    Unfortunately, although Thailand is in desperate need of the reforms mentioned, I doubt it is quite ready to deal with the issues mentioned.

    If we take education and corruption, this covers most of what holds Thailand back. The only thing to add to jdinasia's comments about education is to try and find a way to encourage students (and their parents) to WANT education. The lazy, unmotivated, alcoholic family role models will take sometime to overcome.

    Corruption - where to start ? Endemic throughout Thai society it allows Thaksin to be a hero DESPITE what he did (maybe even BECAUSE ofwhat he did). Greed and cheating manifests itself from an early age.

    So, whilst I would dearly love to see Thailand take a huge step forward from here - but I fear it cannot. UNLESS, someone like K. Abhisit is able to deliver, on a plate, a package of measures (incorporating many of jdinasia's proposals) and, effectively, BUY the support of the masses.

    Many cans of worms would be opened and, of course, you cannot change the balance of wealth in Thailand anymore than any other country. What you can do is show respect, compassion and encouragement to the sectors that are most disenfranchised.

    Remember, Thaksin's populist policies (even designed to advantage him) did not bring the country together - they simply made him look popular and secured votes.

    I wonder how many of the red-shirts said exactly the same sort of thing... my guess is thousands.

    This guy is obviously a total moron, but to pick him out because he is white is just plain racist.

    No he is being picked out because he walked up to a stranger with a camara

    and said things totally beyond reason. He did this, never considering

    it would be on Youtube in days. And then suddenly Central world is burning

    and Gold shops looted and he is pictured in the red guards company smiling like a total pratt.

    Nothing racist in this, he hung himself up to dry.

    I agree 100%.

    He was a white guy, in an Asian country, breaking the laws of that country. Therefore, he should be punished in accordance with the laws of that country.

    Shameful behaviour from uneducated, manipulated Thais - even less excusable from a Westerner.

    You will have to watch the clip on youtube to catch the ending but after you have seen it I am sure you will be as confused as I was, personally I think the don is more of a "Nugget" than a Donk, what do you think? :o:D:D

    Everyboby should have a "Donk".He is not a "Don".

    A Donk is a harmless hulk who will look after his mates. Don is a muscle-bound <deleted> who will spin-kick/snap-kick anyone in range in the Sois between Beach Road and 2nd Road. :D

    Taxi Fares To And From Airport.

    I took an official taxi from BKK to pattaya yesterday and got charged 1500THB (was too tired and drunk to stress about it). Took 3hrs as well as I didnt know where my condo building was and neither did the taxi driver.

    Feel a bit guilty now - screwed a taxi driver down to 1,000 Baht for Don Muang to Pattaya.

    Conscience kicked in so I tipped him 200.
