I am okay with all bars going to ashes, and carry the bar girls all together, make them understand in the hard way life is not easy. There was a few attempts to abolish prostitution in Thailand, all failed, now it seems we got a point. I couldn't care less for it. I heard that Thailand want only the wealth, what a great time to shutdown it all. Revamp Pattaya!

I'm pretty sure the bar girls already know life is not easy and don't need any further educating on the hardships of life.

As for prostitution, well it's been around from the dawn of time. Supply and demand will always be there.

I think you don't entirely understand the rules and there are 22 of them. Read them and then post again.

Below is the full list of 22 rules that pubs, bars, and entertainment venues must follow:

In West Australia most of these are being implemented and followed already in pubs that have opened up. You book your seats and time online. Yes not as crowded but you can go to the pub and have a drink and a meal. It's first steps to returning to normal. No one is complaining.

Rule 10 could be done better such as black (or white) boards with the menus on them which eliminates single use waste.

Rule 11 makes more sense to me to serve bottles rather that risk getting a contaminated unwashed glass. Remember the outbreak in Thonglor.

There is probably 4 silly rules but I'm pretty sure after your second beer you have learnt to live with them.

    1. Control and restrict the number of people entering the premises to maintain social distancing measures.

    2. All staff and customers must undergo temperature checks

    3. Ensure there is an adequate amount of hand sanitizer gel available at the entrances and exits

    4. A maximum of five people may sit together as a group

    5. Ensure that there is enough space for queuing customers before entry

    6. Each table must have at least two meters distance or a partition installed

    7. Guests must maintain social distancing with at least one meter between each other

    8.  Ensure proper ventilation throughout the premises

    9. Dancing and singing by customers is prohibited

    10. Replace all menus with a single-use sheet of paper

    11. Serve drinks in glasses only – no bottles

    12. All staff must wear both face masks and face shields

    13. Install a partition between the performance area and guests

    14. Shouting, wandering, and gathering is prohibited on the premises

    15. Performers and musicians must wear face shields

    16. Provide personal cutlery for each guest

    17. Undertake cleaning of the premises every 30 – 60 minutes

    18. Tables, chairs, doorknobs, counters, and other frequently used and touched surfaces must be sanitized daily

    19. Competitions and group activities are prohibited

    20. Bar games, including darts and pool, are prohibited

    21. Maintain social distancing in smoking areas

    22. Product presenters/promotion staff may not sit with guests

The problem is profit! No profit no business! So these business owners have an overhead and need to do minimum amount of business to see a profit at the end of the month. They are asked to take a double hit, 50% less business and increased cost to meet new requirements. To add insult to injury, there consumer market is shut outside country.

My daughter is running our bar in the US, in a State that still has restrictions, distancing, curfew, masks, no pool, no singing... she’s working just to pay rent on the lease and overhead... no wage no profit. If things don’t change we’ll loose the business.

So this isn’t BS on the owners part, it’s just business, or lack of it.

Don't know about the rest of Thailand but Bangkok Sukhumvit area bars, pubs, restaurants, go go etc have been running at about 50% for the last 5 years compared to say 10 years ago. The place has been suffering a slow death for a number of reasons.

  4. Was just re-thinking the Covid situation in Thailand. As mentioned by others when you compare the statistics to traffic accident deaths or injuries Covid is insignificant in Thailand. Covid has probably saved more lives in the last 3 months from traffic accidents by people being locked down. Songkran typically see's 300 plus deaths in a matter of days. They dodged that bullet by having lock down. You just wonder why so paranoid when they have had no locally transmitted infections for almost a month. As another post pointed out much of the early outbreak was from an army related sports event at Lumpini. Has Covid been an issue throughout the army? Pure speculation here but it would be covered up and anyone sick would be treated at an army hospital. Old mate at the top being in charge would for sure be not willing to advertise there is problems amongst the ranks. There is very little trust in the present government and many of their decisions are questionable but never a sensible answer given. Here in Australia we have had double the amount of cases and deaths and besides one state most are getting back to normal.

Not really sure about all this bleating to be honest. How about manning up and just accepting it for what it is? As long as the family is safe and has means of cash etc, time will soon pass before the blissful re-union.

Did out war heroes in the 1st and 2nd world war, and more recently serviceman in Afghanistan and Iraq start bleating about not being with the family for a few months, and all while risking their own lifes?

I agree with you Keyser. Its hard times and people need to adapt. Even today armed forces do it tough away from their families. Thai conscripts always away from their families. In normal times there are hundreds of thousands or more people working in industries around the world that separate them from their families for extended periods. I've worked with Thai's around the world in holes like Libya away from their families for a year. Better conditions for them in Taiwan but still away from their families. Filipino and Indonesian mariners who are away from their families 8-10 months a year. Indian labourers in Singapore on 2 year contracts away from their families living in less than ideal conditions. There is dozens of expats I know in Australia and around the world right now already been away for 3 months or more and struggle to get home. They suck it up and get on with it. Colleagues confined to a hotel in India for nearly 2 months now and they were already in country before that for 3 months. Winding the clock back 30 years I worked on ships for 3 and 4 months at a time. No internet, Facebook, Skype, messenger then. We wrote letters if we had the chance. Marisat phone calls 20Dollars a minute so you never made them. People these days can't go a day without looking at Facebook or the internet. Its a different world now and jeez people are getting soft. Petitions and go fund me?? People just don't realize how easy they have it. Atrocities and hardships continue around the world and the privileged feel hard done by from this current pandemic. It's never easy being away from family. There are probably millions of people in industry who miss countless birthdays of their children and family, Christmas or other religion celebrations, anniversaries, funerals, births, marriages, new year celebrations and so on. They do so because they work to provide a better future for their families but at a cost of being away from them.

