  1. I argue that this is ok for the police to do. Why? Tourist are in a foreign country. They do not know the language. they probably cannot find the police station. They may not fully understand the law...cannot read the signs. They can be very confused with a ticket...I was when I got one.

By taking the 200b on the spot is a God send for the tourist. It is a huge benefit for them. Keep it simple. teach a lesson and then let the tourist enjoy their holiday.

As long as it is not over priced and fair.

  2. This problem is not unique to Thailand. No fumes or smoke should be considered safe now. In the past, maybe ok but way too many chemicals are used to make things. I had a friend in USA who simply was burning some leaves but there was other things in the pile...like a plastic bottle. Avoid all smells...of course, the stuff that does not smell will get you also.

  3. Corruption prevents an organization from doing good things for the public. Health care could be expanded to support citizens health, road care could save lives, disasters can be avoided or reduced. etc etc

Corruption cost the citizens a better life. Interesting event about 15 years ago in Costa Rica. They have 0 tolerance for corruption (at that time). The president got a free plane ticket to go to USA to review WIFI. He came back and found himself under house arrest. He was removed from office (I think). Wooow. That is hard!

If it was my daughter, I would be very sorely tempted to pursue the case to teach her a lesson.

As soon as you pursue it there goes the rest of the money. she will need a lawyer, court costs, finds, etc. You pay or she goes to jail. is that what you want? Then she comes out of jail with nothing. You pay again. Is that good for you and your family? Bottom-line: Keep the legal system out of it if at all possible. It is a internal -family matter. Deal with it.

  5. Some western scumbag journalist wrote this article. The person who took the picture should be put in jail. The lady is a hero!!!

Everyone has had the pain of having to urinate. She had no choice other than get a horrible infection and spent few days in the hospital.

Finally, NO ONE WAS SHOCKED you stupid journalist. You made that up like all journalist who try to destroy a culture by putting words in the article that are totally wrong. Shame on you. Go back to America … J … from an American

  6. Beware!!! If they can solve the traffic jam it will only come back. Right!!! People riding bikes and taking BTS will stop doing that and drive their cars since the traffic problem has been fixed. In other words, major cities can never fix the problem…hummmm…I think that might be right.

My thoughts go back to Washington, DC. They have (probably) top 10 worse traffic in the world. They seem unable or unwilling to solve the problem...good luck Bangkok?

DC #1 problem is 'very limited parking' at mass transit stations. Secondly, if you can find a parking space it is way too expensive. Added to that the cost of the Metro transit train is very high. I drove my car to work through horrible conditions...it was cheaper…a lot cheaper.

I would totally focus on BTS and MRT ridership. Encourage tourist to take these alternative modes of transportation but it more than that.

Why not more trains and more cars per train. The cost of the train seems to be ok. Is there adequate parking at stations more than 10 (?) miles from the city?

Why does anyone drive their cars into the city? Give them a valid alternative considering cost, heat, convenience, etc.

If they still drive into the city then let them sit. Let them sit in traffic. It is their problem...right?

Finally, some major USA cities found a solution by eliminating right hand turns (left hand in USA). It is wrong to have only a green light for only one of the 4 lanes at an intersection. Make people either turn left or go straight. TO go to the right, make them go straight then … best case but more expensive…have fly overs to get them on the other side so they can then take a left turn. They can also be forced to go left then fly over the other lane send then go straight. P.S. fly over bridges are not that expensive.

  7. It is very sad to read that people who have a sad experience think about and actual kill others. In the end, they actually kill ‘themselves’ but it is even worse than dying. They live the rest of their lives locked up in a prison. They are called the walking dead. I think it is better not to be the walking dead. Get over the problem without violence. It will only hurt them ...and maybe destroy them forever.

Consequences of a person’s violent action are real and the person will never, never, never escape those consequences. I hope people can think about it now before it is too late. Violence is never the right answer.

  8. I accept the headline but feel it hides the real issues about the highways. Motorcycles account for a huge %. I think it is as high as 70% or more. Most are men age 18-25. Most alcohol related.

Secondly, the number must include those who die within xx days plus …

I hate when we take ‘seriously injured’ lightly. I am sure many would have preferred to have died. Also, they have a life of suffering.

So…how does Thailand rate for private car accidents, trucks, and commercial? Age group, alcohol, weather, non-driver fault.

Ok, do we don’t know but we may find Thailand is not really number 1.
