i understand if a farang owns the building and a Thai owns the land and the Thai dies...The farang has 90days to 'sell' the building (or retitle it properly).

1. Add more bts trains and cars per train
2. Reduce bts cost
3. Add significant parking (and convenient parking) at certain select stations.
4. Make parking free...even provide a 30% on fare for those parking at station
Lastly, try to eliminate as many right hand turns as possible. Make the traffic go straight then make then U-turn. This works great in USA. The traffic light can be green for 2 directions at the same time. huge benefit. may have to build U-turn bridges
finally, ask people why they drive their cars into the city. Must be a good reason.
Large parking lots outside the city with many tuk, taxis, vans, etc
-
Eliminate every thing that people enjoy is not the right answer. You do not want to make it like USA, etc
-
I always 'protest' to the driver before getting in the van or taxis. I tell them to drive safely. If they do not, i make them go to the side of the road and i talk to them even more. I never go with a GROUP OF PEOPLE.

Buying the stock with his own money seems to make him even more guilty

I think it is extremely important to note that he was a 'former' member. When did he quit being a member is very important to know. actually, i am only curious.

They are not cutting back...yet. They are saying...based on the article...Thai students are doing worse and worse on international tests. Therefore, they need to look at these 3 centers that might be totally failing. If they are failing it is probably the fault of the parents…but that is just my opinion.
In any case, after the evaluation the key step is...what do we do now to improve these centers or close some and start new ones that are effective.

Over 16 years, nearly 17,000 people were treated for zip line-related injuries including broken bones, cuts and sprains; most occurred in the last four years of the 1997-2012 study.
google it. it is happening frequently in USA also -
It should be looked as a discount for Thai citizens. In the USA, Virginia driver's license gives a person a huge discount on various state operated venures.
The assumption is that a citizen pays taxes with part of their tax money going to support the operation. If it is a private enterprise it is simply up to them. they can give
Thai people a discount if they desire.

Before i start a trip with a driver i tell him/her my expectation. They always drive better. I have talked very sternly to 2 taxi drivers. Made one stop. I looked him in the eyes. Then got out. The other driver said he was sorry and drove well. It is your life. You have the right. Do it.

I think wangtan village is the best. Gated....nice pool...good restaurant.

I think this article is accurate. I think Thais are very 'religious' in a very good way. Yes, they may do some wrong things occasionally but our whole way of life on this earth now almost requires those types of actions to counter balance all the 'non-religious' acts that they are exposed to.
I have not been exposed to a larger group of people who practice their religion better. Their beliefs are very good...especially about anger, happiness, help others, etc.
Finally, I know that the poorer countries and less educated people seem to be near the top of most religious people. I think we all know that and are not surprised that poorer people are more 'religious' then richer people.
However, I have a feeling western countries may have a populous that runs counter to that rule of thumb. On any given Sunday in USA the more intelligent people, in general, are in church while the less intelligent are not…but I do not know the facts.

I would bet at the 90% level this is a cafe problem not the thai tuna. There should be many more problems from difference sources. If not,,,then very likely the cafe mistreatment of the food.

You guys are all wrong—again. If Bob can manage the cash coming in he can become a wealthy man. I bought a bar for 700,000 bahts in Chiang Mai. First month profit – 89,000. After 5 months – and it was still low season – were making 150,000 bahts profit per month. Bars can be huge profit making business.
A neighbor bar is owned by a friend. He paid 500,000 for his bar and would not sell it for anything less than 2,500,000 bahts. The problem – few people have that kind of money.
All you need is 7000/night. I found we made 50% profit. That becomes 3500/night. That comes out to about 1.2 m bahts a year. Payback was only a few months. And let me add, in a good night you can sell 20,000. The profits are huge.
There is no reason to sell the bar if it is any good.
Bob---go every night and take the money. You can become rich if the bar does even a small amount of business. Most farangs are ignorant of the real Thai scene.

probably not true but some place some where it may be. The majority of bar girls (I owned a bar in Chiang Mai) are a lot more honest then most faranges.

I have made an observation after living here 9 years. It is 100% different (probably) then what you think.
The education system may be below average, etc, etc but the real problem in developing any skills in Thailand are 'parents'.
The responsibilty of educating your child is - the school? Nope. It is the parent's responsiblity. The whole country just does not get it. Parents simply are not with it. In many cases, they are also uneducated.
It really is the number 1 or close to it problem in Thailand - parents. They do a horrible job in raising children. Just be happy, feed them, no responsiblity, sleep with them until they are way too old for that, etc.

Thailand needs to hire western organizations to study their parenting practices. Parents in Thailand have horrible practices that is costing the children an education and a wholesome life. That is the problem. Huge changes need to be made before they even think about the education school system

One of the countries biggest problems - and maybe number 1 - is parenting skills. The schools may actually be good but the parenting of young thais is bad. One problem they do not see the consequences of their actions. Then a kid jumps over the seat trying to cause an accident. The root cause - oh boy. Discipline him. Forget it. The damage has been done. My wife and I are now divorced with a 5 year old daughter who hates me. Her parenting caused both to happen. I told her it would happen. It is quite sad. Never have a baby with a Thai woman if you are a farang. She will ignore you and raise the child the thai way. The child and you will suffer greatly.
-
talk to a lawyer. get his advice. talk to another lawyer. even a third if you feel a conflict. right now you have 50/50 with the kids. what happens after a divorce - hummmm. you may even have to hire a private eye to get the dirt.

Lesson of Life number (who knows): There are some issues worth fighting for. There are many others that I simply give in. This would be one of them. What do I have to do to stay on a flight? Funny---this happened to me in Japan for another reason. I asked - what can I do. The young japanese girl took my sissors, cut off the end of my toothpaste, taped the cut end, and said - 'ok you can board the flight'. that was a lot better than getting arrested. ooops, she did keep the sissors.
-
Because of many farangs it is best to pay the fine on the spot. All other ways become way too complicated for farangs.
-
Let's look at this differently - the way I look at it. Thbere are many farangs in Thailand. We get stopped by the police and we are pretty much confused since there could be a language difference, etc. Ok, so we deserve to get the ticket but I am heading home from BKK to Chaing Mai. How do I pay the ticket? Even if I get a ticket in Chiang Mai how do I pay the ticket. This can be quite confusing to people. It is a good system to accept the ticket on the spot and then pay for it at that time. That is good. How the police will handle the cash mught be an issue but the alternative can be quite horrible.

the thais did not have sophisticated DNA testing. They had the USA FBI do it to obtain the enthicity of the men. The British also have the DNA. Forget any switching. Way too complicated way too costly if caught - even the possiblility of life in prison for someone to play with this DNA. Maybe they made mistakes but they caught them.
This is not a huge island. The police are limited in what they know, etc. If I was at all critical of the police - which I am not - I would think the leasson learned is a need for the country to have an expert crime scene team. In western countries thay have these people. They would have flown immediately to the scene and taken over. It is too diificult and too expensive to have high level investiagtors on all the small islands and small towns for any country.
-
If the British have the crime scene DNA then take the 3 guys DNA. DO they match? Yes, of course they do. Now where do you think a switch was made? The police would have to have gotten the DNA from the 3 guys a long time ago to do a switch but that is difficult to do since the British have the bodies and have done their own DNA. The British will report yes they are the criminal or hey wait a second.
You can also take parent DNA to verify you have the childs DNA but that does not seem necessary. This whole scenario is way too complicated for anyone to fabricate.

A key question I have is where does Chiang Mai fit in?
