Oh and it is no surprise that tourist figures are down. People go to Thailand because they have been told it is the land of smiles. Understandably, they expect to be greeted with smiley, happy faces - but instead they get something that feels like a dystopian B Corp movie. Either consciously or unconsciously, they reject this and decide to go elsewhere. The rest of the world rejected masks a long time ago, and it is high-time Thailand did the same.

Of course I am right, I have eyes. As soon as you land at BKK airport, you are greeted with a sea of faceless slaves in face masks. And then, upon leaving the airport, you see an almost endless conveyor belt of thick taxi drivers driving alone with masks on. Immediately, the place feels like one big mental asylum stuck in a dystopian covid time loop. Many expats cannot accept this, since it challenges the deeply held notion that they have moved to somewhere better. Hence why so many of them perpetuate lies such as "Thais have always worn masks blah blah" even when there is clear evidence which shows this is <deleted>. It's a coping mechanism to obsfucate their obvious delusion.

Only in East Asian countries - go to Europe, and nobody wears a mask, nor have they for 3 years now. My Gran is 90 and even she thinks wearing a mask is a sad way to live life, just shows how weak and pathetic many of the younger Thais and other East Asians are for continuing to wear muzzles at all times in mid-2025.

Yep, Japan is a totally overrated society with so many social problems

Masks are for cowards and the mentally ill. I was fine with masks for a couple of years, but anyone who wears one now is a complete coward. Simple as that.

That is simply not true - nowhere near that many people wore masks before covid. I went to Thailand before 2020 and hardly saw anyone in masks, nowhere near 30% - there are tonnes of videos online that back this up. You are either lying to cope with the fact you live among brainwashed covid cowards who don't have the guts to live a normal life again, or are utterly deluded.

Health Six Dead as Covid Cases Surge in Thailand
MaskLover2025 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand, Japan, and Vietnam are the only countries in the world that still care. Hong Kong is pretty bad too. These people are addicted to fear and anxiety, incapable of living a normal and psychologically healthy life. I came back to Thailand for the first time in a while the other day, and I am simply disgusted by what I see; everywhere I go, I just see brainwashed cowards in face masks - it is utterly pathetic on so many levels. I utterly despise these people. Thankfully, it is only a short trip and I am off again in a few days, but my heart goes out to the rational, uncowardly expats who will most likely have to endure this atmosphere for the rest of their time in the Kingdom. -
It's not a hoax, but the reaction to the virus in East Asian countries is disproportionate to the severity of the situation. There is nothing about the current situation that warrants swathes of people walking around in shopping malls like mindless robots with their beloved muzzles on. You never see anybody in Europe or South America wearing muzzles these days, not even older people. Just proves that East Asians are weak, cowardly, docile, and sheepish. Sorry not sorry.

What a miserable country Thailand has become - everywhere you go, you see frightened and miserable-looking people in muzzles. It is pathetic and makes a mockery of their whole Land of Smiles schtick. So glad I don't live there anymore. Majority of Thais are brainwashed cowards.

Why Stop Now? The Case for Wearing Masks Forever in Thailand

Yes, not breathing clearly, and having a tiny bit of saliva going on my face occasionally is comparable to being soaked in urine - how could I be so foolish? Where exactly did you acquire these impeccable critical thinking skills? Was it from the prestigious University of Life? -

Yes I remember coming here in 2010 and seeing half the population covered in face masks, thinking to myself - "wow I really have arrived in the land of smiles" - these people are the pinnacle of health, especially those who take their masks off to smoke cigarettes. -

I love masks though, they make me feel good about myself - when I drive alone with one on like all the other Thais I feel particularly Sounds like sensible advice to me - I am always amenable to taking on the advice of a country where people think it's sensible to ride a motorbike with no helmet and a face mask. Thais are infinitely more intelligent and better educated than us dirty farangs and it is time we accept this harsh truth, -

Honestly, I can’t imagine going back to the days when we actually saw each other’s faces in public. Smiling? Reading facial expressions? Gross. It’s 2025, who needs human connection in an already atomised and fragmented society when you can sweat into a synthetic face diaper all year round? Nothing screams "mentally thriving" like teaching toddlers that the outside world is one big germ-filled panic zone. And for adults? Nothing says “relaxed and well-adjusted” like constantly scanning the BTS for the one guy not wearing a mask, the audacity! Worse than Hitler in my eyes. And the benefits! Don’t want to shave? Mask. Hate making small talk? Mask. Want to signal that you're morally superior and scientifically enlightened? MASK. Let’s just make it law: Mask for life. Birth to cremation. Photos for your ID? Masked. Wedding day? Matching couple masks. Need CPR? Sorry, protocol, my mask is more important. Forget nuanced conversations about risk, data, or personal choice. Blanket fear is so much easier. Besides, it's not like anyone ever used non-verbal communication to bond with strangers in Thailand... right? So yes, let’s embrace it. After all, a society that treats the human face like a biohazard must be the pinnacle of psychological well-being. Oh and lets mask kids forever too, who cares about them learning how to read and understand basic human emotion, we have AI to do all of that now anyway.
