  1. This is great intel, very very much appreciate your time to write all that. Kind indeed I know the N14 is not the best... I should have found an N18 version of almost the same period, right? Well, hindsight is a beautiful thing. I'll consider all the above and monitor things as req'd Although there is oil use... I reckon 1 litre per 1,000kms... everything else seems fine... I'll hunt out the right guy and get it checked professionally A compression test is a good idea on any car at 100k+. And any remap would be purely for better running, not really hunting out more BHP Watch this space
  2. I don't see any info about proving testing... although I have certs... they mightn't be that recent. I am flying in anyway... not a border cross. You think I will have problems? Surely they can't turn people around at the airport? They might subject you to an on the spot test? Well... any info/experience gladly received... thanks
  3. Front and rear bumpers are correct for the model, there is no paint damage, might just be the light. Sill moldings correct too. If you Google image a Cooper S JCW for 2010 or 2011 - you will see all this. Wing is a MINI wing, was a factory option. Only thing done is some carbon wing mirrors and the light surrounds black wrapped. I can't find rust on the car, it's been in Ayutthaya mostly so not a salt air coastal car. It's a bit dirty in those pics but she does look nice after a detail.
  4. Here she is.... It's a homage to my parents... who I lost recently When they courted in the late 60s my dad had a Cooper S and they loved it I accept it's not a 60s Mini... but I like the new ones too... and even those old ones were like go carts, and back in the day they were quick.... this is fast, really fast. It's running about 230hp as it is... but a good map and get it set up right is what's needed So far there is a guy in my village with a nice Cooper SD and he knows a guy, says is mid-priced and knowledgeable... I just thought I'd ask on here too in case I am sure I will get there in the end... meanwhile here she is. The nose is getting wrapped black to match. It's a Camden special... one of only a few here in LOS... the Camden was to celebrate 50 years of Mini.... so built in 2010.... although mine was first reg'd in 2011
  5. Just a thought.... I have bought a 2011 Cooper S and it is a little modified too... and I am wondering where I can take her for a couple of things I already have an Alfa Romeo here and have a couple of Alfa mechanics that are great and I can trust them and mostly the bills come in WAY under what I expect, which is great If I take this Cooper S to a BMW dealer they will pull my pants down for sure... plus, I'd rather help out a local mechanic and make friends So far 2,500kms and it's all fine, the EML light is on but I am monitoring all other things and I think it's triggered by the exhaust mods, it has a DualLagg system on it, it says 'increased emissions', other than that, just a bulb went I am fairly confident in the car, it's on 110,000kms now and has been loved, it's super clean and a high spec car with nearly all options ticked. It has a turbo blow off valve fitted, and it pulls super strong, the traction light flashed on hard acceleration as it should... and it feels balanced and planted. I've taken it over 200 and no shakes and brakes right, dunno what else to say So, it has extra Mini gauges, for the turbo bar and water temp. It gets up to 100 degrees and a tad over, if I turn up the heater full blast with either air-con on or off, it takes it down pretty quickly to 80... it used to be a bit cooler before It has used a fair bit of oil... but doesn't drip and the bay is not oily. I think it needs a remap to be honest. There is no oil in the water and the levels are all right elsewhere Any pointers on any of this? In the main I am hoping someone knows a Mini guru that is fairy priced and trustworthy in Bkk... I am sure there are a couple or so out there Cheers as always in advance for any genuine help... and HNY one and all
  6. UK citizen, been in and out for years. Currently on a 45 + 30 day visa-exempt... and planning to do a run to Laos, as I used to do pre-Covid In the past I mostly went by myself as I know my way around in Vientiane and always rented a vehicle there anyways Thai stamp expires on the 8th... What my plan was... cross the border by myself on the 8th afternoon... I assume it's a form or two and a picture to get across at the bridge and it gives you 30 days in Laos? Next, head to Vientiane. Monday or Tuesday morning go along to the Thai embassy and fill in the forms and pay. I assume I just need pictures and photocopies of the usual stuff there? Is it the same as before? 2k approx and get in early so that it's all processed before midday? Do I need to take anything specific for my application? Collect the following day after lunch and return when I like, is that about it? What am I missing? It's been so long since this went on I really can't remember Anyone that has done this recently I would like to hear from you, and many many thanks in advance as usual, and a HNY one and all
  7. Firstly, thanks for showing an interest in my post. so, in short... * I have cash in the bank here already over the amount of the property I am interested in * I am 49, UK national, lived here 27 years, 9 months to go before a retirement visa is an option, in fact, at this time just on a 45 day stamp on arrival * I am not married to a Thai * I do have some solid Thai friends that are wealthy beyond belief and trustworthy, (ie. putting it in their name) so that might be an avenue to look at if some separate legal contract about asset ownership is an option * I don't have a company registered here * House is 10 years old, in a Bkk suburb, and under 10m THB. In a gated community and 55sqw. * I don't fit the category of a rich investor with 40m+ THB I would like to find the safest route to buying this property, I will reside in it myself, and likely long term. At some point I would need a Will to bequeath it to my sister in the UK. Not sure what other info is useful, I would love to hear from anyone that went through similar recently too, and what processes they went through, costs involved and final outcome. Regarding recommending solicitors, I would rather hold off from discussing that at this stage please. (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE only post if you have relevant and knowingly accurate and up to date information)
  8. As an expat here and just on a 45 day on arrival stamp... what documents do I need to get to put cars and bikes in my name? I live in a condo and have done for years, I can supply 12 month contract evidence of my address etc etc Thanks so much for any info, and if anyone knows of reasonable rate agencies that provide this service, I may also be interested in that avenue too. (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE only post if you have relevant and knowingly accurate and up to date information)
  9. In case anyone is still reading this thread, after reading up somewhat, and searching around, I went with CurrenciesDirect who have an app too. I bank with KrungSri who I chose in the past as their rates seemed always preferable to other Thai banks on the pound. Well, in total I will move c 10mil, and after them calling me to discuss this, they honoured me a higher rate on all transactions based on my potential total business. I initially sent 10kGBP. They were courteous and professional and answered all my questions to put my mind at ease. I paid no fees and got over 55 satang higher than I would have sending it directly to my bank... and no fees at all. Payment landed smoothly in my Thai account less than 48 hours later. Highly recommended!
