Is it complicated to hire a Thai?
No - tell them what to do, then pay them. (or if you are also a Thai do not pay them just run away on pay day)

Big deal. Banks are busineses, not public services.
Many major British, European and American banks are most certainly not private stand alone businesses, you could be sure the same rules would apply to Thai banks in similar circumstances.
You know of major British, European, and American banks that are NOT profit oriented? Which ones?
I wasn't suggesting that all banks have the same business model, but in the end most if not all are in business. Serving the public does not have to = for the public good, some folks buy into PR ads too much.
There are still some mutuals in the UK.
Nationwide is a well known one. A mutual is actually owned by its members, not shareholders. Because Nationwide is not driven totally by profit, members often get preferential rates. That is why the cheapest ATM withdrawals in Thailand are for Nationwide members.
Not driven by profit !! ha ha ha

<deleted> is Tourism competitiveness? I see Switzerland won so it has nothing to do with being affordable - maybe this is why Thailand have just arrested a Swiss Reporter

A passport photo is rejected if it is not suitable, and if he had no shirt on,then i don't see how he could have got the photo accepted.I think that the Thai immi.chap started off ok,just questioning Simon, but i suspect Simon used his size and mouth to belittle the guy,and from there,it's all downhill. I like "beachers" comment about Thai's having small brains and big ego's...To get a job in immigration requires a BA.So much for small brains.....And i wouldn't take to kindly to arrogant foreigners trying to stand over me. But going to jail for this, mmmmmm,Seems a bit harsh.
You obviously don't know anything about the Thai education system.
what system??

I referenced the Maestro / Master ? cash card and was directed to the following, but i,m not sue if it is relevant, but just in case it is.
Taken from the online web site this morning. 27-02-2009
You are allowed to upgrade to a cash card under the following re qualification
Last updated: 10/02/2009 13:41:31
Upgrade to a FlexAccount debit card
You may be eligible to upgrade your FlexAccount cash card to a debit card if your account is well conducted.
To apply, please visit your local branch with your current FlexAccount card.
However, there are circumstances where we would not be able to consider upgrading your cash card to a debit card, which include:
If you are under age 18
Your existing account has been open for less than 7 months
You have applied for an upgrade within the last 4 months
Your account has recently been overdrawn without authorisation
Other Nationwide products you hold have been in arrears
Your account has not been used in the last 3 months
Loan, mortgage, or credit card you hold with other providers have been in arrears
You are currently bankrupt or subject to an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA)
If none of these circumstances apply to you, you may be eligible for an debit card upgrade.
I,ve messaged them via personal Online log in and will post any reply i get from them that is related and useful.
Thank you
I just got a message telling me if I want a cash card (I have visa debit) I need to reapply online for another account, I have done this but as yet no option for cash card awaiting more details after they look at application.

Most expensive item was a 120 U.S.$ eye-cream for my boyfriend "La Mer" from Canada, no customs duty asked (same cost close to 400 U.S.$ here in Thailand!)
What eye cream costs $400? I can supply you with high quality cream for much less than that... You must be mad (or American)
Hi
I'm neither mad nor American, but i have a Thai boyfriend who very firmly believes in the miracles of cosmetics.... the brand of the stuff is "La Mer" and the item's name is "Concentre De La Mer". This cost roughly 14,000 Baht (in Central Bangna) in the size he got, which was 120 USD coming from Canada.
This holds true for pretty much every cosmetics stuff with big brand names on it - abroad they cost half or a third of what they cost here.
I myself would chop off my hand before paying money for eye cream. Yes i'm a fairy but i don't need cosmetics, haven't needed them for the past 34 years and won't need them for the next 34
Kind regards.....
Thanh
good story and funny, scary price for cream!

ASEAN SUMMIT
Thailand, I'nesia, M'sia in tourism pact
CHA-AM: -- Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand will launch a joint tourism package to bring quick money into crisis-hit economies, a Thai minister said yesterday.
The Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) yesterday declared an "IMT-GT Celebration Year" for the package.
It was inspired by the success of 2008's "Visit IMT-GT Year". The three countries will jointly promote tourism, said PM's Office Minister Virachai Virameteekul.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva discussed the plan with Indonesian President Susilo Yudhoyono and Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi at an IMT-GT summit.
One idea is a joint promotion of medical tourism, Virachai told reporters, without detailing the plan.
Set up in 1993, the IMT-GT aims to strengthen sub-regional cooperation and economic growth.
It has a five-year road map covering infrastructure, halal food, trade and tourism running till 2011.
Abhisit suggested exploring synergy among individual development plans to attract investors.
Thailand could connect its Southern Seaboard Development Plan with Malaysia's northern and eastern corridor economic regions, Virachai said.
The IMT-GT scheme covers 10 Indonesian provinces, eight Malaysian states and 14 southern Thai provinces.
Thailand hopes the scheme will also benefit the predominantly Muslim deep South, where ongoing violence has killed more than 3,200 people since 2004.
The Governors' and Chief Ministers' Forum will play a key role in promoting trade, investment and tourism, Virachai said.
The three leaders urged the forum to improve mechanisms to ensure growth of local private sectors, he said.

another half baked plan - what next - maybe a miracle drink to get tourists here!!!
-
seems very overpriced - can sneak into the field and get it free and fresh
-
IanForbes, you could manage that with a double-entry tourist visa and only one border run, because for each entry, for which you get permission to stay for 60 days, your can get a 30-day extension at the local immigration office.

Amazing press release. You need to know what the [proposal means. To me, logistics refers to deep sea ports, modernized harbors, multi-lane railroad tracks, multi-lane superhighways everywhere, containerization. It does not mean more Skytrains and Metros, or more passenger planes. Anybody here in the business care to explain? Or is it just another silly Thai govt. press release about a pie-in-sky idea that will never materialize?
Talk about "pie in the sky"

No more fees free transactions in Thailand.
It'll still be the best debit card but no longer the best credit card for use in Thailand. Reported in the Guardian this morning here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2009/feb/2...edit-card-rates
and on NW own web site here: http://www.nationwide.co.uk/creditcard/gol...ransactions.htm

Am guessing Khun Voranai received his education outside of Thailand.
Are you saying Thai people educated in Thailand are incapable of thought?
-
A roti seller? Uh huh. When embarrassed by one's own nationals, find a foreigner to blame.
my thoughts also
-
sounds like a nice drink, im sure it will be the answer to all thailands problems, and that the 300,000 stranded tourists will come back next year to enjoy this wonderous cocktail!
Yes I agree - this will end the credit crunch as well well done TAT saved the Country from economic meltdown!!

Thai police arrest female teacher for sex with teenager
Bangkok - Thai police arrested a female teacher for having sex with a 13-year-old boy whom she was tutoring in her room, media reports said Tuesday.
Police arrested Thanawan Klongsinchai, a 29-year-old English teacher, Monday on charges of molesting a minor, the Khao Sod newspaper said.
Thanawan denied the charge, claiming the sex was consensual.
Parents of the 13-year-old, who was big for his age group, pressed charges against the teacher after the boy told his friends of the affair, the newspaper said.
Thanawan had been providing the boy private tutorials in English in her school dormitory, where the alleged harassment took place. She claimed the boy made the first moves and she eventually consented.

It seems insensitive of his parents to talk about the size of his tackle to the media and spoil his fun with the Teacher - they are clearly unfit to raise a child -
