  1. i also had the idea to get some chlorine from the kind they add to swimming pools....

You could also use a solution of regular Clorox and water.

I have been using 3M Air Foam 2 in 1 Cleaner and Freshener the last couple years. I clean once a year and one can is big enough to do all three of my current units. Just follow the directions on the can.

You can find in Lotus, Home Pro and most likely Big C.

  2. I'll be applying next year.

I haven't lived in the US for ten years, but maintain a mailing address (with a mailbox service) and all my accounts (bank, cc, etc) are there. I would prefer that the SS payments go into my US bank account.

Would I still have to go through the Manila office?

Yes you must use Manila office because you live in Thailand. My payments are made to US bank also.

It was a simple process, unless changed, I started with email to Manila three months prior to birthday I became eligible. A few simple questions and information passed via emails and then phone interview scheduled on certain date/time when they call you. They also inform you the date your bank will receive first payment during phone interview.

  3. For those interested Google "Thailand migration report 2011" and read the pdf file. Its a couple years out of date but it does put numbers on different categories of foreigners staying in Thailand. It was generated by International Organization for Migration (IOM) with data provided by immigration. Most of the data was for the period late 2009 and early 2010.

Here are numbers for just a few of the categories from one of the charts.

    Professional, skilled and semi-skilled workers

    • Foreigners with work permits 100,338

    • Diplomats and officials 6,148

    Other temporary stay

    • Stay with Thais 14,946

    • Stay with Thai wife 11,381

    • Stay with resident families 1,098

    • Retirement 28,509

    • Others (including medical treatment and study) 65,175

  4. Have just installed 64 bit desktop version of Ubuntu 12.04 on HDD that already has Windows 7 (64 bit) installed. I installed it on free disk space that I partitioned during installation process of Ubuntu. I've updated Ubuntu with the latest updates and turned on the ufw firewall. Now I have a few question since I have no experience with linux systems but have a desire to migrate off Windows.

One more detail about my situation. My internet access is through wired LAN network at my condo building. Don't know number of computers on system but there are only 63 units in building. Do not know if valid test but I tried Shields UP test located at www.grc.com and it cannot access my computer.

With the ufw firewall active do I need to be concerned with anyone in the building being able to access my system or even see my HDD when I am running Ubuntu?

Is the Windows NTFS partition visible to anyone when I run Ubuntu? I have a good software firewall when running Windows.

Are there other precautions I should take to protect my system from intrusion?

When I installed Ubuntu four partitions were created (boot, root, home and swap) because the procedure I used set it up that way. Do you really need to have four partitions when installing Ubuntu or can it be done with fewer?

  5. I am going to be more astute in trying to maintain 30 psi though as I have been to trusting on letting others maintain pressure.

Never rely on a local to insure your tire pressures are correct. After leaving car dealer after service more times than not I find my tires with 40 psi when 30 psi front and 29 psi rear is recommended by manufacturer.

Locals also seem to have the same problem of over inflating motorcycle tires. Recently in for 1000 km service at dealer and when complete I started to ride off and within 20 feet noticed something not right and knew it was the tires. Jumped off and pulled out my tire gauge and check front and rear. Front calls for 25 psi and rear 35 psi but they had 50+ psi in front and rear. My gauge only goes up to 50 psi so could not read exact pressure.

  6. As I understand things after you have applied and received extension based on retirement your wife and child would be able to obtain extension as your dependents provided they meet following:

    (1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM);

    (2) Proof of family relationship;

    (3) In the case of a spouse, the marital relationship shall be dejure (legitimate) and de facto; or

    (4) In the case of a child, adopted child or child of his/her spouse, the said person must not be married, must be living with the family, and must be less than 20 years of age

If you die your wife would no longer be allowed to remain in Thailand as dependents on your extension. If over 50 she could apply for extension for purpose of retirement provided she meets requirements. The child once it reaches 20 years of age can no longer remain as dependent and would have to leave.

  7. It sounds like you are the one that purchased land and adjacent property owners had already built additions that violated the law. If you saw this problem before purchase why did you buy?

Below is section that covers you particular problem. It is from the Property section of Thailand civil code.

Section1341. The owner of an immovable property must not construct roofs or other structures which cause rain water to fall upon the adjoining property.

You can try or have the local headman talk with them about the problem and the fact they violated the law by building additions.

Next option would be take the issue up with Land office but I doubt they will be of much help but who knows.

Last solution would be to take them to court and you would most likely win because they are in violation of the law. I guess it would depend how many years the violation has existed.

If it were me I would propose they build a new wall at their cost, pay you compensation for lost land and pay cost of updating chanote's at the land office. If you don't mind losing a bit property.

Regardless you will create many enemies and do not take any destructive actions or you will be the one in court.

  8. I have no need for a large displacement bike and instead would like to see something in the style of the CL 350 I owned back in the 1970's when I lived in Thailand. Something in the 250-400 cc range but NOT in the CBR 250 style.
