officer as well...Luckily, I had the online app on my phone & could re-register right there at the desk...Then printed off a paper copy downstairs without having to come back later.

If your extension is not approved on the 16th you ask them to cancel your extension and apply for 60 day extension to visit your wife if you you have not gotten one since your last entry with a visa.

If they did 60 day the extension it would start from the day your current extension ended and you would need a re-entry permit to enter the country.

So I have some options, thanks Joe. Do you think I would need to bring & provide the same documents required for this 60 day extension if it becomes necessary to do, as they would have all the paperwork in the office from the yearly extension application?

  6. I applied for my marriage extension on 25 July at Samui immigration. They stamped my under consideration period until 16 September. I've been calling a couple of times a week since the 30 days were up to see if it had be processed (like they told me to do). When I called today it still wasn't ready & was told it may not be done by the 16th either, as they're waiting on the head office confirmation.

That would be 53 days! The problem is, I'm travelling back home to Australia on Monday morning (19th) unitil 27 October & I need something sorted out on Friday.

If it's not ready when I go on Friday, what are my options on keeping the extension alive? Could I get some kind of temporary 60 day extension to tie me over until I arrive back in the country? I planned this long overdue travel shortly after because I never imagined the waiting period would possibly exceed the consideration date.

Appreciate any input on this matter.

    Cheers

Yes but the only thing the local IO does is check if the Documents are correct, if so then the documents get send to Regional HQ for approval. Regional HQ will make the final decision, not your local IO!

That is why you get a "under consideration stamp" in your passport. The decisions can take up to 30 days to come back from the HQ (my longest wait was almost 45 days)

It's not my intention to take over this thread. However, that's interesting it took as long as 45 days for you. I'm currently on a 43 day wait with Samui Immigration (first extension at this particular office). My final consideration date is 16 Sept & when I called to check the progress today, the lady on the phone said it might not be ready until that last day or maybe a bit later! (granted I wasn't talking to a senior officer). I'm travelling overseas for 6 weeks immediately after the 16th, so surely it couldn't go past the final date?

I thought all marriage extensions around the country were approved at Chang Wattana or would this be done at Surat Thani in my case?

The best way to cash out in Thailand is to cash out in Singapore.   No capital gains taxes.  Not to mention a much heartier/more secure banking system that doesn't have news or incidents of rogue bank managers or employees accessing/draining your account.    So basically use any exchange in SG and withdraw to your bank account there.  From there, if you need to buy a Chang at your favourite entertainment venue here in the LOS, use an ATM card to withdraw paper.

So you're saying it's possible to get verified with a crypto exchange & open a bank account in Singapore while your country of residence is Thailand?

    Facts:

    - You can buy and own a car here on any Visa (even tourist exemption stamp) - i.e. own it with a receipt in your name

    - You can register the car at the DLT in your name on any Visa (even tourist exemption stamp) -

    - You will need a Affirmation of Residence  (Proof of Address) document to register a car in your name.

        * Your Embassy may not issue an Affirmation of Residence document without a long term visa (i.e. Non-Imm)

        * Immigration may not issue a Proof of Address document without having carried out a 90 day report

    - You can get a 2 year temporary driving licence on any visa and visa exempt

    - You will need an Affirmation of Residence document (Proof of Address) to apply for a 2 year temp licence

    - You will need a medical cert (from a local clinic) & Copies of passport etc

    - You don’t need an IDP if your home licence is in the English language

*Stories that Immigration issue a Proof of Address document without the 90 day report have been noted by a couple of members on ThaiVisa.com (i.e. the document can be obtained from Chiang Mai Immgration for 500b) by taking a utility bill or rental agreement.

Best advice is to ensure you secure the Affirmation of Residence or Proof of Address documentation before pulling the trigger and making a purchase. You’ll need 2 original documents as copies are not accepted and you’ll need one each for the car registration and one for the licence.

    ------------

Parking - Leave the car at a friends Condo / house or make an agreement when you move to a Condo that you can leave the car there while you are overseas

Just out of interest, do you also need a Certificate of Residence for the car insurance as well?

  10. On 11/17/2020 at 2:56 PM, brianthainess said:

That is mandatory if the car is changing province. No you do not need a letter of residence when buying only when changing owner at land reg office. some will except yellow house book.

So how many Certificates of Residence do you need when buying a new car?

