  1. There used to be many places in the Ban Hong area (about 25-30 km south of Lamphun) on Highway 106 where you could buy direct from the farmer. I assume that they still do this, but have no current knowledge.

It was possible to drive down the side roads and see the garlic and shallots hanging out to dry. Worth a trip, but take a Thai speaker with you to ask directions.

  2. Back to 1965 the changes on shirt numbers changed to include the new rules allowing 3 subs. So numbers 12 and 14 were included and 13 for the reserve goalie. I think it was that way around anyway.

1964-5 saw the introduction of substitutes in english football, the subs number was 12 and was only permitted in case of injury. Right from the start this rule was ignored by most managers with players faking injuries when a substitution was required.

1966-67 the rule was amended to allow 1 sub for any reason.

I think it remained 1 sub until the mid 80's when 2 subs were allowed. I don't think any firm rule stated which numbers were to be used, but most clubs used 12 & 14, not wanting to tempt fate with number 13.

It wasn't until the mid 90's that 3 subs were allowed. I'm not sure if it was only 3 subs could be named, or the system we have today of naming a group of subs (currently 7) from which 3 can be chosen.

The numbers used, as already stated, is entirely up to the club and the player, with some players requesting lucky numbers, the year they were born, etc. I wonder if it's possible to use number 0, anybody know?

  3. Apologies if this has been posted before, I haven't noticed it and I could not find it with a search.

This was an article in the Bangkok Post 25th June 2009 giving details of Thailand's TV coverage of the 2010 World Cup, which we can officially look forward to now, as England will be there. Alas no mention of whether there will be English commentary. I suspect not, as that costs more money.

    http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/sports/190...finals-coverage

The 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa will be shown live in Thailand without commercial breaks. CEO Surachai Chetchotisak of RS, which holds the broadcast rights in Thailand, said yesterday that all 64 matches will be televised live on Channel 3 and Channel 7.

"There will be no commercial breaks during the live coverage of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa from June 11-July 11," he said.

"The time for the live coverage is good for Thai fans as matches will be played at 6pm, 9pm and 1am (Thai time)."

The announcement was made in the presence of South African ambassador to Thailand Douglas Gibson, Channel 3 managing director Pravit Maleenont and Channel 7 managing director Surang Prempree.

Surachai said the World Cup telecast would be one of the best live sports coverage events here as both TV stations have experience in the field.

To help promote the tournament, RS and the two channels will produce special programmes to be aired from April to June, he said.

Also, there will be events mainly at CentralWorld and Siam Paragon in the run-up to the World Cup.

  4. With ESPN/Star Sports we got 9 or 10 Group Stage matches live or on delay.

Any idea if Channel 3 or 7 will show additional matches on delay? If not, we'll be getting a lot less coverage.

TrueSports airs BarcaTV, BayernTV, ManUTV, ChelseaTV and LiverpoolTV... if you can wait a couple of days, you can watch those clubs' UCL matches there, too.

Channel 3 and 7 schedule for first 2 matchdays listed here:

    http://www.ch7.com/activities/activities_d...contentId=47058

    TU 15 Sep Ch 3 Chelsea v Porto ; Ch 7 Besiktas v Man U

    W 16 Sep Ch 3 Inter v Barca; Ch 7 Liverpool v Debreceni

TU 29 Sep Ch 3 Fiorentina v Liverpool; Ch 7 Arsenal v Olympiacos

    W 30 Sep Ch 3 Man U v Wolfsburg; Ch 7 APOEL v Chelsea

Not quite correct.....Arsenal match is Weds night..thurs here

The list looks ok to me, the Arsenal match quoted is for Matchday 2 When they do play on Tuesday 29th. The Arsenal match for Wednesday 16th is not being shown live on Thai TV.

  5. Channel 7 are showing the Man U match on Tuesday night and the Liverpool match on Wednesday night (no surprise there).

Channel 3 are just saying "Champions League 2009/10" My guess is that they will show the Real Madrid and Inter Milan matches, but it is only a guess.

  6. It doesn't look like it.

Football scheduled for tomorrow morning is

    1.45 Channel 7 Germany v Azerbaijan

    2.00 Truesport 1 England v Croatia

    2.00 Truesport 3 Serbia v France

2.00 Channel 3 World Cup Qualifier (Unknown)

    4.00 Truesport 1 Uruguay v Colombia

    6.00 Truesport 1 Paraguay v Argentina

The match on Channel 3 is likely to be either England or France as they are the only two matches due for a 2am kick off.

