If there is this much procrastination over the changing of a battery in a buoy what chances of a nuclear power plant ever being built?
It's not the construction that would worry me, since that would involve massive padded tenders and hundreds of overseas engineers, it would be Somchai Simpson and Pooyai Burns that would be the problem once the thing was running.
Very good point about Nuclear. I'm among the voices in the wilderness that have been howling about the many reasons Thailand should not go nuclear link. Thais overseeing the complexities of a N.plant is scary indeed. There's also potential for terrorist involvement, there's handling of spent fuel rods, there's inevitable decommissioning and then keeping the grounds off-limits for tens of thousands of years. The mind boggles.
As for the buoy, it doesn't matter whether it's functioning or not.
What happens when it's triggered by an incoming tsunami? does a red light go on in some office somewhere (is the light bulb in working order? Is anyone on hand to notice the light? What if the light goes on during lunch break?)
Does the buoy trigger siren blasts along beaches? If so, are the sirens maintained in working order?
Even if the mechanics of the alert system all worked according to plan, I submit that Thais, who are all inured to loud sounds, will just go on with whatever they're doing and simply tune out the added loud noise. This would be particularly true if there were one or two false alarms.
These dullards building and running a Nuclear plant is indeed a very scary thought. I read on another post that a possible Tsunami could have hit Phuket at 05.44 this morning and that nobody was about in Phuket at that time - no alert at all.
I guess it is the Falangs fault for not waking the clowns up - and also Falang fault for not paying tea money to change battelee in buoy - bad falang now must pay money for batalee

Had a delicious sandwich at Smoothie Blues in Chiang Mai with my wife the other day and low and behold... a foreigner and his girlfriend came in with two fairly large dogs and sat down. We we're sitting in the open air but covered section. The dogs we're tied up at a chair adjacent to our table. I was a bit taken aback at first but the dogs we're very well trained and behaved.
I'm not a dog lover and don't allow them in my place and there is certainly no comparison to the OP's post. However these dogs IMO most definitely added to the convivial ambience of the restaurant.
Just depends on the place, I suppose.
Regards Bojo
you may not say that if the muts took a shit while you were eating - I think dogs need to keep out of Restaurants where people are eating

As the world economy tanks similar sad incidents are probable.
And yes very selfish and wasteful.
Lose of hope and or jealousy maybe. Both.
Can't keep up with the jones, sudden loss of face,
too many possibilities, and his poor mother has to live with it.
And 220v 15 amps is NOT a quick and easy exit.
450 across both arms can cause a heart attack,
but this way is too slow and miserable and
as an electrician he should have known that.
Darwin Award winner for the week.
All to sad.
My condolences to the mother and wife and GF's family too.
Thai electrician though so probably had 5 days training to get "qualified"
-
Hard to believe,.were they using the utensils ?
probably got more manners than their asshol_e owners! maybe they should take the dogs to a Korean restaurant next time and see how that works out for them
-
I see no need to publicly mention the Hotel where this poor guy worked. nothing at all to do with them
Maybe a disgruntled customer getting payback

What a bunch of dim-witted censorious moralists!! You actually seem to think that the mere carrying of drugs is evil, and that taking them is terrible, and that this poor woman deserves this sentence. You obviously think that prohibition is sensible and right.
The "war on drugs" is an idiocy that has created most of the criminality in the world today and cost society untold billions and untold misery. Drugs should be decriminalised and state-controlled, with support and care for addicts. That policy would be an immense improvement on the current state of affairs worldwide (except in a few enlightened European countries), costing the whole lot of us far far less in taxes and suffering.
People who support the current drastic penalisation of drug-takers and drug-traders are simply out to lunch.
you are a clown

I entirely agree, its like their vision is limited to the next meal,.not to be funny but they must have seen this coming? and i'd imagine that swine 'flu has sod all to do with it.having lived in LOS for more than a year now i'm still struggling to get used to the short-termist thinking of the government.
They only think short term due to the short time they get in power before the next coup!! I think it is running at 19 in 60 years

I had a lot of pleasure as a child watching Kung <deleted> - my Mum didn't like it much as I was constantly breaking her stuff "practising" It's very sad he ended up taking his own life - RIP

