  1. Hi all,

I'm looking for Celestion and/or Eminence 12" guitar speakers.

Living in CNX, they are not available here, even on order (can't do!)...

So you, guys who know, may I find this stuff in BKK? If yes (and I guess it is), please, may you give me some adresses, infos or some thai web sites where I could find this?

Thanks a lot in advance for your inputs.

  2. Thanks for the tip, rebo.

I'm an adept of Nana Screw (beginning of Atsadaton Road), but maybe it's time for me to change :ermm:

I have to give a try to this "Chiang Mai's best screw shop"!

  3. Hi friends,

    Thanks for the tips.

Paul, I suppose I may locate in my mind the place you describe. Good to know... I'm going to give it a try.

Copper grease is a very efficient grease used in marine (and submarine) applications. As well it is conductive... Very useful IMO on spark plug threads.

Good too when you go for some watery off-road trip...

  4. Thanks to all,

OK, I'm not such a king to type "without" the types written on the keyboard, so I suppose I have to order one AZERTY keyboard in France and mail it to here...

Hiding the types on a keyboard to learn typing! I surely understand it may be frustrating... as well a good practice, but definitely not an option for me  too lazy for that!

  5. Hi all,After my home have been burgled, I had to buy back (among other things) a new computer in Pantip Plaza. Unfortunately (for me!), they all come with US/THAI keyboard (QWERTY): I,m not able to write accents on vowels and make a lot of keyboard faults...Anyone knows if a PC "french keyboard" may be available somewhere in CNX?Thanks in advance,Gobs

  6. Hi fm,

Thanks, but no matter for the help: I do appreciate when someone is ready to help me too!.. :)

You can phone to the secretary, she will relay...

Great idea to rent and test the 2 bikes you like! They are so, so different!, you should be able to make your own idea/feeling about how they ride...

    Cheers,

    Gobs

  7. Hi fm2002,

About the 2 F650GS I know for sale here in CNX, they are from 2007 (on the road on May and registered -green book- on October), have about 13000/15000 km on the clock, IMHO in good condition (but not mint) and ride well...

I choosed the red one in this time because:

    1) I do wanted a red one,

    2) I felt it was the best one though its 17500 km...

I'm not a fool to buy a red bike if I feel it is worse than the other black and titan blue ones... :)

    The 3 bikes for sale:

    post-41729-1251824168_thumb.jpg

2 or 3 weeks ago, I met the seller. The asking price is now 360 KB... maybe 350... The seller, Khun Jeerapab (Mrs) is a hard trader! She sticked to her prices with smiles. You have to smile and be "charming" too, and have solid arguments to get a bargain! If you want her phone number, please PM me...

Green books registered in BKK. No problem: I've done the change to CNX without any hassle: I will get my new plate/number next week! So just papers and some (long?) time...

If not actually done, front and rear tyres had to be changed (maybe 6000/8000 Bahts), rear sprocket too (maybe 1500 Bahts), and batteries were at the end of their life (maybe 2500/3500 Bahts)... Nothing broken, torn or missing... Good bikes IMHO. And I insist IMHO: what could be right for me could be wrong for you, and I/you understand that. I don't want any problem in the future because this or that! I just try to help if needed...

    Cheers,

    Gobs

  8. Hi all,

I feel your "project" very interesting Tony... It could give some ideas to others...

    About Metzeler Tourance.

I ride with these tyres on my F650GS (as original mount) and, though I'm not an expert, I have a good feeling with them. As Says thaicbr they are "soft" tyres and so have a good grip on tarmac and their softness/design "stick" on dirt roads, and they don't induce heavy rolling noises. But obviously they are not enduro tyres.

They wear very quicly if you drive your bike strong on tarmac... I bought R&F for about 8000 Bahts here in CNX.

I was too recommended to mount Bridgestone: less soft, longer life and a bit cheaper, and said as good as the Metzeler... Don't know... I stay with what I and the bike feel OK... Maybe am I too much European? :D

As says and explains too thaicbr, dual-purpose tyres are narrow and high profiled. No worry, they well do their job, as far as you don't use your ER6 as if you were cornering a racing day!

If I were you (but I'm not! :) ) and if I have the money (but for this I've not :D ), going the way you seem to choose, I should mount a 19" wheel on the front side, adapting the discs and mudguard... Like this you can mount the real dual-purpose F&R tyres, give you a bit better (+?/°:? don't know in English!) "not-angle-but-like-angle" to your fork, a bit more wheelbase and give you some more clearance under the engine (? 1" and more because the tyre sizes), all things better for the "soft" off-road you are speaking of...

