  1. Our twin daughters (same deal-wife Thai) attended Shrewsbury for two years and are now in a Montessori School in the states. Shrewsbury is very nice and we were impressed with the standards. Its also cheaper than some of the others. Drop me a note at [email protected] and I can tell you more. Happy to speak by phone as well (West Coast time)

  3. Good question. I have always looked for them as well but to no avail. Even in those much nicer "Green" taxis. Same thing with kids' car seats. Hard to find. Thai friends love the idea but are not interested it seems, and we got into a terrible accident on the way home from BNH with our new-born twins! (no one was hurt thankfully!). I always tell the taxi driver that I am a bad luck passenger at having experienced three accidents and they always slow down

  4. Best (and reasonable) is Bamrungrad Hospital. Dr. Saisuda. She speaks great english and will tell you exactly where you stand (i.e. she will not try to sell you something that you do not need). The place is impossibly clean. Well worth it

  5. If you want to benchmark against the high end, go to Arts on Soi Patpong #2 (the "japanese" soi)

Raja's on Soi Nana is a favorite among expats and they do decent work. I'd probably go there

  6. I got a few weeks off, so the thai wife and I thought we might go to Hawaii. We want to go in the next few days if possible.

Is there any carrier that will fly direct ? If not, what carrier provides the quickest and most convenient route ?

The fastest same-airline way is to take UA

United Airlines via Tokyo. If you want to visit LA as well, you would be better off flying UA BKK-LAX with a stop in HNL.

  7. I know a couple of people who have used them and are satisfied with their service, never business class though. Have you looked at Eva air, their evergreen class (I think) is virtually the same as business class but much cheaper.

Eva's product is called Deluxe Economy. It's much better than many airlines economy bit their true business class is well behind most airlines. I'd fly Eva's Deluxe Econ but not Buz Class.

  8. hello,

its my first time posting something in this forum.

i found lots of information already, but now my own special case:

me and my husband are planning to move to thailand at the end of this year.

we have our own company. we want to expand to thailand and open a 2nd office there.

now, the question is: where shall we live?

we are living in hong kong now, but getting tired of the tiny appartments and the horrible air pollution coming from china (and HK itself). so we are looking for a spacious nice appartment (around 120-150 squaremetres) which is easily accessible by skytrain and MRT.

we prefer to live in a more quite area with more green around us and hopefully better air.

bangkok sounds interesting to us because supermarkets, gyms etc. are closeby.

also, our suppliers are in bangkok, around pratunam area, we need to go there at least

    once a week.

i heard that the Thonburi area could be nice.

we will also need to have an office and employ a few people. it would be great if they office is very nearby, may even be in the same building or neighbour building.

where would you guys suggest us to live? if in bangkok, which area?

if outside of bangkok, where exactly?

we dont have a car in hong kong, the public transportation system here is great. do we need to buy a car in thailand? is there any need for it?

i appreciate your help and ideas.

    thanks,

    pumi23

Get a condo in the Sukhumvit 21-39 area and an office anywhere along the BTS Skytrain. If you can organize your living and working space so you can easily access the BTS, you will (1) Not need a car (2) save a huge amount of time (3) Attract and retain staff.

  9. I'm still slaving away in the states and wondering what you lucky bastards do on your Staurday nights..yes even, and particularly, you married blokes. Be nice its the freakin weekend.

My weekends nights are sedate. Foot massage. Practice Thai by chatting up the gals. Good spicy Thai dinner with a cold Kloster beer and home by 9PM. I treasure my (traffic free) weekend days in Bangkok too much to lose them to a hangover

  10. Heading to Bangkok in the Summer and spending a few nights in Bangkok. Was there last Summer and had a couple of visits to the Q bar, it was good. Does anyone know of any other "Top" rated bars in Bangkok like Q bar?

Q Bar staff are some of the rudest employees in all of Thailand (and finding rude staff is no easy chore here)

I'd also go with Tenderloins if you don't mind the smoke. Hyatt Spasso bar on Sat night is a sight for sore eyes

  11. Expat Friends,

I interviewed a part time maid today : excellent english, 10+ of experience of being a maid/babysitter/cook. I need her to cook dinner and do very small chores ( about 3 hrs a day) Monday through Friday. She is asking 2,500 Baht a week for basically 15 hrs of work - is that too much? She also seemed very hesitant about doing our small laundry (socks and underware). But her English is excellent and she certainly seemed professional. Please give me your opinion.

I also think it is too much, but as others have said it might actually be her rate is if she is working full-time. I have had four maids over the years and none were reluctant to wash anything of mine...