I was thinking one for changing over the new plates at the transport office & one for the car insurance.

So is it none, one or two?

Is anyone running Kayo Sports, the sport streaming app of Foxtel?  Has it blocked VPN's?

I had Kayo running perfectly in tandem with ExpressVPN for the last 12 months. Unfortunately, it came to a grinding holt about 3 weeks ago. I looks like Kayo have recently picked up their game in blocking VPN use. ExpressVPN support haven't been much good either. They say they're on the case with trying to get access back, but with no ETA. So I'm not holding my breath. I couldn't wait any longer, so 2 days I signed up for a month with NordVPN because I heard they got access back to Kayo rather quickly after going down too. The testing I've done so far has shown low quality for live stuff with regular buffering & SD quality for catch up content with minimal buffering. Very disappointing to say the least. In my own experience, ExpressVPN is light years ahead of Nord with streaming quality. I also heard that PIA, CyberGhost & SurfShark still had access, but I haven't tested any of them myself. One thing I have learned from this, is to never buy a long term VPN subscription again. I'll just be sticking with month to month from now on.

    Cheers

Can you use your VPN with Windows? When I look at my VPN and Android, there seems way more servers to access using Windows.

Yes I can, but it doesn't make any difference as ExpressVPN have the same amount of servers for Windows & the Android app (5).

  13. Anyone using the Kayo Sports streaming service with a VPN here? It was running perfectly for me in tandem with ExpressVPN on a daily basis since January, then last week I suddenly got denied access. I assume Kayo have blocked all the vpn's current Australian servers. ExpressVPN support have said they will get me access again & their 'engineers are on the case', however I'm not holding my breath as they didn't give any time frame.

  14. It sounds like LocalBitcoins & Bitkub are the only two alternatives for withdrawing to a Thai bank account? Everyone that used BX are going to have to move another local exchange you would think, so maybe Bitkub's volume will increase with an influx of new users. It seems the one to move over to for now?

So you're having the owner fill out the TM30, and you're just taking care of the mailing it in, right? That's what I plan to do too. And even though it's owner filing, you're including all those documents? Have you seen somewhere that they are required if owner files?
You also mentioned you're waiting for online system approval. Are you mailing in instead because it's been a long wait? I took a quick look at online registration; it's in Thai and I've read elsewhere on this forum that online filing is difficult.

With this method (which I'm doing) are you having the receipt mailed back to your address (in your name) or to the owner? Minor detail, but not really sure.

  16. lol do peeps seriously take a taxi at 4:30am in the morning just so they can be there before 7am? Wow!

My ideal time to arrive at immigration is somewhere in the morning between 10am-11am but that's me.

I went to Chang Wattana last month to do my annual extension of stay. I needed to get it done as quickly possible so decided to get there ridiculously early. The taxi pulled up outside the building at 5:30am. I was sure that I'd be the first person there, but couldn't believe my eyes to see about 15 people in an orderly queue outside the front doors (everyone was let inside the building at 6am). Would you believe the first bloke was there at 4:30 lol. It was worth it though. I got queue ticket no.15 at 7am & when the immigration doors opened at 8:30, got no.1 for my section. Was in a taxi on my way back to work at 8:45. So as you can see, it takes serious commitment to get out of there quickly when going in the morning lol. In the past year, I've seen other work colleagues do their extension of stay & not get it done until the late afternoon because they arrived between 7-8am. The queue outside is huge by then. It's just crazy how busy & slow that place has become.

  17. I got a new Australian passport in Thailand (2 years ago), no letter but they put a note/sticker/stamp in the old passport saying "this is old passport, replaced by number 123456 etc, all visa's remain current etc".
That's what my colleague first provided to the immigration officer, but they wouldn't except it & insisted on a letter. I guess it's just luck of the draw on what officer you get on the day. Pain in the arse really.

When did you renew your passport & receive that letter from the Australian Embassy? I'm asking because a fellow Australian work colleague of mine went through this process a month ago. He had tremendous trouble trying to get this particular letter. He had a few inconvenient & time-wasting trips to both buildings. Immigration telling him he needed a letter & the Australian Embassy saying they dont provide them any more. After his third return trip to the Embassy the Thai consular officer finally gave him a photocopy of a letter from 2014 that stated that they don't provide these said letters lol. Cheers