  7. Well, I tried to purchase Acronis online but they only accept credit cards, which I do not have, so I tried Daffy's suggestion of Macrium.

After a few teething problems with bad clusters I successfully created a backup image of my C drive on an external hard drive, and a boot CD. Very fast and easy to use.

The free version of Macrium is a cut down version of their pay program. It has the basic features that I require, so I'm pleased with it.

    Thanks for all the advice.

  8. I'm running Windows XP and I back up my data files on a regular basis in case of HDD failure etc. However, I would like to know if I copy my C Drive data to a Memory Stick using Windows Explorer, and copy my registry to a Memory Stick, can I revert to my current OS by simply formatting my new drive and then copying the saved data to the new drive without having to re-install Windows and all the applications that I use.

If so, how do I save and restore the registry?

  9. On Friday I couldn't listen to BBC radio on my Maxnet connection, on Saturday I had no problems, loud and clear with no interruptions, on Sunday no way could I connect, so I tried my Loxinfo dial-up connection (which usually works fine), but no connection on that either. Today, BBC radio reception is fine again, both on Maxnet and Loxinfo dial-up. For me, at least, it doesn't appear to be a Maxnet problem

I know that BBC have recently amended all their webpages to include Flash and certain other "improvements" to make it more compatable with the higher speed broadband available in most western countries, maybe this has something to do with it?

  10. Okay I understand this but if you go to ESPNSTAR website you have a dropdown list of countries, starting with China. The China schedule shows CL games for September plus Highlight shows. Dropdown to Thailand and no CL programming whatsoever. That is my point!

What is your URL for this? I can only find schedules on the ESPNSTAR website up to September 13th and the first CL match is on the 15th.

I have always found the ESPNSTAR website to be difficult to navigate, so I've obviously missed the info that you found, please provide the link.

I agree with you entirely that, at the moment, there is no indication that ESPN will be covering the matches in Thailand.

  11. I found this ESPN press release which states that they have the rights to Champions League matches from 2009-10 season for Malaysia, Brunei, and China. It does say "renewed", so it's not a new contract. No mention of Thailand, but we may be covered by a different contract.

    http://www.espnstar.com/corporate/press-re...ase/item153906/

ESPN STAR Sports Secures Rights to UEFA Champions League for Malaysia, Brunei and China; adds UEFA Europa League for China

17 November 2008, Singapore: ESPN STAR Sports has renewed a multi-year exclusive agreement with Europe's governing body of football, UEFA, for multi-platform rights on a Pay basis to the UEFA Champions' League for Malaysia and Brunei, and English language Pay TV rights for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League for China for the 2009/10 - 2011/12 seasons.

In Malaysia and Brunei, ESPN STAR Sports will maintain exclusive Pay TV, broadband and mobile broadcast rights for all UEFA Champions' League matches, from the group stages to the Final in these key markets. The agreement also provides ESS with the right to broadcast the Super Cup, the annual match between the winners of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The deal will see ESS deliver up to a total of 146 games, which also includes the right to air UEFA-produced magazine shows and for ESS produce its own in-house highlight shows.

For China, ESPN STAR Sports has secured a landmark deal for the exclusive English-language Pay TV rights for the UEFA Champions League and for the first time, the UEFA Europa League. In total, ESPN STAR Sports will have rights to broadcast over 350 games in China for these two leagues.

Said Mr Manu Sawhney, Managing Director, ESPN STAR Sports, "We share a fruitful relationship with UEFA and we are delighted to continue our partnership with them. This agreement is a testament to our commitment of building the UEFA Champions League by presenting it in the most innovative and entertaining manner to millions of fans in China, Malaysia and Brunei."

Said UEFA, "UEFA is extremely happy that its longstanding relationship with ESPN STAR Sports in China is set to continue. For many years ESPN STAR Sports has excelled as a broadcast partner of UEFA and we look forward to working together in the future, not only on the UEFA Champions League but also for the first time in China, on the UEFA Europa League.

We are also delighted to have concluded another deal with ESPN STAR Sports in Asia and we are confident that they will continue to do a great job of bringing UEFA's premier club football competition to football fans in Malaysia and Brunei."

This latest agreement completes an already stellar list of the world's biggest football properties on ESPN STAR Sports' network, which includes comprehensive coverage of the Barclays Premier League, the FA Cup and Senior and Under-21 England Team home matches. ESPN STAR Sports also produces close to 1,500 hours of original football content a year, including programmes like Nokia Football Crazy, Football Focus, Football Forecast, Goals and Football Extra, catering to a wide range of audiences from the serious football fan to the armchair spectator.

