  1. Please can anyone help…

I live 50km west of BKK so have only visited Pattaya 3 times in 4 years..

I will be driving over there next Friday and would like to know where 2 places are.

I remember last year there was a post I think on here about a good pie shop, believe it was on 3rd road ? believe it was a ladies name like Pats Pies or Jane’s Pies ?? if anyone knows I will be going to Friendship Supermarket, where is it from there + can I park anywhere near ?

Also on here there was directions on how to get to Villa Supermarket, but cannot find that post + no info on Villa’s website..[says last update June 2007]

Feel sure I read in that Post that eurogourmet food’ supply this Store with pies and sausage

Many thanks if anyone can help

  2. I wonder if people like to be the 1st owner in the Blue Book ? I know that most love to run as long as possible with the red plates on there cars, so wonder if it is the same with houses ?

I live out in the sticks, there are 63 detached 3 and 4 bedroom homes here, at the time when I bought and had my house built the 7km road was unmade dirt track…

We have 2 houses empty + For Sale + 2 For Sale with owners needing to sell before they can move, in 4 years only 1 house has been resold, of the 2 empty houses 1x was the bank repossession,[empty 2 years] Price 1.8 million, the other the owner has never moved in because of change of place of work Price 1.95 million...

The road has long ago been made and house/shops built along the road, and new project all over the place, prices from 699,000 to 4 million in these projects + selling.

A little way up the road the same builders that built these houses, build another 58 3 & 4 bedroom houses the starting price is 3.1 million for the 3 bedroom…

I cannot work out why someone will pay 3.1 million when the can buy more or less the same house for 1.8 million. ? for 1.8 million there are window/door grills, large water storage tank and pump these alone cost 45,000

  3. I like Dutch Coffee, so buy 'Douwe Egberts' I buy the 'Special' because that is what I like best + I drink at least 10 mugs per day...... 124 baht per 500gr pack..

The coffee, ham [200 baht kg off the bone] Salami [250 baht kg] Cheddar Cheese [620 baht per 2kg block] bought by a friend that visits 'Friendship' in Pattaya

I have tried every Brand in Thailand, even some from the hill tribes, I still like Douwe Egberts the best, but then I have mostly always drunk this brand for the past 35 years

  4. Suan Plu Immigration did not accept my 4million baht in a Thai bank cheque account in 2003 [opened 10yr before this date]

They told me to open/transfeer to a Fixed rate account.

This I did and so the 800,000 I transfered has been in a fixed rate acoount ever since... All I have had to do last year was ask the Bank to issue me with monthly statements = can show the money has not moved + has been there over 3 months + of course the letter comfirming I do have this account.

I have never been ask to show anything other than this Fixed rate 800,000 baht each year, I have taken copies of other accounts and 2 different Bank passbooks + 2 different Thai Bank Visa card copies, but have never been asked to show them.

  5. my toilet seat is cracked and i need a replacement - went to the Home Pro store next to Carrefour on Pattaya Klang and they can only get through special order( 2-3 weeks) and the price is close to 6000 baht - ouch - does anyone know where i can buy an American Standard replacement seat at a reasonable price in the Pattaya area? thanks

To show my ignorance of American toilet habits, can you explain how an "American" toilet seat differs from the articles the rest of the world manages with??

As far as I can see if its the right shape and has a hole in the centre, whats wrong with everyone elses seats??

Maybe it is this one ?? post-42643-1203508891_thumb.jpg

  6. Nice thing about some of the ‘GEEK’ sites is you can get bits from all over the place.

Myself have XP, but other than start up it looks nothing like XP, I have some bits from Vista and some from Apples X 10.4 Tiger

OK took a little time to get it right, but I love what I have

If you install bits one at a time, then if you don't like the way something looks. or it will not run, then just delete it and try something different.... keep a list of what is installed so you can change/delete/add any of the bits at any time

  7. Ok First I can use a computer but do not really know too much about under the hood, so here's my question..

I would love to own a new Apple Lap top computer and use the Leopard O/S, But to me they seem just a bit too expensive

compared to other lap tops currently on the market , so if a computer is just made up of assembled parts is there a

non Apple lap top I could buy cheaper that I could install Leopard on it ..? is it that simple ..? or am I missing some thing..?

    :o

The simple asner is Y E S...... you can download a 'skin' here http://www.techmixer.com/transform-windows...gui-interfaces/

    or Leopard O/S for XP

    Download is here http://kampongboy92.deviantart.com/art/Leo...-On-XP-66696721

    or here http://www.coolwizardz.com/apple/ultimate-...sx-leopard.html

  8. Many thanks.......... as I said in my post on the 29th December

I take Thai version [Metformin Hydrochloride] Tablets 500 mg, I found out that the tablets were maybe the problem [bought from Super Drug], as I drove into the chemist I normally use [50km away] and bought another bottle of 500 tablets and everything is back to normal.