It's really not that hard. It's only been a few months and it will improve. Man up and suck it up. Stay safe, stay healthy and the day will come when you are reunited.

    3 killings were for revenge.

As to the rest of the victims, in for a penny in for a pound right? Didn't matter after the first three as the consequences to him are ultimately the same.

He said he went on the rampage to start a war. Most likely meaning some sort of uprising against the rich elites.

All clearly stated on his Facebook.

"Most likely meaning some sort of uprising against the rich elites".

Did I miss something or do you have super CSI powers to make this assumption.

If your assumption is correct I'd sort of think he would go after the rich elites rather than random shootings. But I have no idea. I just rely on facts from real news authorities and make no assumptions.

I certainly don't see the intelligence when I happen to accidentally book a 4* or 5* hotel frequented by Chinese

I agree with you. I worked for a Chinese company before and everything was fake including their so called intelligence. All their certificates showed highly educated but they were far from it.

This guy must have a mental disorder. Such people are a shame for other foreigners. I am upset too if someone doesn't stop at a pedestrian crossing. But his behavior is extreme.

Hi Beggar. I had similar thoughts as you at first and thought he might be taking too many female hormones but then I thought what if a child was knocked down. Even so lucky this guy was not hurt either. His tantrum has caught the media at least and just maybe it might trigger some people to think. Unlikely but you never know. Agree it doesn't paint us foreigners in a good light but hopefully the media can put a positive spin on it.

So many things are so wrong with this story, Shark Fin soup, urinating in public, a gun in a car unsecured, people playing with guns, sad loss of an innocent life who was a victim of unfortunate and careless circumstances at the wrong time and with the wrong people...

So many things are so wrong with this story.  Yep totally agree. You forgot to mention "vice president of the Thai-Chinese trade and industry association" who appears to be Wichai Manekitikun, aged 44.

Pure speculation but was Wichai too eager to please the couple as part of his role as VP, or was he too eager to be pleased by the poor unfortunate 23 year old which may have sparked some jealousy from Seng W of who there seems to be very little reported on.

"He offered to take the couple home to a condo in the Rama 3 area"? You would assume VP Wichai was entertaining some Chinese dignitary based on Wichai's title and it is rather unusual that they would need to be taken to a Condo. One would assume they were already staying a decent hotel being of such status. It would be interesting to learn more about this Seng W character. Hopefully the truth is sort and appropriate action taken for the loss of an unfortunate young life. Many similar stories like this already in Cambodia where Chinese are slowly taking over places such as Sihanoukville and getting swept under the carpet .

  10. Sorry I didn't read the whole story. Get bored easily with TV basher comments. Has there been proven negligence from the driver. If not I would not persecute him so quick. He probably did not tighten the wheel nuts same as you majority didn't on your car. Also strange that six wheel nuts came loose that rotate to tighten in the same direction as wheel rotation making it harder for them to come loose. (Left hand wheel nuts on trucks are left hand thread for same reason). A truck is different from your car. You will not feel a loose outer wheel (dual wheels) or shredding tyre unless on your steering wheels. These trucks stop frequently at weigh stations and are documented. I wonder if the drivers get out when at these stations. They are a good record of where he came from and how far he travelled. Could indicate how often he stopped where at which point he should have done a visual of tyres and wheel nuts. This could then possibly be an indicator pointing to negligence. You need facts before hanging someone.

  11. After moving back to Australia after 20 years in Thailand something I've noticed is the plastic wheel nut lock devices on commercial vehicles (pickups) and trucks. Not sure if this is government requirement or pushed from companies such as mining or civil works. So many new rules since I've been gone. Anyway it would be a good and cheap and visible way of ensuring wheel nuts do not come loose.

Google search "plastic wheel nut locks". Australia.

    RIP and condolences to family.

Let's look for solutions rather than blame. Just because we live here we don't need to copy everything from their culture. Look for simple and achievable ways to improve it.

  12. RIP

Makes me think more about finger print door locks. Seems a quick search shows they are readily available and something decent for around $300.

The condo I lived in Singapore had a 24 hour locksmith available. But security was also very good and only two apartments per floor so easy to hide a spare key.

Maybe this tragic incident will make us all think a bit should we find ourselves in the same situation.

Remember the Soi Cowboy bar owner and well known local who had a similar death maybe a few years ago. Condolences to the family.

I think you should take some time to read about the history of Thailand. Origins of Thai people,  historic border shift agreements with neighbouring countries and today's demographics of cultural ethnicity within Thailand should be some things to consider before making a statement that comes across as unresearched to say the least.

Where are they going to ship half the population ?

Libya. There they can learn from the leaders of traffic accident deaths (WHO stats per capita 2013-2015) and then return to Thailand and pass on their experience  so Thailand can be number one.

You got to change the culture first before you will see any results. This won't happen for another 2 generations at least.