  12. After all the problems surrounding last season's FA Cup I notice in the Septenmber True Schedules there is no mention of Champions League games either on Truesports or ESPNStar!

    Anybody have any info?

They are certainly not yet listed in True's online schedule. This far ahead they may not show the actual matches that will be covered, but they usually list it as "Champions League" or similar.

The ESPNSTAR online schedule won't be available for a few days yet, and Thai Channel 3 & 7 online schedule probably won't be available for a couple of weeks yet.

As both the Thai channels have covered the qualifying rounds, I think it's likely that they will continue with the competition proper, but I'm not so sure at this stage about ESPN.

  13. That lame "Royal Thai Police..... pop up" that has been troublesome for the past few days has mutated: Some Forum members more tech minded than I might be able to find some answers via

    TTP/1.0 302 Moved Temporary

    Location: http://w3.mict.go.th

    Connection: close

    Content-type: text/plain

Above is what just flashed in the same text as the "Royal Thai Police announcement" I hope other forum members can help rid us or inform us of this immature glitch here. Thanks in advance.

I am also getting the new amended message, it's so annoying because I have programs that download pages automatically, and they are failing because they don't know how to handle the messages. I have just spent some time amending some of the programs to recognise the message and re-loading the page, and now the body of the message has changed, meaning that I have to re-code the programs again. TIT

  14. Add me to the list of Maxnet subscribers that cannot now access the BBC website or listen to BBC radio.

I previously posted on this thread that I was having no problems and that was so until yesterday. In the morning I connected easily as usual, but in the evening and today I cannot reach the site. The page does not time out, it just hangs and never appears.

I am also unable to access Wikipedia and Bangkok Bank today, the same thing happens on those sites.

I hope that this is temporary as I use BBC radio a lot.

I tried the Free Proxy link and that connects ok to the BBC homepage, but will not connect me to the radio sites.

  15. Seagate HDDs are designed to operate in a range 5-50 degrees with newer models having an upper limit of 60 degrees.

    http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/self...&NewLang=en

I've been using my current HDD for 4 years now, PC on usually 24/7, and HDD temperature usually in the range 45-49 degrees. I have a small desk fan that constantly blasts into the holes in the casing to supplement the internal fan.

Unfortunately, we must expect failure from our HDDs usually at boot-up time, so regular back-ups to other HDDs or discs are essential

  16. TrueVisions 1 has 2 live La Liga matches scheduled for the coming weekend.

Real Madrid v Deportivo and Valencia v Sevilla

Due to the fact that their web site doesn't yet have details on their other sports channels for the weekend, it's not possible to see if there are any other live matches scheduled including the Barcelona match (early Tuesday morning Thai time).

After all we really can't expect a TV broadcaster in Thailand to publish schedules more than a couple of days in advance, can we?

  17. I pay mine with BB no problem....... go to ADD PAYEE......it is listed under "Internet" "TripleT"

How do you do this? I have 2 different customer numbers and they are both 10 digits long. BB only allows a maximum of 9 digits in the customer reference.

  18. I'm on 3.0.13 and I've never had any problems creating a bookmark. This is the way I do it.

Whilst on the page I wish to bookmark, I click Bookmarks, then on Bookmark This Page. This gives me a small window which says Page Bookmarked at the top, I then enter the name I want to call the bookmark. I click on the top arrow of the 2 arrows on the right of the box and a list of my Bookmark Folders is displayed. I then either create a new folder or select an existing folder from the list. When I'm satisfied where I want to save it, I click Done and it's complete.

    Hope this helps

  19. I'm in Chiang Mai and no problems here listening to BBC radio using Maxnet, however a short while ago I couldn't get things to work and I found that it was NoScript that was stopping it. It seems that BBC Iplayer must have recently started running scripts on it's pages because I have being using NoScript for a long time with no previous problems. Once I told NoScript to allow the page, everything worked fine.

  20. Yes, it's scheduled for Truesports 1 and Thai channel 3.

Scheduled on Truesports 1 is meaningless, as they've proved many times before. Let's hope this year has been sorted out better than last; especially with regard to the C shield & FA cup...

That's exactly why I said it was scheduled for Truesports 1, rather than saying it will be on Truesports 1.

As far as I know, TrueVision has the rights for the Community Shield, England's home matches, and the FA Cup for this season. Whether they will show them is, of course, another question entirely.

  21. They show all 380 matches live on Gold and Platinum packages. If there are too many matches played at the same time to fit onto their sports channels, they show matches on some of their spare channels.

I understand their contract expires at the end of the coming season, and it will be interesting to see if they re-new it.
