  1. Why not use the sponsors of this site, or has anyone had bad experience with them ?

I have used Sunbelt for my Visa a few years ago and they were horrible! Their understanding of Thai law, the documents I needed and the rest of the process was entirely flawed despite my working with a "senior and experienced" employee (A Brit I think). I used Siam Legal in Times Square and they were great. (it will be interesting to see if this post is permitted to remain here.....)

  2. Want to take a boat from our hotel to Ruammit and then trek around on elephants for 2-3 hours and then a boat back. Is anyone familiar with Ruammit? Can we just arrive and take some elephants w/ guides on our own? Easy to do?

    Thanks!

  3. A few times I have been down Soi 22 and Soi 20 and i have seen this old trampy farang.

And I do mean tramp dirty clothes sleeps on the bench and has a stick which with he scratches Thai writing on the road surface or on the pavements,

I gave him some coffee and a cake the other night, but he would not say much and what he did say i couldn't understand!

    Anyone else met him ?

    Colino

Nice of you to care,i imagine a lot of people will be falling on hard times soon.Never hurts to show some compassion, the world needs more. :o

I totally agree. So often we just walk on by some really desperate people without so much as passing a glance. A guy with a rooster approached my daughter and I the other night and asked for 20 baht. I gave it to him and someone came up and said he scams everyone. Those are mistakes worth making, I think. I just don't do it often enough. Harder times ahead for all.... It would make an interesting thread by the way: should we help beggers on the street? The ones with kids? There are a number of sides there...

  4. Where can I go for single yoga lessons? I don't want to sign up for a package or membership, just want to go for a lesson here and there when I feel like it. Would be good if classes are in English but don't mind Thai since it's just imitating the teacher.

I know of a woman on Suk Soi 11 who does this. Send me a PM and I'll provide her details

  5. It rained early Sunday morning too, around 6am.

    ===

The blackout was intentional I believe. We received a note from the building management that a power cut was scheduled for yesterday and then initiated. However after it was cut they decided that because of the raid it would be better to wait until a dray day: power back on.

  6. Molly Malone's Irish Pub in Convent Silom has a lunch deal. 199 baht for any of the following during 12 and 2pm everyday including weekends.

    Fish & Chips

Rib Eye Steak egg and chips

Pork Chop & Onion Gravy with mash

    Bangers & Mash

    BBQ pork ribs

    Corned beef and cabbage

Irish Smoked Bacon Loin with mash

thats good value for an irish pub. the portions are the same as the normal menu.

Man but the food is awful! Maybe cheap. But quite bad

  7. In my experience make sure you learn how to READ thai script....as far as I'm concerned you cant speak and understand thai properly unless you can read the vowels, consonants and tonal characteristics of a word.

If you have the time (3 hrs/day for four weeks) then check out Unity Thai (UTL) in Times Square building. Otherwise Pro Language (also Times Square) especially if you can get Kru Eid as your teacher.

I don't agree that you need to study Thai Script if you want to speak with your in-laws. In fact NONE of the Thai language schools even teach it until module 3. The best books/CDs are by Benjawan Becker. I have a whole bunch of intro books/cds that I'll let go for a song. Send me a PM and we can arrange.

  8. We have a ten year old at Shrewsbury and we are thinking of moving her to Harrow. Anyone have any experience they can share? Our daughter is well ahead of her age (native English) and because Shrewsbury is >70% non-native English speakers (nothing wrong in itself) we are concerned that the (non-math) classes aren't as advanced as they would be if they had 100% english speakers. Any thoughts?

  9. Am looking for a quiet (relatively so) anywhere off Sukhumvit between Asoke and Ploenchit where there are a (non free lancing) few ladies to chat up. I used to love Bus Stop on Nana before the renovated it 3 years ago and haven't been back since. Any suggestions?

  10. Seems good value on Agoda - B1750.

Can anyone confirm if this place is good value and guest friendly?

Is it a little too far from Nana?

    Cheers.

Not from nana at all, perhaps 10 mins by taxi during those kind of hours. unsure about the friendliness of guests though :o

Sorry but you really can't get to Nana from there by Taxi unless you go all the way around Rama 4 or New Petchaburi. Still, its quite close: Only about a ten minute walk. CP is okay just don't get a room looking over Wireless Road or that construction site noise will drive you nuts

  11. It was a great explanation indeed. I have also never seen it before: not at Bed, not at Q Bar, not at Vertigo. My suspicion is that it allows them to list drinks at one "low" base price and then pad the final price with the add-ons.

  12. Same scene: Guy-gal ratio 40:60

    Thai-Farang Guy ratio: 0-100

    Working vs non-working girls: 80-20

    Average age girls: 26

Average quality girls (0-4 drinks): 7.5/10

Average quality girls (5+ drinks): 12/10 (ho ho)

    Average age guys: 45

    Mood: Quiet (for Spasso)

    Value for money: Nope!

  13. Bought some drinks last night at Erawan Hyatt Spassp and noticed bill this morning carried the usual 10% SC and 7% Vat but also an "E-Tax" of about 12%. Have never seen that before. Does anyone know what it is? My bill is attached.
