  1. Make sure you have a paper trail showing all the money used to build house was yours before marriage. You never know what might happen in the future and having money paper trail would be to your benefit.

    I hope building permit and construction contract has your name only.

    As someone already suggested get a lease or usufruct prior to marriage on the property although that was something you should have done before construction started.

  2. Following is from the Vienna Convention 1968 that addresses Convention on Road Traffic. Thailand has signed this Convention.

    Contracting Parties shall recognize:

    (a) Any domestic permit drawn up in their national language or in one of

    their national languages, or, if not drawn up in such a language, accompanied by a

    certified translation;

    (B) Any domestic permit conforming to the provisions of Annex 6 to this

    Convention; and

    © Any international permit conforming to the provisions of Annex 7 to

    this Convention;

    as valid for driving in their territories a vehicle coming within the categories

    covered by the permit, provided that the permit is still valid and that it was

    issued by another Contracting Party or subdivision thereof or by an association

    duly empowered thereto by such other Contracting Party. The provisions of this

    paragraph shall not apply to learner-driver permits.

  3. You will need someone Thai to help but you can take problem up with Office of the Consumer Protection Board if she does not refund deposit. (http://www.ocpb.go.th/).

    I guess you can also mention you hope she has paid taxes on income derived from renting condo. I'm sure the tax people would like to know if she hasn't.

    Make sure you have pictures of property on day of departure for you records.

    Just walk away and write deposit off and move on with your life.

  4. Wife is wanting an Auto bike, Has a wave now. I like the idea of another wave for her. Can have the grocery basket where many scooters can not. The Wave AT is rated at 50 kpl. Let us know how yours does.

    JM the first measurement was slightly over 47 km a liter. Need four or five more measurements before I have a good reliable number.

  5. Thanks for the feedback to those that responded.

    Picked up a Wave auto yesterday and its sure nice to ride something that feels like a motorcycle again. It doesn't have the acceleration of the new Scoopy I most recently was riding but its okay. The Wave frame is definitely stiffer than Scoopy in my opinion. I also notice very little difference in ride with second person on board when compared to Scoopy. Now to see how it does on fuel when riding around Pattaya.

  6. OP since you are already married there are no real good options to protect yourself if land and house are in wife's name. The best you can do is put land in her name and get all permits and construction contract for house in your name.only. If you divorce for some reason you should be able to recover some of your money after months in court.

    A will does not help since you cannot own land and would be given 1 year to sell or put property in Thai persons name.

    Give up the idea thinking its okay to have family living in same house. Bad idea and you will soon regret.

  7. Finding a good agent will be difficult if not impossible. They prefer spending their time pushing expensive houses and condos because they generate a bigger commission.

    Its best if you market yourself and not rely on agent. Post photo's and description in sites provided by a previous poster.

    Renting is possible but doing so while not here to personally look after can be full of risk.

    I sent you a PM concerning property.

  8. Plan to purchase a Honda automatic of some type but currently not sure if it will be resale or a new one. I've noticed a few Honda Wave 110i AT's (full automatic) around and was wondering if anyone rides one of these or knows anything about their durability? Do not appear to have been massed produced because not many on the road and perhaps no longer produced.

    I considered purchasing regular Wave but after using automatic scooters for several years I prefer to stick with auto but I miss having foot pegs instead of floor boards. The Wave 110i AT offers what I want if still available new or used.

  9. Going to get license this coming Tuesday and have a question. I know its not legal since I have no license but wanted to ride new motorcycle over to use for taking test. I ask because the state back in America I received my license, which has long since expired, required you have a licensed rider accompany you to the department of motor vehicles.

    Do I need a person with license accompany me to license office?

    Other than possibility of being stopped on way any problems at license office having arrived riding motorcycle?
