  1. To eachs own.

It must be understood that each person posting is writing from their own opinions and experiences therefore all statements should be taken from a neutral state of comprehension. We can't make people change how they think but we can certainly educate them about what can broaden their way of thinking.

All in all, good and relevant post hkthai.

  2. BronzeRider - thanks for the idea but have been keeping a journal for over 10 years already....

Sonthaya - I'll get in touch with you if I'm in Phuket for sure.

Penzman - totally agree with you, show me a hiking trail anywhere!

Thank you all for the replies!

  3. It's not hard to understand this, it's the lack of responsibility and common sense. Why is it hard to see the plain facts? If you're going out to party and get plastered have a DESIGNATED DRIVER.

For those that do not know what this means:

DESIGNATED DRIVER (noun): person that has been appointed to drive those in his/her party home safely and therefore responsible in preventing any tragic deaths of those in his/her party or inadvertantly harming any innocent pedistrians as well, with the major clause that he/she stays SOBER!

It doesn't matter what age you are or how educated, and definitely NOT because she doesn't have kids....it's pure COMMON SENSE. Bar girls are smart enough to take taxis even!

The problem here is that some people love their car too much (even more than themselves) to part with and so they would rather die in the comforts of it. Stop blaming others for your own or your girlfriends lack of self love and respect for life and sober up please.

Sorry to be so aggressively annoyed but it bothers me when the answer is looking at you straight in the face and you simply choose to ignore it.

  4. I understand your point D8O, but I've made my peace with it already, well I try. I remember the times when every mention of Thailand would be followed with some statement regarding prostitution or patpong, really gets on your nerves! But it is getting a LITTLE better with more concentration on the tourism side of it. In the end you can't change the perception of everyone but what you can do is to educate those foreigners that you do meet in hopes that they'll pass this info on to others and shed some light on the subject.

  5. Dealing with a lot of contractors myself in my profession i've learned that it never hurts to ask. You can possibly ask from the building owner/superindendent/real estate company for floor and building plans, aside from that they would have fire/electrical plans as well to see what facilities such as fire escapes or security are built in. All in all i would prepare yourself that in some cases these plans are probably in some dusty file cabinet for buildings older than maybe 5 years? It really depends on the property you're looking into. As Pepe recommended, take your time and look at lots of them or have a realtor do it for you. In the end, OldAsiaHand's Thai approach of what-I-don't-know-won't-make-me-feel-bad advice is the best-keep your valuables at a rented storage facility so if anything happens you're out of the building faster then they can say building! :o

    Happy condo hunting!

  6. After watching a cnbc live telecast interview/debate of the running candidates pr team it made me loose faith in even keeping up with the election....it was like a grade school campaign......"don't vote for him because he's a liar but I'll be your best friend".

Can I elect Oprah for president? hahahaha

  7. It happens but no one suppose to know that it happens and why it happens but everyone knows why it happens but pretend that they don't know why it happens but really does know why it happens and that is what it happens to be. :D

I'ts suppose to be one of those many issues/subjects (i.e. government, officials, the entire legal system etc...) that we are expected to overlook from time to time in Thailand. :o

  8. Thanx Wolfie, i've copied it fm there to here:

    Fire rages through Bangkok slum

A massive fire has broken out in a poor neighbourhood of Thailand's capital, Bangkok, forcing residents to flee into the streets with their belongings.

The BBC's Kylie Morris in Bangkok says the slum area is located near a wealthy neighbourhood, housing many embassies - no damage to these has been reported.

Some 200 two-storey wooden houses were ablaze, local radio said.

There is no word on any casualties so far, but fire trucks and emergency vehicles are arriving at the scene.
