1. Where can you buy a Nuvi 660 in Thailand? Does any dealer have it? The ESRI website doesn't list it on their product page.

I would prefer one a 660 for the bigger display (480 x 272 pixels as opposed to 320 x 240 pixels on Nuvi 200 and 310) and for the FM transmitter that the Nuvi 200 and 310 don't have.

Email these and ask, there in BKK

    http://www.gadgetrend.com/gps_spi2.php

They have the StreetPilot 7200's huge 7-inch touch-screen display means you'll always see where you're going - from anywhere in the vehicle

  2. I recently bought an item through ebay and paid via Paypal. I never received the item. I however contacted the seller via email. He said he would sort it out get back to me. So over the last few weeks he has asked to confirm my address. No problem. He also said i should have the item by the Thursday. However i never received it. His next request is to give him my bank details so that he can refund the cash. This is where i became suspicious. Sounds like he is trying to get too much info. He has my name and address as i was the winning bidder. But i don't really want to give out my bank details. What can i do within ebay or Paypal to retrieve my money? If its going to be too much hassle i may just put it down to experience as its not a lot of money. I have also contacted Ebay describing the problem. Now. This guy may be genuine and wants to refund my money. But then he may be trying to scam me? What do other think? Am i right to be wary? Some one said to just give them my details and i'll get my money back. But i'm not so sure. Thoughts?

If you paid via paypal, then the seller has an account, so ask him to refund the money back into your Paypal account

This happened to me some years back, the seller did eventually refund the money into my Paypal account, I spent the money, 3 days later Paypal informed me that the money refunded was via a credit card used Fraudulently, and wanted me to repay them Paypal !! No way it was my money, took 18months before Paypal accepted this and stopped hounding me for the return of the £550..

    Never used Paypal again

  3. Makro charges around 278 baht for 12 bottles of 1.25 liters. That's less than 19 baht per liter.

I doubt two tasters of the various brands and editions would think they all taste the same.

Bought 4 boxes at Big C last month 260 baht a box.. Tesco on wednesday was 268 per box, being diabetic can only drink Sugar Free, for me Pepsi Max tastes much better than Coke Zero

  4. 5th Gear did a program a couple of months ago on pickups, the winner by a mile was the new Nissan Frontier..

Don't forget that there are new models early next year for the Vigo + the Isuzu here in thailand so do not pay list price.

For me the Isuzu 2.5 iTeq is the best, twice driven the Vigo hate it, will not corner at speed, feels top heavy

  5. Went in yesterday for the first (and probably last) time

Ridiculous pricing - one small jar of Roses Lime Marmalade, one very small jar of bovril and 25 camomile tea bags - 647 baht (nearly ten quid). E-mailed my daughter in UK, she went into her local shop and priced this at under three pounds.

I like these things, but I can well do without them at these extortionate prices.

I will in future stick to fair value shops, such as Friendship.

Went for the 1st time yesterday..... notice that some Thai stuff was cheaper at Villa than at Big C/Tesco/Carrefour...

On another note looked a NZ Cheddar Cheese [friend buys 2kg when he goes to Pattaya 620 baht at Friendship] Villa same cheese same packing priced 820 baht !!!!!!

  6. I need to locate imported sliced beetroot.

I couldn't find it at Villa several weeks back, and Friendship has run out...was getting the NZ Watties brand there.

Has anyone laid eyes on this anywhere? Foodland, Carrefour, Tops and Big C also don't have it.

    WHY ??

I buy beetroot at Carrefour, there cheap, easy to cook, slice and pickle

  7. I'm looking to buy myself a nice LCD telly sometime over the next couple of months. Just wondering where the best/cheapest place is to get one in Bangkok.

Im looking for 37Inch+ depending on price

Any advice on what to look for and where to go? Also any indication on what is a good price?

    Thanks in Advance!

What will you use the TV for ???

If for TV then be sure to get the sales person to plug in the Ariel on a few different ones... The difference on makes on the TV picture is amazing.. for me 3 months ago Panasonic was far better pictues than any of the others.

Look for/at 'Promotions' don't forget almost all the shops/Department Stores/Supermarkets have web sites..

Bought my Panasonic Plasma in the 'Home Pro' Big Sale [38,000 baht cheaper than the same model at Carrefour]

  9. I am thniking the same , a 37-40 inch LCD television might be a purchase in the next month or so.

I have been looking at the Samsungs as I am very happy with the 19 inch LCD monitors from Samsung I have now. ( was in panthip yesterday and saw that the 22 inch widescreen Samsungs are 10900 baht - was very tempted )

Bought a Laptop at Acer yesterday in Pantip 2, notice the LCD 22" monitor was 8950 baht.. my 19" 19months ago was 12,200 in a sale promotion !!!!

