  1. Americans fight for right to bear arms - at work

You mean now they can actually roll up their shirt-sleeves at work without offending anybody?

As far as firearms are considered I's under the impression Americans could already bring their

guns to work...and to shopping malls & movie theatres etc...lot's of this stuff make it to the papers.

There are so many guns in America that statistically speaking it is amazing how few people are killed by someone with a gun. If you want to ban something because of deaths its use can cause, there are lot more things out there that kill more...cigarettes, cars and slippery bathtubs to name a few.

  2. And yes, the Democratic Party has many solutions to the problems of guns in the United States, but as long as the NRA remains strong and well funded - and with Republicans in majority control of the U.S. House of Representatives - we won't see any more Democratic Party passed gun measures such as the one we got while Bill Clinton was prez - a ban on the sale, purchase, ownership, possession of military assault weapons.

Democrats also support gun ownership. Believe it or not, Democrats hunt too, especially rural Democrats. Guns are just plain cool to shoot and I've seen your typical peace-loving, anti-war Euro get all giddy after firing one. So it is ignorant to claim that only right-wing Republicans like guns.

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 wasn't about "military" assault weapons. Because of its name, people tend to think the ban was about keeping AK-47s and M-16s off the streets when mostly it banned certain features of semi-automatic rifles (types of grips) and types of removable magazines.

  3. Hardly wait for the replies to this. wink.png

They are pushing the self defense apect of this, but there are a lot of hunters in those states and it can be convenient to carry equipment to hunt before or after work.

laugh.pngclap2.gifcheesy.gif Funniest thing I've heard on a while, thank you

Not that funny at all or strange. I worked in a small factory in a small town in Georgia, USA and some of the workers were big time hunters. Even had a woman come interview for a secretary job and all she could talk about was getting back to her deer stand.

  4. That emptiness of purpose left showy photo-ops in all three countries, with the president flirting around with Thailand's photogenic Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and visiting the Buddha statues, effectively trivializing Thailand as a tourist trap instead of a major trading partner and the U.S.'s oldest ally in Asia.

On his trip to Cambodia, a country he claimed didn't deserve a visit due to its strongman government, first lady Bun Rany greeted Obama with a traditional "sampeah" pressed-hands greeting reserved for servants, a little dig that was probably lost on him but not to Asians

  5. 3) Yes Hamas has done a poor job of governing and has done little to improve relations with Israel. However, your comment about Hamas building bomb shelters is laughable. Israel is using warplanes and tactical missile strikes that occur in seconds. Hamas has no way to know when and from where a strike is coming. Israel is able to use bomb shelters because the rockets are in the air for some time.

Hamas has done a horrible job of governing. How many years ago did Israel pull completely out of Gaza? 6? 7? Given a golden opportunity to build a functioning society what did they do from almost day one? Attack Israel. The people who cry about the blockade should ask themselves where Hamas gets all those rockets they shoot at Israel? Are they really surprised that Israel put up a blockade? As for Hamas not knowing when the attacks against them will come, I think you have it backwards. They know full well when they will be attacked...soon after they launch rockets into Israel.

  6. What it comes down to is Benghazi-Gate is now over. The blame will be placed solely on the shoulders of Gen. Petraeus and the film maker is already back in jail.

Nothing will come of the facts that the Clinton/Obama vaudeville act had months of advance notification the Consulate was poorly constructed, completely indefensible, an Embassy security detail was inadequately manned and the Ambassador was virtually alone on 9/11. It will be conveniently forgotten the Ambassador had called for help for months and had called for help early on in the attack.

    Maybe not,...

Ed Klein stated that the Clinton’s legal team told him that there were documents that showed President Obama denied the requests for additional security at the Benghazi Consulate despite Hillary Clinton’s request for more security. He also said that Bill Clinton wants to release the documents to exonerate his wife.

  7. The implication is not that anyone didn't answer the "bat-cellphone", but that they did answer it and gave orders not to do anything to save the lives of our people. I get it...the last thing they (our gov't) wanted was another drone strike killing innocents in the Middle East in a country that we helped. Of course, that should have been the second-to-last thing they wanted. The last thing they should have wanted was four of our people getting slaughtered including the ambassador.

    Chuck,

I'm sure the last thing they wanted was four Americans dying needlessly, and let's hope whatever mistakes led to it get fixed.

But I have yet to see evidence that says they did anything but trust the intelligence from an Agency that got it wrong.

You addressed Chuck but you quoted my post so I'll reply...we have seen no evidence because the Obama administration has been covering up. They have been "investigating" for two months yet have shown us nothing while CNN & Fox reporters and congressmen are finding information on their own and telling the people.

  8. Not when

I didn't see Republicans politicizing 9-11 and blaming it all on Bush and Rice. I didn't see Reps blaming the dozens of US deaths in Lebanon on Reagan and his Sec. of State (was it Baker?). Benghazi is pure politicizing and it's ugly. Find a real issue or get a life. It's ugly to go around with a shitstick for weeks, trying to get it to stick to someone.

Are you a 9/11 Truther who thinks the gov't misled the people about what happened on 9/11?

The "dozens" of dead in Lebanon under Reagan was over nearly 300 dead and I don't remember Reagan blaming that on a video either.

The admin's response to Benghazi was merely covering up incompetence or negligence, all to mislead the public before an election. There's a lot of shit on that stick and it belongs to those in the White House.

  9. To date, Nancy Pelosi was when speaker still the most powerful woman in American history until a woman is elected president.

On Hillary, if forced to make a bet, I would bet she WILL run.

Sure. But has Pelosi come anywhere near attaining the Presidency? Could she? No and no. So that's what I mean about Hilary having done what no woman ever has.