The cost of living in the UK is now very high - in a decent paying job over 50% gone every month with tax and NI - then the Council Tax, overpriced Housing, stamp duty, inheritance tax, capital gains tax, VAT, Excise duty, fuel tax, road tax, TV licence, speed traps, cost of public transport, shit weather (Scotland) and so on and so on. It was working to exist, I am very happy to be in Asia and have a much, much better standard of living and can do it in a more relaxing environment with nice Weather as an additional bonus (not Today!)
In Scotland we did not seem to have the same amount of issues with Muslims and their ways as many areas of England have - maybe too cold for them.
I can't imagine going back apart from short breaks - so bye bye Britainistan

Emirates airline has announced an increase in its free baggage allowance for passengers effective for all tickets issued on or after May 4.
The new allowance, implemented across the airline's network of more than 100 destinations globally, is – 30kg for Economy Class passengers, 40kg for Business and 50kg for First Class.
Nabil Sultan, Emirates' Divisional Senior VP, Revenue Optimisation, said: "We has moved to these new free baggage levels to further demonstrate our commitment to putting the passenger first."
Gold and Silver members of Skywards – Emirates' frequent flyer programme – are entitled to an additional baggage allowance over their ticketed allowance – 16kg for Gold members and 12 kg for Silver. Codeshare passengers travelling on Emirates-operated flights are also eligible for the baggage allowances.

About time too. Just a simple suitcase and a few encyclopedias weighs 20 kg.
But it will be some time before I travel Emirates again on the Bamgkok route. Those 747-300 series with 10 seats across instead of 9 just increases that sardine feeling. Sitting in the aisle means massive bruising to shoulders as you are knocked-around that much, and the ICE system entertainment boxes under the seats restrict leg comfort.
I have defected to Singapore Airlines who have dramatically slashed London-BKK fares now and if you time it right go on the new A380 Super-Plane.
Are you an encyclopaedia salesman or just technophobic? get one on CD or DVD and you can pile other <deleted> in your case such as toiletries and clothing then you may actually find it refreshing to take a shower and change clothing instead of reading your encyclopaedias. I also prefer to sit in a seat on an Aircraft as sitting in the aisle gets in peoples way.

Excise raise wouldn't heighten oil price
By: Bangkokpost.com
Published: 9/05/2009
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the raising of the oil tax would not affect prices at gasoline station, and this point would be ensured by the oil subsidization fund.
Asked whether the new bill on oil excise tax would raise excise by as much as 10 baht, the premiere said selling price ceilings and real price after tax increase would be separated. Consumers would not be adversely affected because mechanics of the oil subsidization fund would still be in place.
Energy Minister Wannarat Channukul said benzene and diesel prices would go up in proportion to the excise increase announced by the Ministry of Finance if no intervention is made, and results would be problematic in such case. To avert such circumstance he was having the oil subsidization fund reduce its drawing of money from oil sales, so retail prices at stations would not increase.

Tourism contributes 6% to Thailand's GDP.
If tourism fell to ZERO, not a single visitor, no hotels, no meals, no soapies.
It would only be down six percent. Get a grip.
"Only 6%" - that is Billions of Baht - combine this with the decreases in the manufacturing sector and you are looking at serious problems for the economy
-
IMO. These low numbers indicate Thailand remains the laughing stock of the world.
Thats a bit harsh - deaths daily in the South, Murder and deaths at Krabbi and Phi Phi, riots, Airport closure and shootings in Bangkok, televised protests at ASEAN in Pattaya, Containers full of bodies at Sattahip, daily muggings and thefts by Katoeys, and a very poor exchange rate with 150 baht ATM fees - no problem Amazing Thailand

Easiest solution. Do not transit through Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Air travellers' medical records needed
BANGKOK: -- Thai Airways International (THAI) suggests passengers with flu symptoms to bring their medical records with them due to the outbreak of swine flu in other countries.
THAI's Crisis Management Operation Centre director Surapol Isarangkul Na Ayutthaya said on Wednesday that the airline had informed its cabin crews about the severity of swine flu and ways to protect themselves from infection.
Mr Surapol believed the cabin crews would have some immunity because they received influenza vaccination once a year.
The airline had no plans to change its flights, and no passengers had cancelled their flights yet, he said.
However, THAI may not allow people with flu symptoms to board if they could not verify their health conditions, he said.
Suvarnabhumi airport director Serirat Prasutanont said more officials had been assigned to facilitate passengers as some areas could be crowded due to the installation of thermal scanners by the Public Health Ministry.