  9. Also have the 3 big main Supermarkets on the Bang Yai rd, 40km North/West of BKK, same here but I always buy the soy bean oil anyway, just that it is now some 12baht more expensive

I always shop on Wednesday 2 weeks ago there was NO oil at all in Tesco of any kind, last week in Carrefore NO sunflower oil just a big gap on the shelves.. Will look if I remember tomorrow [bought 1 gallon can soy bean oil last week]

  10. Are you sure they were poisoned ?

Did your GF take them to the vet to find out?

I live out in the sticks, did have 7 dogs, 4yrs ago 4 died within a week……… Vet = reason = they all had tick fever worm in the hart…….. Now the remaining 3 have tick injection every 3 months…….. ALL where always well groomed and showered every week yet still they go tick fever and died.!

3 weeks ago the Pest Control guys, must have mad an error with there mixture in the spray, I thought it was very strong and kept the 3 dogs in a bedroom for 5 hours instead of 2…….. over 300 Fish died over the next 4 days !!

  11. I think more the question is where have you been and driven before ??

The driving in Thailand is very good compared to come places, All my life I have lived out in the Countryside is every Country I have lived in, yes here I have a car and drive everywhere, I have driven down to Bangkok a number of times each year and find it no problem.

One point a good map is good but only for you, as I have found that most Thais do not use, or understand them…… Here directions are given by landmarks… turn when you see so and so building.. past xzy hotel and turn by 7/11, over 2nd bridge and turn etc.. If your going some place I find it is best to ask at least 2 different people, as both may use the same route but have different landmarks.. because what one person uses as a landmark may not be what you expect

    Have a great holiday :o

  12. Hi,

I have learned that the owner is Khun Opas, and I think it is Rattanathibet Rd, Nonthaburi. However I have been told that he moved all his cars last year. Can you remember the last time you passed and saw the cars ?

    Thanks.

Sorry no, but maybe will go to Nontaburi later in the week so will look

was downloading Google Earth and looking for the place when you asked the above :o

  13. Update my last post

If you have Google Earth then Thailand > type in 13'52'22.45N and 100'27'41.47E > go on the enlarge and keep enlarging until you see the tent and all the cars...

Driving from Bang Yai Road go towards Nontaburi after the large intersection [NOT the 'Ban Bau Thong' intersection use the fly over] it is half way between this intersection and the River on the left side.

    Hope this helps :o

  14. On my 8600GT has 2x DVI and a VGA so = can run 3 monitors [believe the 8500 only has 1x DVI and 1x VGA]
    Has it? I thought the outputs were 2 DVI +S-Video? Are there any affordable cards offering 3 {DVI VGA mix}

    Regards

Well mine Asus Silent 8600GT has 2x DVI and a VGA, and I have 1x monitor old LCD 19" has NO DVI and is connected with the VGA cable, the newer 20" LCD has DVI so is connected via the DVI cable.

  15. As to the watermelon the wife will not eat.Her responce is that her uncle grows them for sale and he told her not to eat.Why I ask.Because they use chemical to make much red so people thing look sweet and good.

How strange, the yellow ones are much nicer

  16. ignis,

what's Seer like? I always use Laksi for convenience but it can be frustrating when you want something specific, then I use Fortune. Is it straightforward driving to Seer, I've seen it from the expressway but never driven along the bottom to it.

Never had any problems finding what I want there + there is a big section of 'used' parts. Pantip 2 is the nearest to me so for the last year [as it is a new building] I have been using this, but needed a part a couple of months ago, everywhere in Pantip 2 was NO HAVE, so drove on to Seer Ransit and yes got the part easy.

So on the bottom road it is well sign posted, exit before going over the river and the U turn is beside the river..........

If you use the expressway you could also branch off and go to Nontaburi..... believe it is the 2nd exist after the 10baht Toll, from the expressway you can see it on the right a 13 story blue glass building, after you come down from the expressway keep on the left as the car park is just before the building > big sign says TOPS Supermarket maybe 50m from the expressway exsit

  17. I would think this is an expensive way to do what I think you want…

You want in X years time a 2 story house RIGHT? But at the moment only have funds for a single story RIGHT?

As the foundations + the thickness of the columns + the size of the steel used for the re-enforcement columns and ring beam are different on a single story than a 2 story, so you would find it expensive to build upstairs 1st on the ground floor and later rise this to build downstairs under it.

The best way is to build the house shell 2 story, but only fill in the ground floor, under the ring beam, leaving the upstairs as an open space until funds are there to build the upstairs. = there no jacking up, no more columns to build, as the pillars are already poured for upstairs and the roof is already in place.

This is done often in Portugal, but not only for lack of money reason., as there is far less government tax to pay if you live in the downstairs with the upper floors open for over 1 year.

The other way as we did many times again in Portugal build the ground floor = foundations > ring beam > your concrete columns [leave at least 1m steel higher than the top of the upper ring beam to join the top floor at a later date] > ring beam > fill in the floor, and seal [many would then build a stair on the outside of the house to the flat roof,] > when there is more funds add the top floor and roof.