  10. So... in short - due to the worrying political state of the UK economy, add to that the upcoming strikes pending, and still the effects of Brexit, I am looking to move some funds to Thailand from a UK bank account A few questions; 1 - Anyone researched this in the last week? Any recommendations who to use? If I buy Thai Baht here I will get screwed royally... And if I send UK£ to my Thai bank I will have to accept the unknown daily rate that my bank uses 2 - I understand the max I can send is 5m THB per transaction - anyone know more about that? And, is there anything I need to be made aware of in order to do this with amounts of this size? 3 - Can you trust external service providers (bestmoney.com, wise.com, ofx.com) with large amounts? Anyone have recent experience with any of them and the reliability of their services and/or any discrepancies on the final amount received? Thank you so much in advance, rather stressed over the fluctuating £ at the moment Really, thanks again for relevant and reliable up to date info
  11. So... I am aware of The Thailand pass, and roughly what I need to do on that... but haven't started doing it as I haven't booked any ticket back to the UK, as I haven't left Thailand yet for a funeral which means I will be in the UK for roughly 2 weeks.. In case that is not clear, I mean, I will likely fly this weekend... and need to be in the UK for about 18-22 days to attend a funeral, however whilst there, things may change. So would prefer to see what happens before booking a flight and going through the Thailand Pass process. And I am a 48 year old Brit, been under visa amnesty until now. So would be returning to a fresh start with stamps. In a nutshell I am not worried about that really. Should be OK. My 4 points that I need help on, are as follows... Myself, I have been double Phizer'ed with the second jab being mid October. I have the printed certificate of this already. I will be booking the required Covid test online prior to arriving in the UK and my assumption is with all that I can leave the airport and no need to self-quarantine. 1) I am about to become a hermit as I don't want to risk catching anything and jeopardising my travel, do you think it's OK to do that and just arrive early at Suwanabhum and test there on the day prior to flying? Is the test that they issue there recognised at the UK where I will be landing? 2) I have heard that I may need a Vaccine Passport, which I have seen and looks like a little yellow passport. I believe Government offices can issue it for a small admin fee, by taking your Vaccine Certificate and passport. What do others know of that? Firstly - for travelling to the UK, and secondly for returning to Thailand. I really need to get that? 3) What kind of Visas are people returning on? I may not have time to apply for a Visa and so might be returning on a 30 day stamp on arrival. Is that still possible? I know it's a grey area about extending that at the moment. I might just have to take my chances and see with that. If others have ideas please let me know. 4) The 30 day mandatory Covid Insurance I am fine about, I saw many companies offering it at around 2,500 THB. A friend mentioned to me that check it has cover for being tested a 'fake-positive', where someone who does not have Coronavirus tests positive for it, as no test is 100% accurate. You could end up with bills for 100k++ when you should never have been admitted in the 1st place. Does anyone have thoughts on this? And'or know of a company that includes that in their cover? As always, you lot on here are always so helpful, I really don't know what I would do without you, and please and thank you - ONLY relevant comments with solid info as I have just lost my mother and my life is already upside-down without this all adding to it. I can't thank those who assist me enough... but give yourself a pat on the back please and thank you for getting this far!
  12. Hey everyone... I am sorry to appear a technophobe, and/or lazy... but at this point in time, I really don't have time to read all 75 pages on this thread, and I am somewhat numb from the very shocking news of my dear Mum's unexpected passing and am about to jump on a plane and deal with that. Likely I will be home just for the funeral and a few other things, and return back to Bangkok where I have lived for the last 26 years. So, in short... most likely I will be returning to Bkk shortly before Xmas, but haven't booked any flights yet (and reluctant to bearing in mind things might change when I am in the UK) and would be returning effectively as a new arrival, rather than using a re-entry on an existing visa. I am a UK nation, 48. Double Phizer'ed, second one was October 15th. So I need to use this Thailand Pass online? I need 30 days minimum C19 insurance up to a value? Any other Brits can recommend a suitable good value one? I need to be tested prior to leaving UK? I have never been tested, there are different types of tests I believe... which and when do I do? As I may not be able to sort a visa of any sort in time, likely I will come in on 30 days, but want to extend. Any know about how that might work out? I must stay one night in an approved hotel on arrival, right? What are starting prices for that and choices? Are people actually getting turned away? I will do all in my power to be careful to get it right of course. I am so sorry to look the fool, but I have a big hole in my heart at the moment and all this is too much for me. Please please please only give accurate and relevant info, that would be lovely, thanks everyone and stay safe.
