  1. Earlier this evening both the https and http versions of the address were re-directing me to thebox.biz, now both addresses just report "Page not found" messages on both Firefox and IE.

I tried several DNS servers including opendns, but no difference.

If anyone is able to access the site, could you check the Forum to see if others are reporting problems. They sometimes have problems that affect some users but not others.

I'll probably just shut everything down and see if it's back to normal tomorrow.

  2. Interesting to see how the top Premiership teams are doing this season compared to the corresponding matches against the same opposition teams last season. Substituting Burnley, Hull and Portsmouth for Newcastle, WBA and Blackpool respectfully.

The figures shown are goals scored, goals conceded and points compared to last season.

    Arsenal -7 +1 -2

    Man C -7 -6 +2

    Man U 0 +7 -6

    Chelsea -8 +8 0

    Spurs -11 +4 -7

    Liverpool -12 +3 -5

The team with the biggest gain is Bolton +12 pts

The team with the biggest loss is Villa -12 pts

It indicates that Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool are weaker in attack, Man U are weaker in defence, Man C are weaker in attack but stronger in defence, and Chelsea are weaker in attack and defence but strangely, have got the same number of points.

    Including matches on 12th Dec.

  3. Platinum and Gold are both advertised to show all 380 Premier League matches, they started showing the "extra" channels on Gold over a year ago.

There has recently been a subtle change in their adverts. They used to say "380 matches live", the last time I looked it said "380 matches", no mention of the "live" bit.

  4. Whats with all these adverts theyre destorying whats been a cracking 20 minutes of football 7 adverts so far ... it cant cost that much to buy the rights to the CC.

They have to show 7 adverts per half. Sometimes they cram them in as early as possible and then have the rest of the half with no ads, and sometimes they stretch them out evenly over the whole half.

They are not allowed by the ad companies to show the ads at half-time, and the contract only covers normal time, so extra-time and penalties are ad-free.

  5. The question raised by the OP was not whether Thailand's rules and regulations were too strict compared to other countries, but why one can't extend or renew certain legitimate visas from within the country, at the same cost and under the same regulations, rather than having to leave the country.

It does seem strange to force people to spend time and money in a neighbouring country when they could be spending that money in Thailand. There is also the chance that when on a visa trip, the person could decide that the neighbouring country is better and move there permanently.

  6. is it fairly simple to get a letter about income? for retirement visa? I assume i can produce just one month of income? the US has a better system - just swear on the Bible and you get your letter!

This from the British Embassy, Bangkok website

    http://ukinthailand.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/living-in-thailand/

    Proof of Income Letters

    British nationals applying for a visa, or an extension of a visa, with the Thai Immigration Bureau may be asked to obtain a letter from us verifying their income. To obtain the letter you must be registered with us. We will also need to see a copy of your passport and, either bank statements for the previous 3 months, or the original evidence of your pension or income. We charge a fee of THB 2,408 for the letter, which is ready to collect from the Consular Section at 09:00 on the working day after the application is submitted to us. You can also apply for a proof of income letter by post. To apply by post you must ensure that the above documentation is included and that the total amount of pension or income you receive is clearly stated. You can only pay in the following ways;

    * Banker's Draft, plus THB 200 administration fee;

    * Postal orders payable to 'British Embassy' to be cashed at Nana Post Office, Bangkok 10110 (Please note that online postal orders are not accepted.

  7. As said, all the big stores sell these DVD players. If you are interested in buying one, copy some files onto a memory stick, try to choose some that represent the type of files you usually play, and take the stick to the shop. They are always pleased to demonstrate the players to you. That way you can try before you buy. Make sure that the player supports the larger memory stick sizes, some only play from 2Gb maximum.

  8. I wonder if the telephone line is your problem as my service is reasonably good and most of what they promised - but I do not use a telephone line. Instead I have a dedicated 3BB internet line, which is what everyone who uses 3BB has in my area of Bangkok

When i used True I had to rent a TOT phone line and my internet service was poor.

The technician did say that 3BB are connecting their own lines, but we live out in the country and he said "maybe next year".

  9. The garage I go to is quite near the registration office that I use, the office told me where to get the test done, it's probably a relation that runs the garage. They charge me 100 baht. I just get it all done myself.

The registration expires on the day stated and they charge you for time over that date. You are allowed to renew up to 21 days in advance.

  10. Unless you have less than 30 days remaining on whatever visa you have, I don't understand why re-registering your vehicle should pose any problem. I always use an agent, Blue book, signed copy of passport, license, and a few baht extra, ready for collection next day, job done.

I understood that MOT type tests were only required when a vehicle is 8 or more years old (.. but don't quote me on that)

I've never had to show my passport or license at the registration office, just hand over my blue book, and the fee.

Yes, the test was only required when my car was over 8 years old, and you need to produce your insurance documents before they will carry out the test.

  11. I recently had a spell where I got continuous disconnections and when the technician called he said it was due to the bad telephone line from the local exchange. Instead of somebody repairing the line they adjusted my internet speeds fom 3Mb download to 4.25Mb download, and from 1Mb upload to 0.5Mb upload, and so far, my connection has stabilised.

Although, of course, my upload speed has been reduced by 50%.

It's easier for them to restrict my use of the internet than to repair the problem and let me have what I pay for.

  12. My car is registered in my name and I paid my year's tax in March with no problems. 3 years ago I was told by the tax office that I needed to get a certificate from a local garage to prove the vehicle was roadworthy before they would issue the tax disc.

Now, every year I stop at the garage for the 10 minute test (breaks, exhaust emissions, indicators and lights, no steering test) on the way to the tax office. Cost 100 baht.

5 minutes in the tax office and I'm out with my new tax sticker. I'd be interested to know if anyone has found any recent changes.

  13. Several years ago I complained to my local Post Office when the postman left some expensive books out in the rain and they were ruined, although I was home at the time. Following that I did not get a delivery for several months even though I knew letters and parcels had been sent to me.

I got a Post Office Box in another nearby Post Office and, so far, have never knowingly lost any mail. It costs me just 150 baht for a year (although some people have been charged more for a similar service), and if I get a large parcel, or something that requires my signature they just leave a note in the box and I call in the office to receive my post.

It has the advantage that the Post Office doesn't have to work out where my house is, they just have to be able to read my PO Box number.

It's slightly more inconvenient than home delivery but I do pass the Post Office about once a week and it's much more reliable.

  14. Well, Spurs won't draw Rangers because they are both in the same pot.

Pot one: Inter Milan, Barcelona, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Lyon.

Pot two: Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica, Valencia, Marseille, Panathinaikos.

Pot three: Tottenham, Rangers, Ajax, Schalke, Basle, Braga, FC Copenhagen, Spartak Moscow.

Pot four: Hapoel Tel Aviv, FC Twente, Rubin Kazan, Auxerre, CFR Cluj, Partizan Belgrade, MSK Zilina, Bursaspor.

Draw at 18.00 CET (23.00 Thai time)

  15. John Dykes left ESPN during the summer to join the Premier League TV company. This is the company that provides the overseas feeds that Thailand uses. He, and his pundits replace the stuff that the Premier League used to fill the half-time with. There's also a pre-match show and and a post-match show but True, of course don't show them (at least not on the non-HD channels).

Since he left ESPN none of the football related shows, Football Focus, Football Forecast, or First Edition seem to be broadcast anymore.

  16. Both Channel 3 and Channel 7 are showing football tonight in their schedules at the appropriate time.

Channel 3 are featuring "Champions League 2009-10"

Channel 7 are listing "Champions League Play-Offs"

What we get is anybody's guess.
