  1. For last few days there have been transparent jelly like squarish objects (about 1 cm square) in the sea at Patong Beach. Some of them are chained together and have a black dot in the center. Others are without the dot and are unattached. There are oodles of them in the sea, especially today (21 Dec 13). They don't sting. As you walk into the sea you can feel them and there are also many floating higher up. It is not an unpleasant feeling. But we are all puzzled about them. I have been coming to beach for more than 15 years and have never seen or felt these before. We are guessing they are eggs of some sort. But what?

Does anyone know what these things are?

  2. There is no place "open" inside the terminal. The smoking rooms are only usable in the international arrivals area (before you go through immigration and customs). The smoking rooms in the domestic departure area no longer are open.

Therefore, if you want to smoke after you arrive you must either do it in the international arrivals smoking rooms before you go through immigration.

Or exit the terminal and do it outside.

  3. In an article in the Bangkok Post on 27 February 2012, the provincial health office chief of Chonburi province is quoted as saying that horseshoe crab roe is poisonous during the breeding season (late January until June). This is usually eaten in yam khai maengda. It can be found in the southern provinces and i have eaten it many times in breeding season with no ill effects.

Does anyone know if this claim is well founded? Seems dubious to me. I have put this in the health forum. Perhaps it belongs in the Thai food forum.

  4. My address is Phangmueng sai kor , but that was the Road at my end , but it wasn't thru all the way, so that may be it . I've seen that name on google maps

and it doesn't sound like what the person, whom I know spoke ,when I inquired the name of him, he's a American who works on a Thai newspaper, speaks & reads & writes Thai......

I still think it should be called Jongceylon Blvd. Don't you?

    Why not ?

All my Thai friends call it (or at least the southern end) Soi Tan

  5. I fail completely to see what good this change is supposed to bring. Thank God they changed the direction of Ruamjai, it was madness (and entirely predictable). Making Sawartdirak one way is entirely unnecessary and is good for the petrol dealers but not for anyone else. Maybe this is good for people at the North end of town but for this of us coming from and going back south it is counterproductive.