Mounting a rear tyre on the front wheel seems to me not a good idea... Look at a Tourance and you will understand F&R have not the same specs, designs and engineering... Meaning not done for the same work! I suppose bike handling may suffer of this in case of emergency!

Mmmmmh, I'm going to follow your project with interest, Tony.

    Cheers,

    Gobs

  9. Maybe not directly related with the posts here, but... in fact no matter the bike...

First of all, just have the guts!

As Superstylefactor did it on a KSR 110: 9000 km from Singapore to Laos and way back to Singapore...

A wonderful trip well accounted on the GT-Rider forum... :)

One can take a good lesson, here, and has to be humble in front of such character, determination and fun!

    Hat down Superstylefactor!

    Cheers to all,

  10. Hi fm,

Maybe good to go for an Africa Twin, fm, or as Bard mentionned for a Transalp (more modern) if there is one in Pat'...

Though BMW is extremely reliable, in remote SEA areas, it's easier to get sorted of some problem with Honda bikes (even more true for AT). Furthermore AT and Transalp are bulletproof bikes, IMHO as reliable as a BMW (but not same type of bikes), and if well prepared/cared no hassles on the trip...

And touring SEA is not the Dakkar race, is it? Unless you are going to ride in some real an deep "no man's land", you are going to "meet" (kind) people even if you are not aware of their presence...

In fact, no really matter the bike if well prepared and cared...

Just to say, fm2002: I'm the poster of the thread on GT-Rider you are talking of, and yes, I bought the red one and I'm very pleased with it: a fantastic bike IMHO!

The "seller" is a "high end" rental company in CNX that want to renew its bikes with more modern ones (maybe F800GS it was said to me...). Bikes were serviced in Barcelona (BMW) Chiang Mai where I was able to check service and maintenance sheets about these bikes from delivery: nothing "special"...

For the record, about half a year ago, I had the same dilemna you get now... Though I rode with great pleasure a Yamaha FZ6F, I was not able to get access to some areas (but no enduro or motocross!). After turning around and around in my mind, I decided to put some more money on the table and went for a recent F650GS as a second bike.

    post-41729-1251614273_thumb.jpg

    Why?

    1) I checked many Africa Twin and was every time desapointed by price (up to 250 KB one 2001 nice bike in Pattaya!) or condition/care or "legality" of the green book... In this time I didn't find any Transalp...

    2) After enjoying riding a lot of carb-bikes (here and back home before), I prefer now injected engines handling... My age or lazyer, don't know, but no hassles: you turn the key on, press the starter button and woom!, always start-and-go first time even if parked 2 weeks before...

    2) Injected engines allow you to fill your tank with 91 or 95 or (near) whatever petrol AND gasohol (even it's not the best, but you can if necessary!). Usually, carb bikes are not so flexible...

    3) Nowadays EFI (2004 and up for F650GS and many other brands) is absolutely reliable, efficient and a pleasure (for me) to ride...

    4) F650GS is a "light" bike compared to AT or Transalp: it is like a bicycle in any situation. Very, very easy to handle and never can't be surprised or feared...

    5) Though F650GS has an austrian Rotax/Bombardier engine and was made in Italy in a Aprilia factory, it is a BMW designed bike with the best and the worst you can expect from a BMW bike: made for heavy duty jobs, reliable and that inimitable (?) BMW designed touch... but some irritating details and very expensive spare parts (beware to choose a "perfect" 2nd hand one!)...

    6) And many things more: comfort, sound, softness... but I'm not going to write a novel, here!

I don't say here "I get the best bike". Nooooooo! Rather peaceful (50 hp), safety and reliable, this F650GS just perfectly fits my needs and feels for "light" offroad... that, I'm aware of, may not be the same as others... Many, many very good but different bikes. When choosing you have just to quote it: "yes (or not), this one I feel it is MY bike"!

Well, all this only my 25 Satangs!

Good luck fm and tell us what you decide and why...

  11. Hi Thaifan2,

Yeah! Great idea!.. If fm2002 has some 1 MB to put on the board, no problem... although: not my cup of tea for riding in the mountain around Chiang Mai! I tried one: nice bike and this and that, but not a bicycle as the F650GS can be, well IMHO!

But on second hand market you can find some 1150GS for around 500 KB...

Oh, I forget: 2nd hand F650GS are in CNX...

