  1. Maybe in this sources traditional category that they don't even define. Like brothels in Germany. Their whatever way of counting doesn't apply in Thailand: The freelancers, sideliners, millions of girls on various "dating" websites. Add these to the various bargirls, massage, karaoke, and the domestic supply for domestic demand. Could be 2 million. And that would be in the rolling 18 to 48 age bracket. I would estimate there are about 20 million Thai females in this group.

Yes--and they were doing the muck thing again this morning.  Huge traffic backup because Beach Road was down to just 1 lane.  Not a traffic cop in sight and, of course, nobody thought to temporarily ban parking on the shop side to create a second traffic lane.

Indeed. Not sure if it is going to be possible to clear 3 km of muck when only limited access point are available. IE horizontal rooting very difficult. And when I say failed drain pipe project again- This photo taken at North end of a 2meter diameter pipe from that previous major drain pipe project that had pipes going out into the bay , perpendicular to Beach Rd. Again no pumps to keep pipes clear, again clogged up. Screenshot_2024-05-02-16-02-25-538_jp.naver_line.android.thumb.jpg.923578aa69fdee50e2acfafa130192f1.jpg

Don't get angry about it like they messed it up. To them it's being done correctly, or just needs to be continually fixed.

Done correctly?? Like they messed it up? Like they messed up the latest drain pipe project along Pattaya beach rd. That is the large pipes from North end to South end. About 3 km of horizontal pipe about 1 1/2 meter diameter. Who would have guessed that those horizontal pipes with no pump to keep them clear would fill up with muck. And all they have been doing for a couple of weeks is removing the muck at limited access points. Failed drain pipe project again. And maybe what's going on in Jomtien too

Anyone have any experience with a baht bus lately?

Yes May 1  about 11 am. Took almost half an hour from Dolphin to Dusit/Beach.  So I bailed-forget about it. Even if it's a minor holiday its ridiculous. Even on random days second Rd is jammed up. To call spades spades it is probably all the Thais driving into Pattaya from all these major North/South expressways .

Interesting FX moves recently, though the baht and yen are falling for different reasons. The baht is a victim of higher US interest rates and a rather moribund Thai economy that is suffering from a worldwide slowdown in general and a Chinese slowdown in particular.

The yen is a canary in the coal mine to anyone---especially expats retired in Thailand---who think they are going to live off a government pension. Japan has an aging population and a woefully underfunded pension system to go along with the highest debt-to-GDP of any major nation (at 260%). As the population becomes an inverted pyramid and debt service takes a larger bite of tax revenues, the only solution is to print. Massive printing means a falling currency and inflation for holders of that currency. The yen hasn't been this low against the USD since the late 1980s/early 1990s.

A second choice debt-strapped govts have is to renege on the promises of pensions. It isn't as if any pensioner paid anywhere near as much into the system as they expect to receive; pensions have always been a Ponzi Scheme, which worked when the population was growing and there were more young workers entering the system than old folks leaving it.

If I was 20 years old and just beginning my adult working life, I would forget pensions exist and plan my own future by saving. If I was a retired pensioner living off the govt pension, I might hope I age and die quickly, because the day of reckoning is coming. I cannot see the govt of any major nation being able to afford their pension and health commitments, unless they join the race to the bottom in terms of the value of their currency.

You might have gotten by as a second-third rate government employee - But forget about economist

What is the legal difference under US law between a high-powered rifle and a low-powered rifle?

Ballistically high power starts at .270 and up. .30-06, .300 Win mag. Low power are like .30 -30 , .308, the AK 47 round.  The press calls all rifles " high power" Of course they are more powerful than a handgun round.Ie a .30-30 Winchester is more powerful than a .357 magnum hangun

What policy is there to avoid red light areas? The only rule I know about for leave from a ship is to try and not congregate many sailors into one establishment. This way if it is targeted the military casualties are not so many to affect the ships performance.

She is an idiot who knows nothing about who comes and what they do there. Or she is providing more lip service to the news.

I am curious if there were many women waiting at the docks for the sailors to get off like it was in the old days. Hundreds of working girls waiting the men to offload the boats to choose them first. Kind of like what they still do at some hotels near soi 3 Nana in Bkk.

I have asked them about that policy and it is very hard and fast. With a captains mast / career ending consequences. I don't know about at night but they are never seen in daytime with a girl. I'm sure there is a network with the taxi drivers who take them to discret locations stocked  with girls.

  8. Join the club: I don't know what kind of business some of these songkow drivers are running: About 10 of them pass me by / that stop.  Overall I have my regulars that know me and are good people. Maybe about 20 max.

And the motorcycles are on the pedestrian walkway everyday and night, which is illegal. The Police know it and do nothing about it. In fact, that driver drove right past the Police station on the walkway.

And they go on and on ad nauseam about attracting quality tourists . 5555

They don't like what you like. Many Thai's like noise, commotion, crowds and traffic.

. To them it's being done correctly, or just needs to be continually fixed.

Being done correctly/needs to be continually "fixed" . Are mutually exclusive. Sure many Thais like noise and chaos. So we shall see how that works out for quality tourism. Clue: The Europeans don't like being next to pickup parties. Pattaya beach used to have a mini high season in July and August but the endless "improvements" sh*tshow lost them- long gone.

Yes in northern Taiwan as it states but not Taipei City.  This as Taipei banned these girls / their booths / neon lights over 12 years ago when I lived there. But once you hit the outskirts of the city at night, yup, still there today!

And plenty of beauties in Southern Taiwan too. Kaohsiung

Yes, it does.   And, the numbers will continue to grow with popular events such as the International Fireworks, and new attractions popular with Thais, such as the big water park that just opened on the Darkside, and family-oriented new hotels such as Centre Point Space.

So it seems that all the major development in North Pattaya/South Naklua you noted. * And especially the ex Best corner that extends for acres and acres. Is in expectations going to be supported by Thais in the majority. Because there sure are enough of them  here driving around in circles all day.

    Negative dept.

  13. I liked Jomtien because it is what Pattaya used to be like. So now the contractor-city hall/kickback-concrete sh*tshow has arrived in Jomtien. Looks like some parking lots on the beach. Like that area just above police box at North end that used to be a nice sandy shady area. Replaced with a parking lot rarely used. "These people" just can't stop screwing this place up