As Speaker of the House of Representatives she was next in line for the presidency after the Vice President. So if anything had happened to Bush & Cheney, we would have had President Pelosi. Scary.

  10. Seems like my "ilk" are still wanting the truth.

Obama’s battle on Benghazi far from finished

By Shaun Waterman-The Washington Times Thursday, November 8, 2012

President Obama’s victory in the general election this week does not silence those who have been criticizing his administration’s response to the deadly Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

The critics, which include of former military and intelligence personnel, conservative commentators and grieving relatives, are set to redouble their efforts, highlighting what they call the administration’s failure to give straight answers to questions about security at the consulate and official actions before, during and after the attack.

“We are going to keep the pressure on,” said Fred W. Rustmann Jr., from the advocacy group OpSec.

OpSec, a military term meaning “operational security,” is a group of former special operations forces and intelligence veterans who campaigned during the election to raise national security issues about Mr. Obama, though as a 501© 4 organization it was not allowed to campaign for or against the election of anyone.

You know Chuck, I wish to make something extremely clear. I loathe governments that conceal information from the electorate, and if I thought for a minute that Hillary saw "CIA Ops Center" on her bat-cellphone and rolled over and went back to sleep, she would deserve the criticism she gets.

The implication is not that anyone didn't answer the "bat-cellphone", but that they did answer it and gave orders not to do anything to save the lives of our people. 11. Followers of this thread are posting links to stuff they read and see on Fox News, The Blaze, and World Nut Daily.

In other words, the Alternative Universe Media.

How about CBS News? Are they a legit news organization in your opinion? They released more tape from their 60 Minutes interview with Obama from Sept 12th asking why he refused to call it a terror act - and this was after Obama's Rose Garden "acts of terror" general statement...

KROFT: Mr. President, this morning you went out of your way to avoid the use of the word terrorism in connection with the Libya Attack, do you believe that this was a terrorism attack?

OBAMA: Well it’s too early to tell exactly how this came about, what group was involved, but obviously it was an attack on Americans. And we are going to be working with the Libyan government to make sure that we bring these folks to justice, one way or the other.

  12. Remembering the activities of previous Administrations such as the Iran/Contra affair may be some aspects of the reports prove to be accurate. But why are so many security consultants/experts, in collaboration with the media, so intent on detailing US military assets, decision making processes, response times etc. Just makes zero sense to me feeding the enemy with so much info in the public domain; bordering on treasonable activity.

Security leaks in the Obama Administration just to score political points is another scandal.

  13. What I find disingenuous is the convienient amnesia that comes about from GOP'ers on debt when it wasn't an issue for the GOP 4 or 8 years ago.

I'm Republican and I remember when the Republicans lost control of Congress in the mid-term 2006 elections (btw - which means the Dems were in control for the two years before the collapse). When they lost, I said, "Good. They've been spending way too much. Maybe this loss will remind them that they are supposed to be the party against wild spending". Have they learned, really? Or are they just pretending now that they are in the minority? I'm afraid that once they get in the majority they will start their spending habits again. But that's just what I think might happen. All of us already KNOW what the Democrats have done and will continue to do - spend, spend, spend - and pay for it with $90 billion in additional taxes on the rich. Woo-hoo.

Two seperate philisophies here as far as I can see.

Dems: Pump priming the economy. Keep going until it starts. Varying views on the size of government. In the meantime, try and close the gap between outgoings and tax receipts.

The stimulus pumped nearly $900,000,000,000 into the economy. Where are the jobs - including the "shovel ready" ones? Why is GDP tanking from it's 2010 3.5% levels? Where are the great infrastructure projects like the Hoover Dam (which Obama himself used as an example)?

  15. What triggered these attacks.

I reckon the film is inflammatory but it's just a film made by an Israeli in L.A..

    http://www.washingto...f8eb_story.html

The two-hour movie, “Innocence of Muslims,” cost $5 million to make and was financed with the help of more than 100 Jewish donors, said Bacile, who wrote and directed it.

The film claims Muhammad was a fraud. An English-language 13-minute trailer on YouTube shows an amateur cast performing a wooden dialogue of insults disguised as revelations about Muhammad, whose obedient followers are presented as a cadre of goons.

You know, I've read through the first pages of this thread, and the other one from when the attack first happened and I can't find mention of it being a "terrorist attack". Maybe someone else will have more luck.

  16. From what I've been told by some rednecks here in Issan the only impartial news service is Fox news. Unsure if this is 100% true however.

I hope that you are joking Angsta or being ironic. Saying that Fox News is a source of truth is like saying Pravda always told the truth or Hitler always told the truth. Fox News is one of the biggest bunch of liars on the entire planet and that's saying something as there are a whole bunch of liars around. Fox News are masters of the art of the Big Lie, tell it big and tell it often and there will always be some poor saps around who actually believe them. The fact that Fox News at present has the highest number of viewers of any US news channel just shows how many gullible people there are in the USA. Plenty of decent honourable Americans around but you won't find any of them regularly watching Fox News!

Spoken like someone who has never or only rarely watched it.

When I was on Samui I used to take part in a local pub quiz every week. One of our toughest competitors each week was a group of liberal ladies from the USA and Canada. They were a sharp bunch. One day, the picture round was "Famous People Named Sean (and its various spellings)". We switched answer sheets to check scores and I was shocked to see that they didn't recognize Sean Hannity of Fox News. I even asked afterwards and they didn't even recognize his name. ANY self-respecting North American liberal knows who their "enemy" is, and Sean Hannity is the most shameless right-wing talking head on TV.

Back to the topic, I'm sure Obama will win. Things are looking good for Romney in the polls, but just like the recent Supreme Court decision on Obamacare, conventional wisdom is often wrong. I think I'll move back to the USA just so I can leave the country after he wins his second term. :)