  10. Replace with what ? at the moment it is between the following, but which is the better one ??

Sony Vaio VNG-CR13S or Acer Aspire 4720G-301G16Mi

After a fast look and not looking at the price, definitely buy the Acer because of higher processor, bigger HardDisk and

more USB slots. These are just a few things that met my eyes. I would also start upfront with 2 GB RAM.

    Thanks

Owned my Sony since new...... in 5years never any problems or repair,

friend has an Acer bought 18months ago it has been replaced 1x, repaired 1x and latest the harddrive stopped working and had to be replaced.. For this reason I was trying to work out what is the better Laptop to buy.

  11. Need advise please.........

Replacing the Sony Vaio PCG-FR215H, now over 5yrs old...

Sony Vaio VNG-CR13S or Acer Aspire 4720G-301G16Mi

  12. Anyone notice this one in Thailand ?

    Enermax Infiniti 720W power supply

on the 4 th floor in panthip there is a shop with a large collection of cases and power supplies , there is a range of enermax power supplies.

Thanks, will look in Pantip 2, and see if they have them there next time I pass. Pantip in BKK is to far to drive to.

  13. mine is similar...

    asus p5b premium board.(vista edition)

    q6600 processor

    8800gts vid card

    4 gig kingston ddr2 ram (800mhz)

    asus 550w psu

    audigy 2 sound card

    samsung 22in lcd

    creative z500 speakers

asus light scribe dual layer dvd burner x 2

    asus dvd rom x 1

asus silent square pro cpu cooler.

    total cost 40,000 baht

    quick edit

    also 2 x 500gig WD hd's

all in a gview combat case.

Thanks to all of you. I'm finding this very helpful and have already significantly revised my ideas. The Acer now seems a poor runner in the pack.

v8tfcorty, I am impressed and a little puzzled by your lineup. Judging by the prices I have seen so far at Fortune Town I cannot imagine how you put that package together for 40,000 baht, not if the two HDD's are included. Where and how?

500gig WD HDDs cost 3,950baht each

  14. Have a look at this one at 1/2 the price your looking to pay.......

OK NO monitor but a 19" LCD is 6,700 from them....... noticed at Pantip 2 that the Acer 22" was 8,950 !!!!!!!!

Linux operating systems & Open Office Software preload

No monitor and a free operating system pre-installed ... that pretty much explains the "bargain"

This was talking about paying 54,000 baht for an Acer, the link I posted was for a bigger 2 core system for 25,000 baht without monitor or MS, OS....... A 19" or even 22" LCD monitor + Vista or XP OS license, added you would still have many thousend left over, [most PC shops will install any OS you want for 300 baht the license for Vista is around 6,000 baht]

Myself always build my own have done for years, it is the only way to mix and match what you want in your PC] but there are some people that cannot and so must buy a ready built, the link I found for Aztec PC was just another option to add if anyone wants to.

  15. Where/Who did you purchase from? JSat tv

    Any guarantee? Yes

Is it a one time cost? Yes

Monthly charge/maintenance fee? NO 'Free to View'

Can you get internet access with it? Box is connected to the internet so always have a good picture regardless of weather.

  16. Hi ignis,

......The picture is WOW, crystal clear on Thai TV, Sat TV, and DVD, I cannot tell the difference

is the Sat TV from UBC and whats it like..? is it WOW ...?

    Thanks ...

NO....... why anyone would have UBC is beyond me... I have a move system and receive over 2,600 channels from around the world both 'KU' and 'C' bands, there are 28 sats over Thailand, so why pay for a very small crappy one.

  17. When you buy be sure to ask the seller to plug in the the TV...

I looked at about 10 different both LCD and Plasma 40 - 46".. the plasma had much a better picture.

I bought in the 'Big' Sale at Home Pro.... 46,200 baht the same Panasonic Plasma in both Tesco and Carrefour was 79,900 baht..

Don't forget ALL the big stores have web sites so can easy check the prices and what is on promotion.

The picture is WOW, crystal clear on Thai TV, Sat TV, and DVD, I cannot tell the difference

  18. Most Shopping 'Malls' have both 'Export' and XL shops.... if you have a friend + transport there are a few factory Outlet Stores with all sizes. Some markets have large sizes you have no need to ask because if they have your size they will call out as you pass

Myself 1.9 tall, and wear 4XL shirts/T-shirts, also no problem for shorts or trousers up to 60" !! all trousers need to be turned up [loads of places on the road side while you wait about 30 baht]

Remember you will need long trousers when you visit the Temples...

Big feet are a little more of a problem, very few have over 44/45 size, not a lot of good when ones wears 48..

Word of warning... the Thai XL size is a lot smaller than the XL size in Export or XL shops.

    T-shirts in 4XL cost around 180 - 220 baht

    Trousers size 48 cost around 245 - 365 baht

Shorts size 48 cost around the same..

At this moment is is much colder here, but then I have lived here a few years, my shorts have been put away until next year as I find it far to cold to wear shorts now [live 50km north west of Bangkok]