    Cheese!

    Gobs

  12. Ah sorry fm...

Some mod "snip" the link :D

I know, I know... OK: no links here!.. I beg your pardon, Sir :) , but it was just to help... No involvement...

Well, fm, if interested, PM me I'll give it to you.

In brief: 2 bikes F650GS (single), year 2007, about 15000 km on the clocks, good condition, but tyres have to be changed and batteries a bit weak (IMHO)... One Titan blue and one Black... I tested them both and I think no problem. Just my feeling though: for sure you have to make your own idea!.. 360/350 KB (tagged price brand new in 2007: about 590 KB)...

Oh, and I heard of an Africa Twin 2 or 3 months ago! In Chiang Rai area... Maybe not sold yet, I don't know... Something like 25000 or 30000 km on the clock... Price, if I remember well, about 150 KB... I only saw some pics and seemed pretty good...

Maybe I can find the link...

Just don't throw your money in a hurry, fm, if you allow me to tell... Many opportunities, big choice and some good bikes to purchase if you realy search all over Thailand... Just take the time to find what is going to just suit your needs...

And don't listen too much the mermaid's songs: there are a lot in LOS!

Kawy 250 a bit small for pleasant trips with pillion IMHO: weak torque and power... But very good for some all around bike...

    Good luck,

    Gobs

  13. Hi fm,

Oh, you are here too :)

Good advice from thaicrb: yes Africa Twin is a great choice...

Sure BMW F650GS, single cylinder, is a great choice (I've one :D ). Then, have a look here:

    <snip>

Some days ago I went by there and they were not sold yet! The owner/seller told me she was OK to low the price... She told me something about 350 or 360 KB...

About the new BMW F650GS (twin) I think it's a very new bike to find low cost 2nd hand ones (700 KB brand new!).

    Good luck,

    Gobs

  14. Hi Greenside,

    I think "it can be"...

Try to check rubber pads on the pedals if they are almost not worn. Try to check the fabric on the driver seat on the "go in/go out" side if not heavily worn too. Try to check tyres if original mount and how much they are worn. Not at the first view but: try to check if brake pads are worn, and in general all the nuts, bolts, electric harness, plastics and hoses under the body and the hood: must be "not dirty" or "not old"... All these things must be in very good condition. This will give you an idea of the age of the vehicle.

For my part I bought a Toy 4WD truck, near 7 yo, with only 50000 km on it... It was the private car of an "high grade officer" in Governor House... This man used a "office car" for his daily trips (and more), so barely didn't use the Toy... So that's about 7000 km/year too!.. I think the mileage was true, and yes the truck was in mint condition.

About the sound system, I can't help you...

IMHO, you can't never be sure, but sometime a realy careful visual check tells you many things about age of cars... Sellers/owners can't replace all the parts by new or younger ones!

    :)

    Good luck,

    Gobs

  15. Thanks to all...

I'm afraid you are right KBB:

    1) it's a socket (not a plug),

    2) it's rather splashproof than "waterproof"

Sorry for my "not so accurate English"

You give me a good idea too about a chandlery (but here in CNX we are a bit far away from the sea!..), as well as bkkc gave me a link to e-Bay...

    And I finally find this:

    post-41729-1249313090_thumb.jpg

    A bit big, but marine-grade (alloy and O-ring). About 6 $ plug + socket...

For other part, checking the DIN socket on my F650GS, I "discover" it was not at all even splashproof! Just has a average strong plastic cap, I guess to avoid dust or mud, but no O-ring or seal or whatever. At the rear, connectors and wires are not specially protected too... I just noticed the socket is mounted "head down": maybe to avoid water "filling" the socket...

Furthermore, in a heavy pouring rain, all your bike is soaked... as well as all the connectors, switches, wires and the rest! So maybe I worry too much...

Well, I'm going to check in a Toyota (or other) dealer what is available and how are these caped-sockets. After all, maybe it should be OK...

    I'll keep you informed... :)

    Cheers,

    Gobs

  16. Congrats bkkc! You choose a nice bike for riding in LOS...

Sorry, I can't help about the GPS (right now thinking mounting one on my bike :) )...

IMHO about tyres, don't worry so much... For my part, I think I should use the irc rather than changing them at the first time... and save 7000 or 8000 Bahts for my trip! Furthermore you should be able to make your own statement...

Just my 2 cents (of a Euro!)...

Oh!, and welcome to Chiang Mai!

    Gobs
