Yes, I have PR. My serial number starts with 8, which shows I have PR, but the average official in Thailand wouldn't know that. Most expats who are on a long-term visa have an ID starting with 6. I don't know what the ID number starting with 7 indicates. Must be something to do with your type of visa.

I believe the first digit 7 is for children of people with a 6 first digit card born in Thailand.

My ID card number starts with 5, which caused enormous confusion when I first applied for the pink card.

I got to know John and met his identical twin brother of who legend said was senior police officer for the Pat Pong district in BKK.

I met the Bangkok twin first. He had a well-run upstairs bar in Patpong (probably the best one of that type). It was called The Fire--- (-house, -place, -side; can't remember now, this was the seventies) and I think his name may have been Vinai. Never heard anything about him being a policeman although he was obviously well connected. I went to John's Place in the early 90s and mistakenly thought it was the guy from Bangkok. We had a mutually confusing conversation until we figured out what had happened.

  3. I was able to successfully register using the LINE app on 1st May (first day) and book an appointment for June 7th, which appeared to be the first available day. The app required the number on the back of the ID card as well as the front.

Other information which may be pertinent to my successful booking:

    • Age 74
    • Member of the Thai Social Insurance scheme
    • Previous history at the local hospital
    • The name of the applicant was entered as it appears on the pink ID card
    • No mention of any fee
    • Confirmation of booking by LINE app
    • There is an option to allow change of booking
    • Type of jab not specified but I believe the current plan is for it to be locally produced AstraZeneca

    Anyway, good luck.

Have you used it to enable or get anything that a Yellow book would enable or get you?

I can't think of anything offhand where I have been required to use a Tabian Baan - maybe for opening bank accounts, registering vehicles etc? I assume any type of book would work for that. I can't recall ever having a yellow one so cannot comment on what the differences would be.

The original purpose of doing it dates back to the bad old days when Thai women married to foreigners were not allowed to own land plus a few other discriminatory practices, so it was useful to be in separate books.

As for your comment about Secret Squirrels, I have no idea what you are talking about.

  5. The best has always been considered to be the lady dentist next to Sa-ard electrical good store and opposite Seri Department store in Boonyawat Rd. She's very busy though and it might be hard to get an appointment. There are several others - you might get more detailed information if you post something on the "Lampang Events" Facebook group.

  6. What about the red pork? I remember some years ago a friend had a similar problem - kao ka moo, with the red pork. Missus said it was the powder coating rubbed on the pork before it was cooked to turn it red. Turned out she was right. But don't ask what, why and how. I don't remember - because it's so bloody rare. So that might be worth checking

I think the ingredient to get the red colour is ดินประสิว. Simon, I suggest checking out the allergic reactions to sodium nitrate and see if any of them match yours.

  7. G3 Auctions in Lamphun are listing 26 mini-excavators at their next monthly auction - not sure if any of them have rubber tracks might it be worthwhile dropping by there before 3rd August. I have had previous satisfactory purchases.

  8. The op needs atrash pump for his application, septic pumpers all use centrifigal which are not suitable for his job.

All the septic tank pumping trucks I have seen use a vacuum pump to fill the truck tank. There is usually a sight glass in the rear wall of the tank to check the level.

  9. wasn't it a shame that the magnificent Tim Horan, the IRISH stalwart of the wallabies wasn't still playing to save you getting hammered by the Lions.cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif

Tim Horan was born and bred in Australia as was his father. Started his schoolboy career at a Protestant boarding school (Downlands) and went on to the Queensland Reds and the Wallabies. How do you get Irish out of that?

You've been caught out in a flagrant porky.

  10. This sounds like a golden opportunity for someone who is willing to buy the proper drilling equipment. Might even get a governemnt grant to finance it!

I wouldn't recommend it. Thailand has the highest population of water well drilling rigs I have seen anywhere. Many government departments have them - to name a few:

    Department of Groundwater Resources (DGR)

    Royal Irrigation Department

    Royal Thai Army

    Department of Health

    Disaster Relief Division

    EGAT

    Department of Public Works

    and so on.

Most of these buy a few new rigs every year and the older ones are eventually 'recycled' into the private sector. There are scores of independent contractors with rig fleet sizes ranging from 1 to 10 units. I know one Australian supplier who has sold over 40 water well rigs in Thailand.

The DGR publishes hydrogeological maps for the whole country using the data from thousands of well to show different aquifers and expected depths and yields. As far as I know, there is a DGR office in Amphur Muang of every province and they can be a good first point of contact to get information on specific areas and local contractors.
