  1. Time is money and money is time, you are correct. As stated, the US consulate doesn't accept this sort of document from local Ampurs and the Biological father must travel to the US consulate in BKK. My feeling is that because of the loss of face involved, on his side, that he will just not do it or ask for an astronomical figure to execute it.

Sounds like a hard trudge no matter which road I take.

  2. Hello, I'm married to a women from the province of Buriram. Our goal is to get the her 2 year old child and her to the US of A. The child is from a previous short relationship with a Thai man, they were unwed. The father has never supported the child in any way, and has not lived with either of them from the birth of the child. After speaking to a Visa consultant in Thailand, I was told that the US Consulate in BKK would require a Parental Power Consent paper from her home province. On a side note the Thailand itself doesn't require this document for anything if the mother and father are unwed, and the mother is considered to have the parental power by default.

I went to the Consulate and they told me I had two options in the regard.

    A. Have the biological father of the child(whom is on the birth certificate) come in to the US consulate and sign and make a statement to the effect that he gives up all parental power.

Out of the question! I will not be bribed or deal with this assclown.

    B. Get a lawyer(?) and begin court proceeding to get the Parental Power document in the province of Buriram

What should a lawyer in this region of Thailand charge for such a thing? What are the possible problems/conflicts we may encounter? Does the Biological father need a lawyer if he was to show up and defend himself? If he doesn't show up for the court date is it a default judgment for the my wife? Will the lawyer assume that there is a farang involved and demand more and more money? Thank you for any positive and helpful feedback and answers.

    Cheers

  3. Hello

Am interested in riding my 125cc scooter from Pattaya to Bangkok, just to say I did. I'm aware that a bike this small cannot go on the toll roads(?). So does anyone know the route to take that is allowable? (And things to watch out for)

    Sincerely yours truly

  4. Was walking by Soi 11 yesterday and hadn't been to Cheap Charlie's in about 6 months, so decided to stop in for a beer. Before ordering I looked up at the drink menu and they had covered the old prices with new prices. Now 70 baht for all local pisswater! No air conditioning, horrible splintering tree stump seating, a toilet where " you can pee but no shit". I voted with me feet and will not soon return.

Now at Soi Cowboy happy hour can be had for as little as 40 baht a beer, sitting in air condition comfort surrounded by dancing damsels. See ya " not so cheap charlie's"!

hmmm, what was their price before? 60 baht mate? Unlike bars at Cowboy, CC and the like are reliant on booze sales for a profit.

I wonder how you reacted when the taxi fares went up for the first time ever a few months back - do you now use your feet?

No I don't use my feet, I use the bus and head for Pattaya!

  6. Hi

I'm a US citizen returning to Thailand for a long holiday. I've recently received a 60-day tourist visa that has to be used before March 24th. Upon arrival at Swampy Int'l airport I want immigration to only issue me the 30-day visa exempt stamp and not use my tourist visa. Reason being is that I plan on leaving the country for a side trip within 30 days. And upon my return from the sidetrip to Thailand I want to use my 60-day tourist visa. Has anyone run into problems at the airport with immigration trying to do this? Or is there any procedure or protocol for doing this? I guess what the gist of it is " will immigration force me into using the tourist visa since it is afixed to my passport" or make a big deal about me trying to get a 30-day stamp instead. Is there a rule for this?

    Any help appreciated, Thanx

  7. Worst Pattaya Bar

Without a doubt Mona Lisa on 2nd road at Pattaya Klang intersection. Warm Beer, inattentive and unattractive staff, Thai band in complex playing too loud, and old seat cushions and stools that are very uncomfortable. Why are they still there?

  8. FYI

I spent the last year in Thailand and was befriended by the clean-cut, well-built British guy whom touts timeshares, his name is Nicolas, he is a scumbag. He had just moved here and was looking for a friend whom could show him the ropes. He was actually raised in California and Florida before returning to Britain with his British parents when he was 12ish. He is wanted in UK, Spain, and some other Mediterranean country. He is very charismatic, and tried to get me involved many time with his timeshare outfit, and also borrow money from me(to no avail). He has a Filipina girlfriend whom speaks perfect english and they sometimes work in pairs, covering the larger 5 star hotels is their specialty. He is THE most succesfull tout and pulls in at least 150,000 baht a month, has a work permit, works out of Jomtien. I don't believe they carry weapons though or physically assault people. Timeshares are never a good idea.

  9. Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya 2am options

What are my options at 2am for getting to Pattaya? Can I haggle with different taxi drivers for the best rate? Or am I stuck with the Taxi guy they assign to me and whatever he wants to charge? Or is the meter rate a better option? Are there any other transportation options at 2am? --Thx

  10. I have ridden all the newer scooters in Thailand, the Airblade is by far the best all around scooter for the farang. And no I don't own any interest in the Honda Corp. I ride a Vespa ET4 back in California, and although faster than the airblade, I would trade it in a second if only they sold the Airblade in California. The Airblade does suck on gas although, so if your a real cheap charlie get a manual transmission.

  11. I have SEEN a Thai girl being reprimanded by one of the officers there. Probably due to the fact she was wearing a micro-mini and looked a bit errrrrrrrrrr " trashy "

Maybe that is what happened with your friends. :o

She most likely was wearing something inappropriate, my friend was so upset he said he would never return to that office. I still have an axe to grind with that butthole thought!
